The anode/electrolyte interface behavior, and by extension, the overall cell performance of sodium-ion batteries is determined by a complex interaction of processes that occur at all components of the electrochemical cell across a wide range of size- and timescales. Single-scale studies may provide incomplete insights, as they cannot capture the full picture of this complex and intertwined behavior. Broad, multiscale studies are essential to elucidate these processes. Within this perspectives article, several analytical and theoretical techniques are introduced, and described how they can be combined to provide a more complete and comprehensive understanding of sodium-ion battery (SIB) performance throughout its lifetime, with a special focus on the interfaces of hard carbon anodes. These methods target various length- and time scales, ranging from micro to nano, from cell level to atomistic structures, and account for a broad spectrum of physical and (electro)chemical characteristics. Specifically, how mass spectrometric, microscopic, spectroscopic, electrochemical, thermodynamic, and physical methods can be employed to obtain the various types of information required to understand battery behavior will be explored. Ways are then discussed how these methods can be coupled together in order to elucidate the multiscale phenomena at the anode interface and develop a holistic understanding of their relationship to overall sodium-ion battery function.  相似文献

Enzyme discovery in individual strains of microorganisms is compromised by the limitations of pure culturing. In principle, metaproteomics allows for fractionation and study of different parts of the protein complement but has hitherto mainly been used to identify intracellular proteins. However, the extracellular environment is also expected to comprise a wealth of information regarding important proteins. An absolute requirement for metaproteomic studies of protein expression, and irrespective of downstream methods for analysis, is that sample preparation methods provide clean, concentrated and representative samples of the protein complement. A battery of methods for concentration, extraction, precipitation and resolubilization of proteins in the extracellular environment of a constructed microbial community was assessed by means of 2D gel electrophoresis and image analysis to elucidate whether it is possible to make the extracellular protein complement available for metaproteomic analysis. Most methods failed to provide pure samples and therefore negatively influenced protein gel migration and gel background clarity. However, one direct precipitation method (TCA-DOC/acetone) and one extraction/precipitation method (phenol/methanol) provided complementary high quality 2D gels that allowed for high spot detection ability and thereby also spot detection of less abundant extracellular proteins.  相似文献

The ability of cells to attach to each other and to the extracellular matrix is of pivotal significance for the formation of functional organs and for the distribution of cells in the body. Several molecular families of proteins are involved in adhesion, and recent work has substantially improved our understanding of their structures and functions. Also, these molecules are now being targeted in the fight against disease. However, less is known about how their activity is regulated. It is apparent that among the different classes of adhesion molecules, the integrin family of adhesion receptors is unique in the sense that they constitute a large group of widely distributed receptors, they are unusually complex and most importantly their activities are strictly regulated from the inside of the cell. The activity regulation is achieved by a complex interplay of cytoskeletal proteins, protein kinases, phosphatases, small G proteins and adaptor proteins. Obviously, we are only in the beginning of our understanding of how the integrins function, but already now fascinating details have become apparent. Here, we describe recent progress in the field, concentrating mainly on mechanistical and structural studies of integrin regulation. Due to the large number of articles dealing with integrins, we focus on what we think are the most exciting and rewarding directions of contemporary research on cell adhesion and integrins.  相似文献

Background  

Automated surveillance of the Internet provides a timely and sensitive method for alerting on global emerging infectious disease threats. HealthMap is part of a new generation of online systems designed to monitor and visualize, on a real-time basis, disease outbreak alerts as reported by online news media and public health sources. HealthMap is of specific interest for national and international public health organizations and international travelers. A particular task that makes such a surveillance useful is the automated discovery of the geographic references contained in the retrieved outbreak alerts. This task is sometimes referred to as "geo-parsing". A typical approach to geo-parsing would demand an expensive training corpus of alerts manually tagged by a human.  相似文献

1. While it is clear that land‐use change significantly impacts the taxonomic dimension of soil biodiversity, how the functional dimension responds to land‐use change is less well understood. 2. This study examined how the transformation of primary forests into rubber tree monocultures impacts individual termite species and how this change is reflected in termite taxonomic and functional α‐diversity (within site) and β‐diversity (among sites). 3. Overall, individual species responded strongly to land‐use change, whereby only 11 of the 27 species found were able to tolerate both habitats. These differences caused a 27% reduction in termite taxonomic richness and reduced taxonomic β‐diversity in rubber plantations compared with primary forests. The study also revealed that the forest conversion led to a shift in some termite species with smaller body size, shorter legs and smaller mandibular traits. Primary forests exhibited higher functional richness and functional β‐diversity of termite species, indicating that functional traits of termite species in rubber plantations are more evenly distributed. 4. The present study suggests that forest conversion does not merely decrease taxonomic diversity of termites, but also exerts functional trait filtering within some termite species. The results affirm the need for biodiversity assessments that combine taxonomic and functional indicators when monitoring the impact of land‐use change.  相似文献

The fine needle aspiration cytomorphology and the number of lymphohistiocytic aggregates were correlated with five categories of benign lymph node histologies. Of 187 patients who had benign lymph node aspiration diagnoses made from 1975 to 1982 at the Medical College of Virginia, 26 had a subsequent lymph node biopsy. Excluded from the study were four cases with the biopsy site different from the aspiration site, three cases with evidence of metastatic carcinoma and one case of fistula at the site of biopsy. Of the remaining 18 cases, 13 (72%) had lymphohistiocytic aggregates on the aspiration slides. The mean number of lymphohistiocytic aggregates on the aspiration slides was greater in cases with histologic evidence of follicular hyperplasia (6.1) than in those with some other predominating benign histology (1.6).  相似文献
