Chemical oceanographic understanding of the southernBlack Sea has been improved by recent measurements ofthe optical transparency, phytoplankton biomass (interms of chlorophyll-a and particulate organic matter)and primary productivity. During the spring-autmunperiod of 1995–1996, light generally penetrated onlyinto the upper 15–40 m, with an attenuation coefficientvarying between 0.125 and 0.350 m2122;1. The averagechlorophyll-a (Chl-a) concentrations for the euphoticzone ranged from 0.1 to 1.5 μg l2122;1. Coherentsub-surface Chl-a maxima were formed near the base ofthe euphotic zone only in summer. Production rate variedbetween 247 and 1925 in the spring and between 405 and687 mgC m2122;2 d2122;1 in the summer-autumn period.The average POM concentrations in the euphotic zonevaried regionally and seasonally between 3.8 and28.6 μm for POC, 0.5 and 3.1 μm for PON and0.02 and 0.1 μm for PP. Atomic ratios of C/N, C/Pand N/P, derived from the regressions of POM data,ranged between 7.5 and 9.6, 109 and 165, and 11.2 and16.6, respectively. In the suboxic/anoxic interface,the elemental ratios change substantially due to anaccumulation of PP cohering to Fe and Mn oxides. Thechemocline boundaries and the distinct chemicalfeatures of the oxic/anoxic transition layer (the so-called suboxic zone) are all located at specificdensity surfaces; however, they exhibit remarkablespatial and temporal variations both in their positionand in their magnitude, which permit the definition of long-term changes in the biochemical properties of theBlack Sea upper layer. Glutamate/Aspartate transporters cotransport three Na+ and one H+ ions with the substrate and countertransport one K+ ion. The binding sites for the substrate and two Na+ ions have been observed in the crystal structure of the archeal homolog GltPh, while the binding site for the third Na+ ion has been proposed from computational studies and confirmed by experiments. Here we perform detailed free energy simulations of GltPh, giving a comprehensive characterization of the substrate and ion binding sites, and calculating their binding free energies in various configurations. Our results show unequivocally that the substrate binds after the binding of two Na+ ions. They also shed light into Asp/Glu selectivity of GltPh, which is not observed in eukaryotic glutamate transporters.  相似文献

Melastatin-like transient receptor potential 2 (TRPM2) channel activation/inhibition mechanisms in response to ADP-ribose (ADPR), oxidative stress, flufenamic acid (FFA) and 2-aminoethoxydiphenyl borate (2-APB) are not clear. We tested the effects of FFA and 2-APB on ADPR-induced TRPM2 cation channel currents in rat native bone marrow megakaryocytes. Megakaryocyte cells were freshly isolated from rat bone marrow and studied with the conventional whole-cell patch-clamp technique. Extracellular H2O2, FFA and 2-APB were added through the patch chamber, while intracellular ADPR was applied through the pipette. Nonselective cation currents were consistently induced by ADPR but not H2O2. Current density of ADPR in the cells was significantly (P < 0.001) higher than in control. The time courses of ADPR effects in the megakaryocytes were characterized by a delay of 2.24 ± 0.73. The ADPR-induced Ca2+ gate was not blocked by either the IP3 receptor inhibitor 2-APB or the PLC inhibitor FFA. In conclusion, TRPM2 channels were constitutively activated by intracellular ADPR, although the channel currents in rat native megakaryocytes were not affected by extracellular H2O2, 2-APB or FFA. Activation of TRPM2 channels in megakaryocytes seems to be intracellular and ADPR-dependent.  相似文献

In the “Eastern Pontides” (NE Turkey), the intense volcanic activity accompanying carbonate-siliceous sedimentation during the Late Cretaceous period ensured the occurrence of thick volcano-sedimentary sequences. Seventy-one radiolarian species belonging to 26 genera were identified from five stratigraphic sections of the Upper Cretaceous sequences between Trabzon and Giresun areas in NE Turkey. These species were obtained from the lower Turonian–lower Coniacian strata of the Çe?meler Formation, the Coniacian–lower Santonian strata of the Elmal? Dere Formation and the upper Santonian strata of the Ça?layan Formation. Coniacian–Campanian fauna, consisting of planktonic foraminifera Hedbergella, Marginotruncana, Globotruncana, Whiteinella and biserial heterohelicids as well as radiolarians, was recovered from the red pelagic limestones of the Elmal? Dere Formation known as marker horizon.  相似文献

Two new species of torymids, Pseudotorymus hasanberkayi sp. n. and Microdontomerus kahramanmarasensis sp. n. (Hymenoptera: Torymidae), were reared from flower heads of Echinops orientalis Trautvetter (Asteraceae) collected in Kahramanmara? province, south-eastern Turkey. The new species are described and their diagnostic characters are illustrated.

Aim

The aim of this study was to examine the effects of cholecalciferol on systemic inflammation and memory in the setting of fatty liver disease in rats.

Materials and methods

To induce the development of fatty liver disease, the rats were fed a 35% fructose solution over 8 weeks. Group I (n = 6) was designated as the control group and fed with standard rat chow. Group II (n = 6) was provided with, standard rat chow, and 0.3 μg/kg/day of oral cholecalciferol over a duration of 2 weeks. In addition to standard rat chow, group III (n = 6) and group IV (n = 6) were given 4 mL of the 35% fructose solution per day via oral gavage for 8 weeks. However, group IV was also given 0.3 μg/kg/day of oral cholecalciferol over 2 weeks. After the treatment period, passive avoidance tasks were performed by all groups. The liver and brain were harvested for subsequent biochemical and histopathologic analyses.

Key findings

The development of fatty liver extends the memory latency period of passively avoiding tasks after 1 trial. Moreover, there were increases in brain TNF-α and plasma MDA levels according to two-way analysis of variance. Cholecalciferol supplementation decreased the latency period of passively avoiding tasks in rats with hepatosteatosis, and also significantly reduced brain TNF-α and plasma MDA levels.

Significance

Fatty liver may contribute to the development of systemic inflammation, which affects cognition and causes deficits in memory; however, the anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties of vitamin D may improve the cognitive function of rats with hepatosteatosis.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess the effects of cold-restraint stress on blood and the other tissue levels of trace elements. The experiment was performed on male Swiss albino rats. The animals were divided to two groups: control and stressed groups. In the stressed group, the rats were subjected to immobilization for 4 h at 4°C. At the end of the experimental period, blood and tissue samples were collected from all of the animals. The levels of zinc, copper, magnesium, and manganese were measured using flame and graphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry. In rats subjected to stress, the zinc levels of serum were increased, whereas in the duodenum and brain, zinc was found to decrease when compared to the control. The magnesium content of both the stomach and duodenum were reduced, but the manganese levels of the liver, kidneys, and brain significantly increased because of stress. In conclusion, cold-restraint stress may affect the metabolic process by changing the distributions of zinc, magnesium, and manganese in tissues.  相似文献

The platelet-activating factor (PAF) is an inflammatory mediator and it may exert some of its effects by reactive oxygen species (ROS). We investigated the effects of PAF and hyperbaric oxygenation (HBO) on copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn) levels in plasma and the intracellular antioxidant enzyme activities of rats. PAF administration caused a decrease in erythrocyte catalase (CAT) and glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activities and in the plasma zinc level. Following PAF administration, exposure to HBO also caused a decrease in erythrocyte GPx activity. These results support the hypothesis that PAF may produce free oxygen radicals and HBO enhances this effect. The enzyme activities of the antioxidant defense system were found to be affected by these oxidative processes. This is likely to be the result of excessive production of ROS or overutilization and/or inhibition of the antioxidant enzymes.  相似文献
