Oxytocin (OT) has been shown to play an important role in social bonding in animals. However, it is unclear whether OT is related to inter-species social bonding. In this study, to examine the possibility that urinary OT concentrations of owners were increased by their “dog's gaze”, perhaps representing social attachment to their owners, we measured urinary OT concentrations of owners before and after interaction with their dogs. Dog owners interacted with their dogs as usual for 30 min (interaction experiment) or were instructed not to look at their dogs directly (control experiment). We observed the behaviors of owners and their dogs during the experiments, and measured OT concentrations by radioimmunoassay in urine samples from the owners collected just before and 20 min after interaction with their dogs. Using a cluster analysis, owners could be divided into two groups: one received a longer duration of gaze from their dogs and reported a higher degree of relationship with their dogs (LG); the other received a shorter duration of gaze and reported a lower degree of relationship (SG). Urinary OT was higher in LG than SG after usual interaction with their dogs, but not in the control experiment. In the interaction experiment, a high correlation was found in LG between the frequency of behavioral exchanges initiated by the dog's gaze and the increase in urinary OT. We conclude that interactions with dogs, especially those initiated by the dog's gaze, can increase the urinary OT concentrations of their owners as a manifestation of attachment behavior. 相似文献
Sixty-nine sequences containing microsatellites were determinedby analysis of clones from a pUC118 library of total genomicmouse DNA. These sequences were examined for size variationusing polymerase chain reaction and gel electrophoresis. Fifty-oneof them showed allelic variations between C57BL/6 and MSM, thetwo strains used for genetic mapping. Hence, their chromosomallocation was determined using a panel consisting of 131 backcrossmice that had been typed with 85 anchor loci. The microsatelliteswere distributed to most chromosomes except for chromosomes16 and 19. These novel markers with defined locations are usefulin linkage and genome mapping studies. 相似文献
DNA methylation is a well-characterized epigenetic modification involved in gene regulation and transposon silencing in mammals. It mainly occurs on cytosines at CpG sites but methylation at non-CpG sites is frequently observed in embryonic stem cells, induced pluriotent stem cells, oocytes and the brain. The biological significance of non-CpG methylation is unknown. Here, we show that non-CpG methylation is also present in male germ cells, within and around B1 retrotransposon sequences interspersed in the mouse genome. It accumulates in mitotically arrested fetal prospermatogonia and reaches the highest level by birth in a Dnmt3l-dependent manner. The preferential site of non-CpG methylation is CpA, especially CpApG and CpApC. Although CpApG (and CpTpG) sites contain cytosines at symmetrical positions, hairpin-bisulfite sequencing reveals that they are hemimethylated, suggesting the absence of a template-dependent copying mechanism. Indeed, the level of non-CpG methylation decreases after the resumption of mitosis in the neonatal period, whereas that of CpG methylation does not. The cells eventually lose non-CpG methylation by the time they become spermatogonia. Our results show that non-CpG methylation accumulates in non-replicating, arrested cells but is not maintained in mitotically dividing cells during male germ-cell development. 相似文献
Oil-rich algae have promising potential for a next-generation biofuel feedstock. Pseudochoricystis ellipsoidea MBIC 11204, a novel unicellular green algal strain, accumulates a large amount of oil (lipids) in nitrogen-deficient (–N) conditions. Although the oil bodies are easily visualized by lipophilic staining in the cells, little is known about how oil bodies are metabolically synthesized. Clarifying the metabolic profiles in –N conditions is important to understand the physiological mechanisms of lipid accumulations and will be useful to optimize culture conditions efficiently produce industrial oil. Metabolome and lipidome profiles were obtained, respectively, using capillary electrophoresis- and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry from P. ellipsoidea in both nitrogen-rich (+N; rapid growth) and –N conditions. Relative quantities of more than 300 metabolites were systematically compared between these two conditions. Amino acids in nitrogen assimilation and N-transporting metabolisms were decreased to 1/20 the amount, or less, in –N conditions. In lipid metabolism, the quantities of neutral lipids increased greatly in –N conditions; however, quantities of nearly all the other lipids either decreased or only changed slightly. The morphological changes in +N and –N conditions were also provided by microscopy, and we discuss their relationship to the metabolic changes. This is the first approach to understand the novel algal strain’s metabolism using a combination of wide-scale metabolome analysis and morphological analysis.
ABSTRACT Chemical screening of culture medium from the soil fungus Stachybotrys sp. resulted in the isolation of the three new phenylspirodrimanes MBJ-0030 (1), MBJ-0031 (2) and MBJ-0032 (3). Their structures were determined by detailed analysis of spectroscopic data. The absolute configurations of 1–3 were determined by modified Mosher’s and Marfey’s methods. The distribution patterns of two genetically divergent forms (Japan Sea and Pacific Ocean forms) of Gasterosteus aculeatus and their hybrids in the Hokkaido Island, Japan were investigated. Hybrid frequencies and the mating pattern of natural F1-hybrids
and backcrosses, were examined by using allozyme analysis. The distribution patterns matched those previously reported. All
three sympatric localities in eastern Hokkaido Island included hybrids between the two forms in each year examined. A low
frequency of hybrids of sticklebacks has been maintained in areas of sympatry of the two forms in Hokkaido Island for several
years. The proportion of F1-hybrids was significantly lower than expected by random mating in six samples from four sympatric
populations, suggesting form-assortative mating. Mating crosses of natural F1-hybrids existed in both patterns. Natural F1-hybrids
backcrossed more frequently with Pacific Ocean form than Japan Sea form. However, the proportions of backcross individuals
in two of three samples were not significantly different from the expected proportions by random mating between F1-hybrids
and their parent forms. In other samples, despite the Pacific Ocean form predominant in a population, F1-hybrid predominantly
backcrossed with the Japan Sea form. These results support the hypothesis of gene flow from Pacific Ocean to Japan Sea forms. 相似文献
