Zusammenfassung Auf einer Baumwollpflanzung in Ober?gypten wurde die Individuenabundanz von folgenden Entomophagen von Juni bis September ermittelt: Imagines vonCoccinella undecim-punctata (Col., Coccinellidae); Scymnus interruptus (Col., Coccinellidae); Paederus alfierii (Col. Staphylinidae) und Larven vonChrysopa carnea (Neur., Chrysopidae). Die Werte wurden 2mal w?chentlich durch morgendliches Abz?hlen der sichtbaren Tiere an je 50 Pflanzen auf 40 unbehandelten Parzellen gewonnen. Die gefundenen Zahlen zeigen, umgerechnet auf 1 Feddan =0,42 ha, eine unterschiedliche H?he für die einzelnen Arten und im Laufe der Beobachtungszeit. Trotz erheblicher Tagesschwankungen von Lufttemperatur und rel. Luftfeuchtigkeit liess sich bei stündlicher Abz?hlung (4.-8. VI) keine Beziehung zwischen Witterungsdaten und Abundanz der kontrollierten Entomophagen feststellen.   相似文献

Monitoring development indicators has become a central interest of international agencies and countries for tracking progress towards the Millennium Development Goals. In this review, which also provides an introduction to a collection of articles, we describe the methodology used by the United Nations Inter-agency Group for Child Mortality Estimation to track country-specific changes in the key indicator for Millennium Development Goal 4 (MDG 4), the decline of the under-five mortality rate (the probability of dying between birth and age five, also denoted in the literature as U5MR and 5 q 0). We review how relevant data from civil registration, sample registration, population censuses, and household surveys are compiled and assessed for United Nations member states, and how time series regression models are fitted to all points of acceptable quality to establish the trends in U5MR from which infant and neonatal mortality rates are generally derived. The application of this methodology indicates that, between 1990 and 2010, the global U5MR fell from 88 to 57 deaths per 1,000 live births, and the annual number of under-five deaths fell from 12.0 to 7.6 million. Although the annual rate of reduction in the U5MR accelerated from 1.9% for the period 1990–2000 to 2.5% for the period 2000–2010, it remains well below the 4.4% annual rate of reduction required to achieve the MDG 4 goal of a two-thirds reduction in U5MR from its 1990 value by 2015. Thus, despite progress in reducing child mortality worldwide, and an encouraging increase in the pace of decline over the last two decades, MDG 4 will not be met without greatly increasing efforts to reduce child deaths.  相似文献

AimsThis cross-sectional study compared and contrasted the morphological characteristics of Class I, II and III malocclusions in an adolescent Saudi population.MethodsAdolescent Saudis with Angle’s Class I, II and III malocclusions were selected from orthodontic patients’ records. Angular and linear measurements were compared between the three groups. Cephalometric analysis was performed using the VistadentOC® software. Multifactorial ANOVA for angular and linear measurements between and within groups.ResultsOrthodontic records of 300 patients were included. There was no significant difference between and within groups in age and distribution of Angle’s classification, p > 0.05. Multifactorial ANOVA showed that there were significant interactions between gender and malocclusions in skeletal, dental and soft tissue measurements, p < 0.05. There were significant differences in the sagittal and vertical skeletal measurements between groups, p < 0.05. The dental measurements were also significantly different in most of the measurements (p < 0.05). Moreover, there were significantly different readings among the groups in the soft tissue analysis.ConclusionMorphological characteristics of adolescent Saudis show unique differences between gender and malocclusions, more so in Class III malocclusions. Class II and III malocclusions also show skeletal differences amongst the groups.  相似文献

Recently, it has been demonstrated that dysbiosis, an alteration in commensal microflora composition, is intimately involved in the onset of a variety of diseases. It is becoming increasingly evident that the composition of commensal microflora in the oral cavity is closely connected to oral diseases, such as periodontal disease, and systemic diseases, such as inflammatory bowel disease. Next-generation sequencing techniques are used as a method to examine changes in bacterial flora, but additional analytical methods to assess bacterial flora are needed to understand bacterial activity in more detail. In addition, the oral environment is unique because of the role of secretory antibodies contained in saliva in the formation of bacterial flora. The present study aimed to develop a new method for evaluating the compositional change of microbiota using flow cytometry (FCM) with specific antibodies against the bacterial surface antigen, as well as salivary antibodies. Using specific antibodies against Streptococcus mutans, a causative agent of dental caries, and human IgA, bacterial samples from human saliva were analyzed via FCM. The results showed that different profiles could be obtained depending on the oral hygiene status of the subjects. These results suggest that changes in the amount and type of antibodies that bind to oral bacteria may be an indicator for evaluating abnormalities in the oral flora. Therefore, the protocol established in this report could be applied as an evaluation method for alterations in the oral microbiota.  相似文献

Inorganic phosphate (Pi) and nitrogen (N) are essential nutrients for plant growth. We found that a five-fold oversupply of nitrate rescues Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) plants from Pi-starvation stress. Analyses of transgenic plants that overexpressed GFP-AUTOPHAGY8 showed that an oversupply of nitrate induced autophagy flux under Pi-depleted conditions. Expression of DIN6 and DIN10, the carbon (C) starvation-responsive genes, was upregulated when nitrate was oversupplied under Pi starvation, which suggested that the plants recognized the oversupply of nitrate as C starvation stress because of the reduction in the C/N ratio. Indeed, formation of Rubisco-containing bodies (RCBs), which contain chloroplast stroma and are induced by C starvation, was enhanced when nitrate was oversupplied under Pi starvation. Moreover, autophagy-deficient mutants did not release Pi (unlike wild-type plants), exhibited no RCB accumulation inside vacuoles, and were hypersensitive to Pi starvation, indicating that RCB-mediated chlorophagy is involved in Pi starvation tolerance. Thus, our results showed that the Arabidopsis response to Pi starvation is closely linked with N and C availability and that autophagy is a key factor that controls plant growth under Pi starvation.

As an immune evasion and survival strategy, the Plasmodium falciparum malaria parasite has evolved a protein named VAR2CSA. This protein mediates sequestration of infected red blood cells in the placenta through the interaction with a unique carbohydrate abundantly and exclusively present in the placenta. Cancer cells were found to share the same expression of this distinct carbohydrate, termed oncofetal chondroitin sulfate on their surface. In this study we have used a protein conjugation system to produce a bispecific immune engager, V-aCD3, based on recombinant VAR2CSA as the cancer targeting moiety and an anti-CD3 single-chain variable fragment linked to a single-chain Fc as the immune engager. Conjugation of these two proteins resulted in a single functional moiety that induced immune mediated killing of a broad range of cancer cells in vitro and facilitated tumor arrest in an orthotopic bladder cancer xenograft model.Subject terms: Drug development, Preclinical research  相似文献

Streptococcus mutans is the main pathogen of dental caries and adheres to the tooth surface via soluble and insoluble glucans produced by the bacterial glucosyltransferase enzyme. Thus, the S. mutans glucosyltransferase is an important virulence factor for this cariogenic bacterium. Sulfated vizantin effectively inhibits biofilm formation by S. mutans without affecting its growth. In this study, less S. mutans biofilm formation occurred on hydroxyapatite discs coated with sulfated vizantin than on noncoated discs. Sulfated vizantin showed no cytotoxicity against the human gingival cell line Ca9-22. Sulfated vizantin dose-dependently inhibited the extracellular release of cell-free glucosyltransferase from S. mutans and enhanced the accumulation of cell-associated glucosyltransferase, compared with that observed with untreated bacteria. Sulfated vizantin disrupted the localization balance between cell-associated glucosyltransferase and cell-free glucosyltransferase, resulting in inhibited biofilm maturation. These results indicate that sulfated vizantin can potentially serve as a novel agent for preventing dental caries.  相似文献
