Specimens of Aegla castro Schmitt, 1942 were monthly sampled from June 2012 to May 2013 from Couro stream (23°57′15″S 51°06′00″W), located in the Upper Paraná river region, southern Brazil. Population structure, morphometric and functional maturity were analyzed. Allometric growth analysis on chela dimension versus carapace length (CL) was employed to recognize juveniles and adult individuals. Two sequential groups of adult males (morphotypes I and II) were recognized according to the state of development of the pair of claws. The CL where 50% of the population of individuals are adults (CL50) was used to estimate the size at the onset of morphometric maturity. Males attain morphometric maturity at same size class of females (8.0–9.0 mm CL). Males and females are heterochelous and they often show the left chela more developed. The reproductive period was extended from June to September 2012 and April to May 2013 (six months) with record of 22 ovigerous females. The recruitment occurred in the months following the reproductive period, with higher records in October and December 2012. All the information gathered here should be useful to better understand the biology of the species studied. 相似文献

Lowland tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia are characterized by high species diversity despite limited soil nutrient conditions. The plant nitrogen isotope ratio (δ15N) reflects plant uptake of soil nitrogen. We analyzed δ15N values and nitrogen content (N %) in leaves and roots of 108 woody species with different types of symbiotic microorganisms, of different life forms (emergent, canopy, sub-canopy, understory, and canopy gap species), and from different families in a Bornean lowland dipterocarp forest to gain more insight into the diversity of nitrogen uptake strategy in the rhizosphere. Leaf δ15N values in the species studied varied largely from ?7.2 to 5.0 ‰, which is comparable to the values of known Asian trees including temperate, sub-tropical, and tropical mountain forests. Leaf δ15N also varied significantly among both life forms and families, though the phylogenetically independent contrast (PIC) relationships were not statistically significant among life form, family, and symbiotic types. Some families showed specific leaf δ15N values; Dipterocarpaceae, the dominant family in the canopy layer with symbiotic ectomycorrhiza in Southeast Asia, had small intraspecific variation and higher leaf δ15N values (0.03 ‰) compared with species exhibiting arbuscular mycorrhiza, whereas several families such as Burseraceae, Euphorbiaceae, and Myrtaceae showed large interspecific variation in leaf δ15N (e.g., from ?7.2 to 5.0 ‰ in Euphorbiaceae). These variations suggest that tropical species may have family- or species-specific strategy, such as root symbiotic microorganisms, for nitrogen uptake under low-nutrient conditions in tropical rainforests in Southeast Asia.134.

Docetaxel (DTX) is widely used for treatment of inveterate lung and prostate cancers, but its continuous administration elicits the hyposensitivity. Here, we established the DTX-resistant variants of human lung cancer A549 and androgen-independent prostate cancer Du145 cells and found that the resistance development provoked aberrant up-regulations of aldo-keto reductase (AKR) 1B10 and AKR1C3 in A549 and Du145 cells, respectively. In addition, the sensitivity to the DTX toxicity was significantly decreased and increased by overexpression and knockdown of the two AKR isoforms, respectively. Furthermore, the resistant cells exhibited a decreased level of reactive 4-hydroxy-2-nonenal formed during DTX treatment, and the decrease was alleviated by adding the AKR inhibitors, inferring that the two AKRs confer the chemoresistance through elevating the antioxidant properties. The development of DTX resistance was also associated with enhanced expression of an ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter ABCB1 among the ABC transporter isoforms. The combined treatment with inhibitors of the two AKRs and ABCB1 additively sensitized the resistant cells to DTX. Intriguingly, the AKR1B10 inhibitor also suppressed the lung cancer cross-resistance against cisplatin. The results suggest that combined treatment with AKRs (1B10 and 1C3) and ABCB1 inhibitors exerts overcoming effect against the cancer resistance to DTX and cisplatin, and can be used as the adjuvant therapy. 相似文献

The d-mannan of Saccharomyces cerevisiae X2180-1A-5 mutant strain, which possesses a main chain composed of α-(1→6) linked d-mannopyranosyl residues and a small proportion of branches composed of α-(1→2)- and α-(1→3)-linked d-mannopyranosyl residues, showed strong growth-inhibitory activity against mouse-implanted Sarcoma 180 and Ehrlich-carcinoma solid tumor. The observation that the level of this activity was nearly identical with that of the d-mannan of a wild-type strain of bakers' yeast, which possesses a high proportion of branches composed of α-(1→2)- and α-(1→3)-linked d-mannopyranosyl residues, suggests that the branches are not essential for antitumor activity. The partial acid-degradation products of both d-mannans, the molecular weight of which was one-third of that of each parent d-mannan, had only one half of the antitumor activity of the parent d-mannans. This suggests that molecular size is the most important factor for the differences in activity of the polysaccharides of wild and mutant strains. 相似文献

Abstract: PEA-15 has recently been identified as a major phosphoprotein in astrocytes and an endogenous substrate for protein kinase C. This 15-kDa protein exists under three molecular forms, an unphosphorylated form, N, and two phosphorylated forms, Pa and Pb. ntisera were raised against synthetic peptides corresponding to the internal sequences of the mouse protein containing the two specific phosphorylation sites and affinity-purified antibodies were used for immunoblotting. PEA-15 was found mainly in the cytosol, but its protein kinase C-phosphorylated form, Pb, was also detectable in association with the membrane and remained with the fraction that contains stabilized microtubules. Abundant in astrocytes, particularly in the hippocampus, PEA-15 was also detected in all cultured brain cell types examined, indicating a more ubiquitous distribution of the protein, further demonstrated by its detection in the eye and in the lung. Parallel to the increase in expression levels, phosphorylation of PEA-15 also increased during development. This paralleled results obtained in primary cultures, where PEA-15 levels increase with cell maturation. Finally, physiological importance of PEA-15 phosphorylation was illustrated by immunoreactivity observed in brain homogenates of different mammals, birds, amphibians, and fish. 相似文献
