Three strains of mice were given, per os and ad libitum, a spa water containing 6.8 mg/l arsenic and indicated for the treatment of allergic respiratory diseases or chronic bronchitis. The daily arsenic intake was approximately from 1.5 to 4 mg/kg. No effect on body weight gain or on the various immune parameters assessed was observed. These results demonstrate that this spa water, despite its high arsenic content, is not toxic and does not interfere with the immune system of healthy mice.  相似文献

The time-course of heart rate, blood lactate, and ventilatory gas exchange was studied during an incremental exercise test on cycloergometer in order to ascertain whether heart rate deflection occurred at the same load as the second lactate S[La]2) and ventilatory (SV2) thresholds. Twelve moderately trained subjects, 22 to 30 years old, participated in the study. The initial power setting was 30 W for 3 min with successive increases of 30 W every min except at the end of the test where the increase was reduced to 20 and 10 W.min-1. Ventilatory flow (VE), oxygen uptake (VO2), carbon dioxide production (VCO2, ventilatory equivalents of O2 (EO2 = VE/VO2) and CO2 (ECO2 = VE/VCO2), and heart rate (HR) were determined during the last 20 s of every min. Venous blood samples were drawn at the end of each stage of effort and analyzed enzymatically for lactate concentration ([La]). The HR deflection, S[La]2, and SV2 were represented graphically by two investigators using a double blind procedure. Following the method proposed by Conconi et al. 1982, the deflection in HR was considered to begin at the point beyond which the increase in work intensity exceeded the increase in HR and the linearity of the work rate/HR relationship was lost. S[La]2 corresponded to the second breaking point of the lactate time-course curve (onset of blood lactate accumulation) and SV2 was identified at the second breaking point in the increase in VE and ventilatory equivalent for O2 uptake accompanied by a concomitant increase in ventilatory equivalent for CO2 output. We observed that the deflection point in HR was present only in 7 subjects. The work load, VO2, HR, and [La] levels at which heart rate departed from linearity did not differ significantly from those determined with S[La]2 ans SV2. The VO2 and HR values at HR deflection point were significantly correlated with those measured at S[La]2 and SV2. It is concluded that deflection in heart rate does not always occur, and when it does, it coincides with the second lactate and ventilatory gas exchange thresholds. It can thus be used for the determination of optimal intensity for individualized aerobic training.  相似文献

Congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) is an important cause of sterility in men. Although the genetic basis of this condition is still unclear, it has been shown recently that some of these patients carry mutations in their cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) genes. To extend this observation, we have analyzed the entire coding sequence of the CFTR gene in a cohort of 67 men with CBAVD, who are otherwise healthy. We have identified four novel missense mutations (A800G, G149R, R258G, and E193K). We have shown that 42% of subjects were carriers of one CFTR allele and that 24% are compound heterozygous for CFTR alleles. Thus, we have been unable to identify 76% of these patients as carrying two CFTR mutations. Furthermore, we have described the segregation of CFTR haplotypes in the family of one CBAVD male; in this family are two male siblings, with identical CFTR loci but displaying different phenotypes, one of them being fertile and the other sterile. The data presented in this family, indicating a discordance between the CBAVD phenotype and a marked carrier (delta F508) chromosome, support the involvement of another gene(s), in the etiology of CBAVD.  相似文献

An easy technique, consisting in injecting air into the liquid stream, is proposed to enhance the permeate flux in crossflow filtration of a model fluid (i.e a bentonite suspension). The injected air promotes turbulence and increases the superficial crossflow velocity that leads to a regular disturbance of the boundary layer. A systematic study of different two-phase configurations points up that the slug flow seems the most appropriate regime. The resulting permeate rate is increased up to 140%, in comparison with the usual filtration processes.  相似文献

DNA sequence comparisons of two mitochondrial DNA genes were used to infer phylogenetic relationships among 17 Felidae species, notably 15 in the previously described pantherine lineage. The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was used to generate sequences of 358 base pairs of the mitochondrial 12S RNA gene and 289 base pairs of the cytochrome b protein coding gene. DNA sequences were compared within and between 17 felid and five nonfelid carnivore species. Evolutionary trees were constructed using phenetic, cladistic, and maximum likelihood algorithms. The combined results suggested several phylogenetic relationships including (1) the recognition of a recently evolved monophyletic genus Panthera consisting of Panthera leo, P. pardus, P. onca, P. uncia, P. tigris, and Neofelis nebulosa; (2) the recent common ancestry of Acinonyx jubatus, the African cheetah, and Puma concolor, the American puma; and (3) two golden cat species, Profelis temmincki and Profelis aurata, are not sister species, and the latter is strongly associated with Caracal caracal. These data add to the growing database of vertebrate mtDNA sequences and, given the relatively recent divergence among the felids represented here (1-10 Myr), allow 12S and cytochrome b sequence evolution to be addressed over a time scale different from those addressed in most work on vertebrate mtDNA.   相似文献
