Boric acid is widely used as an insecticide, acaricide, herbicide, and fungicide and also during various industrial processings. Hence, numerous populations are subjects to this toxic compound. Its action on animals is still not fully known and understood. We examined the effect of boric acid on larvae of greater wax moth (Galleria mellonella). The chemical appeared to be toxic for larvae, usually in a concentration-dependent manner. Exposed groups revealed increased lipid peroxidation and altered activity of catalase, superoxide dismutase, glutathione S-transferase, and glutathione peroxidase. We also observed changes of ultrastructure, which were in tune with biochemical assays. We suggest that boric acid has a broad mode of action, which may affect exposed larvae, and even if sublethal, they may lead to disturbances within exposed populations.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to formulate and characterize Eudragit® L100 and Eudragit® L100-poly(lactic-co-glycolic acid) (PLGA) nanoparticles containing diclofenac sodium. Diclofenac generates severe adverse effects with risks of toxicity. Thus, nanoparticles were prepared to reduce these drawbacks in the present study. These nanoparticles were evaluated for surface morphology, particle size and size distribution, percentage drug entrapment, and in vitro drug release in pH 6.8. The prepared nanoparticles were almost spherical in shape, as determined by atomic force microscopy. The nanoparticles with varied size (241–274 nm) and 25.8–62% of entrapment efficiency were obtained. The nanoparticles formulations produced the release profiles with an initial burst effect in which diclofenac sodium release ranged between 38% and 47% within 4 h. The extent of drug release from Eudragit® L100 nanoparticles was up to 92% at 12 h. However, Eudragit®/PLGA nanoparticles showed an initial burst release followed by a slower sustained release. The cumulative release at 72 h was 56%, 69%, and 81% for Eudragit®/PLGA (20:80), Eudragit®/PLGA (30:70) and Eudragit®/PLGA (50:50) nanoparticles, respectively. The release profiles and encapsulation efficiencies depended on the amount of Eudragit in the blend. These data demonstrated the efficacy of these nanoparticles in sustaining the diclofenac sodium release profile.  相似文献

Our aim was to investigate the effects of moderate load, regular swimming exercise on stress‐induced anxiety, and associated oxidative organ injury. Male Sprague‐Dawley rats (n = 48) were either kept sedentary or submitted to swimming exercise for 8 weeks. Rats were then divided as non‐stressed, acute stress, and chronic stress groups. After acute or chronic stress (electric foot shocks) applications, rats were placed on a holeboard and the exploratory behavior was recorded to assess the anxiety. Rats were decapitated after the stress application. Acute and chronic stress induction led to increased serum cortisol levels as compared to non‐stressed groups. Plasma aspartate aminotransferase levels that were elevated in sedentary rats with both stress exposures were lower in trained rats. Malondialdehyde levels and myeloperoxidase activity were increased in the cardiac muscle, liver, stomach, and brain of the stressed rats with a concomitant reduction in the glutathione levels, while stress‐induced changes in malondialdehyde, myeloperoxidase, and glutathione levels were reversed in the trained animals. Exercise, which led to increased malondialdehyde and reduced glutathione levels in the skeletal muscle of the non‐stressed rats, also protected against stress‐induced oxidative damage. Regular exercise with its anxiolytic and antioxidant effects ameliorates stress‐induced oxidative organ damage by a neutrophil‐dependent mechanism. Copyright © 2010 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

This article examines the history of art education in Turkey. Since the beginning, the purposes of the arts and art education have been a point of discussion by various authorities. Whether art education should be taught, and how it needs to be taught, have been at the forefront of educationalists' minds. As a result, introducing certain models of art education has been a challenge. The objective of this article is to present the changes in art education since the 19th century in Turkey. The main focus is on art education practices and policies and an overview of key events in Turkey's history of art education. The article also presents issues related to the importance of visual arts education in Turkish primary school settings. In so doing, this research aims to show readers how past developments helped to create the current visual art education policy in Turkey.  相似文献

A new nuatigenin-type steroidal saponin, multifidoside (2), was isolated from the aerial parts of Veronica fuhsii and V multifida and its structure was identified as 3-O-([alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(1-->2glu)]-[beta-D-glucopyranosyl-(1-->4rha)-alpha-L-rhamnopyranosyl (1-->4glu)]-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]nuatigenin 26-O-beta-D-glucopyranoside. Additionally, a known steroidal saponoside, aculeatiside A (1), from V. fuhsii, a phenylethanoid glycoside, verpectoside A (3), and a flavon glycoside, isoscutellarein 7-O-(2"-O-6"-O-acetyl-beta-D-allopyranosyl-beta-D-glucopyranoside) (4) from V. multifida were isolated.  相似文献

We estimated growth parameters of Emys orbicularis and Mauremys rivulata in Mediterranean Turkey with the skeletochronological method, using specimens drowned in fyke nets. In adult E. orbicularis, the median age was 8 years in males and 10 years in females. The median age of adult M. rivulata was 10 years for both sexes. Both species reach sexual maturity at an age of 5–7 years. No difference was found in age composition between the sexes.  相似文献

The plant family Labiatae (Lamiaceae) is known for its fine medicinal and aromatic herbs like lavender, mint, oregano, sage and thyme and is a rich source of essential oils for the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industry. Besides its great economic importance, the Labiatae family contributes significantly to the endemic flora of Greece and Turkey. Owing to its economic and biological significance and to the difficult identification based on morphological characters of several of its taxa, the Labiatae family is an ideal case for developing DNA barcodes. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility of DNA barcoding on a local scale in discriminating Labiatae species in Chios Island (Greece) and the adjacent Çe?me‐Karaburun Peninsula (Turkey). We chose three cpDNA regions (matK, rbcL, trnH‐psbA) that were proposed by previous studies and tested them either as single region or as multiregion barcodes based on the criteria determined by Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL). Our results show that matK and trnH‐psbA taken as useful in discriminating species of the Labiatae, for the species we examined, as any multiregion combination. matK and trnH‐psbA could serve as single‐region barcodes for Labiatae species contributing to the conservation and the trade control of valuable plant resources.  相似文献

We conducted this study to assess serum soluble E-selectin (sE-selectin) levels and erythrocyte membrane Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and correlate the levels with disease activity. Levels of sE-selectin were measured in the serum of 20 patients with RA and 20 control subjects by an enzyme-linked immunosorbant assay. Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity was determined by a colorimetric method in RA patients and healthy controls. There were no statistically significant differences between the two groups with respect to demographic data such as age and sex (p > 0.05). The serum levels of sE-selectin, ESR and C-reactive protein (CRP) in RA patients were significantly higher than in healthy controls (p < 0.001). Erythrocyte membrane Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity was significantly lower in the RA group than in the control group (p < 0.001). Correlation analysis revealed significant positive correlations between soluble E-selectin and ESR (r = 0.457; p < 0.05) and CRP (r = 0.682; p < 0.01) levels. There were statistically significant negative correlations between erythrocyte membrane Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity and ESR (r = -0.450; p < 0.05) and CRP (r = -0.446; p < 0.05) levels. Additionally, a significant negative correlations between sE-selectin and Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity was observed (r = -0.80; p < 0.001). These results show that decreases in erythrocyte membrane Na(+)K(+) ATPase activity and increases in sE-selectin are observed in RA, and that increased levels of sE-selectin may also reflect disease status or activity.  相似文献

The objective of the present study was to investigate gene expression pattern of two docetaxel resistant MCF-7 breast carcinoma sublines step wisely selected in 30 and 120 nM docetaxel. Cell proliferation assay was performed in order to demonstrate development of docetaxel resistance. cDNA microarray analysis was performed using Affymetrix® Human Genome U133 Plus 2.0 Arrays in duplicate experiments. Quantitative and semi-quantitative gene expression analysis was also performed to confirm gene expression analysis for selected genes. XTT results demonstrated that 30 (MCF-7/30nM DOC) and 120 nM (MCF-7/120nM DOC) docetaxel selected cells were 13- and 47-fold resistant, respectively. cDNA microarray analysis demonstrated that expression profiles of MCF-7 and MCF-7/30nM DOC were more similar to each other where expression profile of MCF-7/120nM DOC was different as examined by line graphs and scatter plots. 2,837 and 4,036 genes were significantly altered in 30 and 120 nM docetaxel resistant sublines, respectively. Among these, 849 genes were altered in common in two docetaxel resistant sublines. Antiapoptotic gene expression (e.g., Bcl-2 and APRIL) were noticeably altered in MCF-7/30nM DOC. However, docetaxel resistance in MCF-7/120nM DOC were more complicated with the involvement of ECM related gene expression, cytokine and growth factor signaling, ROS metabolism and EMT related gene expression together with higher level of MDR1 expression. Expression profiles in 30 and 120 nM docetaxel resistant sublines changed gradually with increasing resistance index. Drug resistance development seems to be step wise event in MCF-7 cells.  相似文献
