The aim of this experimental study was to assess the skin microcirculation of undermined and nonundermined wound edges closed with a skin-stretching device. In eight piglets, 9 x 9-cm wounds were created on both flanks by excision of the skin and the subcutaneous layer down to the muscular fascia, with general anesthesia. On one flank, the surrounding skin was completely undermined. For a period of 30 minutes, wound closure was performed with a stretching device, using the principle of load cycling. The device stretched the skin and moved the opposing wound edges toward each other. During this period, laser Doppler flowmetry and transcutaneous oximetry were simultaneously used to monitor microcirculation and oxygenation in the stretched skin of both flanks. Undermining of the surrounding skin produced a 12 percent decrease in the laser Doppler flowmetry signal and a 21 percent decrease in the transcutaneous oximetry value. Skin stretching resulted in decreases in the laser Doppler flowmetry signals and the transcutaneous oximetry values, whether or not the skin was undermined. Releasing the stretching device resulted in rapid normalization of the laser Doppler flowmetry values in undermined and nonundermined skin and a slow return of the transcutaneous oximetry values to close to baseline levels in nonundermined skin. The transcutaneous oximetry values in undermined skin did not return to baseline levels; each period of skin stretching resulted in an additional decrease in the transcutaneous oximetry values. Stretching of undermined skin for 30 minutes produced a significant (p < 0.0001) decrease in skin oxygenation. As a result, 50 percent of the undermined stretched skin demonstrated skin necrosis at the wound edges, which was still present after 1 week. Wound healing in the nonundermined stretched skin proceeded without problems. It is concluded from these experiments that the viability of undermined skin becomes compromised as a result of significantly decreased oxygen availability in the skin during and after stretching. Consequently, it is recommended that skin stretching be performed on nonundermined skin, rather than undermined skin. In addition, when skin is stretched to close a large defect, it is logical to use cyclic loading, so that recuperation of the skin circulation can occur. Furthermore, laser Doppler flowmetry seemed to produce atypical signals in monitoring of skin viability of wound edges closed with a skin-stretching device.  相似文献

X/X translocations are quite rare in humans. The effect of this anomaly on the phenotype is variable and depends on the amount of deleted material and whether the chromosomes are joined by their long or short arms. We report an unusual case of Turner syndrome mosaicism in a 16-year-old girl, who was referred to our Institute for primary amenorrhoea associated with short stature. Endocrine evaluation revealed hypergonadotropic hypogonadism, which required a study of the karyotype. Cytogenetic analysis, performed on peripheral blood leucocytes, showed a mos 45,X/46,X,ter rea (X;X)(p22.3;p22.3) de novo karyotype. The prevalent cell line was 45,X (90% cells). A second cell line (10% cells) showed a very large marker chromosome, similar to a large metacentric chromosome. FISH (fluorescent in situ hybridisation) and molecular analysis revealed that the marker chromosome was dicentric and totally derived from the paternal X chromosome.  相似文献

To understand constraints on the evolution of cooperation, we compared the ability of bonobos and chimpanzees to cooperatively solve a food-retrieval problem. We addressed two hypotheses. The "emotional-reactivity hypothesis" predicts that bonobos will cooperate more successfully because tolerance levels are higher in bonobos. This prediction is inspired by studies of domesticated animals; such studies suggest that selection on emotional reactivity can influence the ability to solve social problems [1, 2]. In contrast, the "hunting hypothesis" predicts that chimpanzees will cooperate more successfully because only chimpanzees have been reported to cooperatively hunt in the wild [3-5]. We indexed emotional reactivity by measuring social tolerance while the animals were cofeeding and found that bonobos were more tolerant of cofeeding than chimpanzees. In addition, during cofeeding tests only bonobos exhibited socio-sexual behavior, and they played more. When presented with a task of retrieving food that was difficult to monopolize, bonobos and chimpanzees were equally cooperative. However, when the food reward was highly monopolizable, bonobos were more successful than chimpanzees at cooperating to retrieve it. These results support the emotional-reactivity hypothesis. Selection on temperament may in part explain the variance in cooperative ability across species, including hominoids.  相似文献

The genetic variability of 125 Norwegian Lundehund and 27 Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever was analysed using a set of 26 microsatellite markers. In Lundehund, the average number of alleles per locus was 1.73, and average observed (HO) and expected (HE) heterozygosity were 0.07. In Toller, all measures of genetic diversity were much higher than in Lundehund and similar to studies on other dog breeds. The cluster analysis correctly assigned individuals to their respective breed. The low genetic variability in Lundehund was not surprising, given the two strong bottlenecks in the 1940s and the 1960s. The relatedness of Lundehund to other Nordic small spitzes should be investigated in the view of possible outcrossing.  相似文献

We presented small groups of chimpanzees with two collective action situations, in which action was necessary for reward but there was a disincentive for individuals to act owing to the possibility of free-riding on the efforts of others. We found that in simpler scenarios (experiment 1) in which group size was small, there was a positive relationship between rank and action with more dominant individuals volunteering to act more often, particularly when the reward was less dispersed. Social tolerance also seemed to mediate action whereby higher tolerance levels within a group resulted in individuals of lower ranks sometimes acting and appropriating more of the reward. In more complex scenarios, when group size was larger and cooperation was necessary (experiment 2), overcoming the problem was more challenging. There was highly significant variability in the action rates of different individuals as well as between dyads, suggesting success was more greatly influenced by the individual personalities and personal relationships present in the group.  相似文献

The goal of this research is elucidation of the molecular mechanism for the unique photosystem II (PSII) damage and repair cycle in chloroplasts. A frequently occurring, irreversible photooxidative damage inhibits the PSII charge separation reaction and stops photosynthesis. The chloroplast PSII repair process rectifies this adverse effect by selectively removing and replacing the photoinactivated D1/32-kD reaction center protein (the chloroplast-encoded psbA gene product) from the massive (>1,000 kD) water-oxidizing and O2-evolving PSII holocomplex. DNA insertional mutagenesis in the model organism Chlamydomonas reinhardtii was applied for the isolation and characterization of rep27, a repair-aberrant mutant. Gene cloning and biochemical analyses in this mutant resulted in the identification of REP27, a nuclear gene encoding a putative chloroplast-targeted protein, which is specifically required for the completion of the D1 turnover process but is not essential for the de novo biogenesis and assembly of the PSII holocomplex in this model green alga. The REP27 protein contains two highly conserved tetratricopeptide repeats, postulated to facilitate the psbA mRNA cotranslational insertion of the nascent D1 protein in the existing PSII core template. Elucidation of the PSII repair mechanism may reveal the occurrence of hitherto unknown regulatory and catalytic reactions for the selective in situ replacement of specific proteins from within multiprotein complexes.  相似文献

People often act on behalf of others. They do so without immediate personal gain, at cost to themselves, and even toward unfamiliar individuals. Many researchers have claimed that such altruism emanates from a species-unique psychology not found in humans' closest living evolutionary relatives, such as the chimpanzee. In favor of this view, the few experimental studies on altruism in chimpanzees have produced mostly negative results. In contrast, we report experimental evidence that chimpanzees perform basic forms of helping in the absence of rewards spontaneously and repeatedly toward humans and conspecifics. In two comparative studies, semi–free ranging chimpanzees helped an unfamiliar human to the same degree as did human infants, irrespective of being rewarded (experiment 1) or whether the helping was costly (experiment 2). In a third study, chimpanzees helped an unrelated conspecific gain access to food in a novel situation that required subjects to use a newly acquired skill on behalf of another individual. These results indicate that chimpanzees share crucial aspects of altruism with humans, suggesting that the roots of human altruism may go deeper than previous experimental evidence suggested.  相似文献

Lasker's coefficient of relationship was calculated between 14 villages in Sardinia in order to estimate biological relationships on the base of common surnames. The data derive from parish marriage registers for the periods 1800-1824 and 1950-1974. Through time, coefficients of relationship between villages are generally higher for neighbouring villages. Moreover, the Ri between values decreases as the geographic distances increase. The negative Pearson product-moment correlation observed between the Ri matrix and the geographic distance matrix is statistically significant (Mantel's test) for the two periods considered. These results suggest that the biological similarity between villages, as shown by isonymy, tends to decrease as the geographic distance increases. In addition, the plots of isonymic relationships obtained by nonmetric multidimensional scaling for 1800-1824 and 1950-1974 show that the biological relationships between neighbouring villages increase in the second period considered.  相似文献

We have produced a panel of monoclonal antibodies directed against nonlymphoid cells in central and peripheral lymphoid organs. In this paper we present the reactivity of one of these antibodies, ER-TR7. This antibody detects reticular fibroblasts, which constitute the cellular framework of lymphoid and nonlymphoid organs and their products. In frozen sections of the spleen incubated with this antibody, the red pulp and white pulp are clearly delineated. Furthermore, the major white pulp compartments--the follicles and periarteriolar lymphoid sheath as well as the marginal zone--are recognized by their characteristic labeling patterns. In lymph nodes, the capsule, sinuses, follicles, paracortex, and medullary cords are clearly delineated. In the thymus and bone marrow no such specialized compartments were demonstrated. ER-TR7 reacts with an intracellular component of fibroblasts. Since ER-TR7 does not react with purified laminin, collagen types I-V, fibronectin, heparan sulfate proteoglycan, entactin, or nidogen, it detects a hitherto uncharacterized antigen. The possible role of the ER-TR7 positive reticular fibroblasts in the cellular organization of peripheral lymphoid organs will be discussed.  相似文献

We have studied To study the incidence of hemoglobinopathies (Hb C and Hb S) we have examined in 15,367 students, aged 11.4+/−4.64 years (median 11; range 1–26), living in Burkina Faso (12,019 were students of 23 public schools of Ouagadougou and 3348 students of 7 public schools situated in six villages about 12–35 Km from Ouagadougou). In all groups studied, β S and β C gene frequencies were age dependent there was an age dependency of the β S and β C gene frequencies, since the advantage of HbS carriers in a malarial region is prevalently expressed in the first years of life. In fact, β C the gene frequency of β C increases, and the β S decreases with age. The Mossi, living prevalently mainly in Ouagadougou, show a gene frequency which is similar to the Bissa ethnic groups, where the C gene frequencies (0.116 and 0.118) wereare more higher than the S (0.049 and 0.044 respectively). On the contrary in the Peuhl ethnic group the β C and β S gene frequencies (0.049 and 0.049) were are the same, while in the Yorouba ethnic group immigrated from Nigeria a prevalence of β S gene frequency is higher (0.117) than over the β C (0.068)gene frequencies was found in the Yorouba ethnic group, who is immigrated from Nigeria, showing that different gene frequencies are found in different ethniae ethnic groupscorrespond to different gene frequencies.  相似文献
