The frequency of chromosomal aberrations (CAs) was evaluated in blood lymphocytes from 18 healthy subjects. Basal CA frequencies were not significantly different in GSTM1 positive and GSTM1 null subjects (P>0.05), whereas they were considerably higher in smokers than in non-smokers. After 1 Gy dose of X-ray challenge of blood samples, CA frequencies were significantly higher in GSTM1 null subjects, compared to GSTM1 positive subjects (P<0.005), and in smokers, compared to non-smokers. These effects are ascribed to the influence of GSTM1 genotype and of smoking status on DNA repair capacities. As the induction of CAs are associated with carcinogenesis, the challenge assay is able to detect enhanced susceptibility for CA caused by genetic predisposition of DNA repair deficiency. 相似文献

Plastic surgeons have sought to improve nasolabial folds, jowls, jaw lines, and cervical contour with face-lifting procedures that are abundant in the literature. The retaining ligaments of the face support facial soft tissue in normal anatomic position, resisting gravitational change. As this ligamentous system attenuates, facial fat descends into the plane between the superficial and deep facial fascia, and the stigmata of facial age develop. In this study, surgical correction of the retaining ligaments and plication of the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) to reposition the structures that have descended with gravitation are discussed. The anatomy of the facial retaining ligaments was studied in 22 half-faces of 11 fresh cadavers, and the localization, extension, and width of the ligaments were examined macroscopically and histologically. Surgical correction of the retaining ligaments and plication of the SMAS have been accomplished in 27 face-lift patients with this anatomicohistologic study taken into consideration. There was hematoma in one patient at the cheek region and a permanent dimple caused by postoperative edema in two patients, with a localization of one zygomatic and two parotidomasseteric ligaments. In one patient, hypesthesia in the mandibular nerve region was seen, which remitted at 14 weeks. There were no other complications, and with a follow-up of 24 months, excellent aesthetic results and a high level of patient satisfaction were encountered. 相似文献

Color and texture match is crucial in reconstruction of facial tissue defects. Between March of 1997 and July of 2000, island flaps based on the parietal, anterofrontal, centrofrontal, posterofrontal, and superior auricular branches of the superficial temporal artery were used in the reconstruction of tissue defects localized on different regions of the face in 28 patients. According to the size and the location of the defect, the flap was selected. There were 15 male patients and 13 female patients, with ages ranging between 19 and 74 years. In six of the flaps, venous congestion was observed. Because of the elevation of the eyebrow on the flap side, three patients required a sling to the opposite eyebrow. Excellent color and tissue match and transfer of hair-bearing tissue to the eyebrow and beard areas were achieved with no other complications. Satisfactory aesthetic results were gained. 相似文献

Twin stage 1 juveniles from the signal crayfish, Pacifastacus leniusculus, were observed in this study. No such observations have been found in the literature. The twins consist of two stage 1 juveniles that are fused at the head. The purpose of the study was to synthesize and evaluate the antimicrobial effects of two monophosphazenes, N-diphenylphosphoryl-P-triphenylmonophosphazene-II and N-di(o-tolyl)phosphoryl-P-tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III on bacterial and yeast strains. The biological effects of these molecules were compared with a potential antioxidant vitamin E. According to results, the triphenyl monophosphazene-II has antimicrobial effect on all the bacterial and yeast cells, but tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III has only antimicrobial effect on some bacterial cells. When the concentration of triphenyl monophosphazene-II was raised, it was observed that inhibition zone increased on the bacterial growth media. The biological effects of these molecules were compared to vitamin E in the Saccharomyces cerevisiae culture media. In 200 microg administered culture media, the cell density decreased in vitamin E, triphenyl monophosphazene-II and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III groups at the end of 24 and 48 h incubation times (p<0.001,p<0.05). While the cell densities in vitamin E and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-II groups decreased partly at the end of 72 h incubation time (p<0.05), its level in triphenyl monophosphazene-II group increased (p<0.01) at the same incubation time. In 1,000 microg administered culture media, cell density was not found to differ between vitamin E and control groups at the end of 24h incubation time, but it was found that the cell densities in triphenyl monophosphazene and tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III groups decreased at the same incubation time (p<0.001). The cell densities in tri(o-tolyl)monophosphazene-III group and triphenyl monophosphazene-II decreased at the end of 48 h incubation time (respectively, p<0.05,p<0.001). In 200 microg administered cell pellets, while the lipid level was not found to differ between control and vitamin E, the lipid level decreased in triphenyl monophosphazene-II and tri(o-tolyl)monophospazene-III groups (respectively, p<0.001,p<0.01). In this study, we investigated the role of nitric oxide metabolism and lipid peroxidation in patients with P. vivax malaria. The levels of nitrite and nitrate were analyzed using a procedure based on the Griess reaction and malondialdehyde levels which index of lipid peroxidation was determined by thiobarbituric acid reaction. The levels of nitrite/nitrate and malondialdehyde in patients were higher than controls and found to be statistically significant (p < 0.001). We performed this study to determine whether nitric oxide and lipid peroxidation is produced during blood-stage P. vivax malaria. This present study shows that lipid peroxidation occurs in P. vivax malaria. The levels of nitric oxide are associated with lipid peroxidation in this disease. 相似文献

The effect of inoculation with selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains was studied on fermentation and flavor compounds of wines made from Vitis vinifera L. cv. Emir grown in Central Anatolia, Turkey. Flavor compounds were analysed and identified by GC-FID and GC-MS, respectively.
The total concentrations of flavor compounds did not increase with the addition of indigenous and commercial wine yeasts,
but differences were noted in individual volatile compounds. Cluster and factor analyses of flavor compounds also showed that
wines produced were different depending on the wine strain used. Wines were completely fermented to less than 1.4 g/l residual
