The holotype of a bothid flounder,Arnoglossus tapeinosomus (Bleeker, 1866), was re-examined and found to bear none of the diagnostic characters ascribed by many authors to the species. In addition, the shape of the prevomer was clearly different between the holotype and 18 specimens supposedly“A. tapeinosomus.” A. macrolophus Alcock, 1889, which was synonymized underA. tapeinosomus by Weber and de Beaufort (1929), is considered as a valid replacement name for“A. tapeinosomus,” because of the elongated anterior rays in the dorsal fin and a large, dark spot on the posterior dorsal and anal fin bases.A. tapeinosomus is redescribed from the holotype.  相似文献

Summary Extensive screening of the mitogens lipopolysaccharide (LPS), pokeweed mitogen (PWM), andStaphylococcus aureus Cowan I (SAC I), alone and in combination and with and without interleukin (IL) was performed forin vitro activation of regional lymph node lymphocytes from lung cancer patients for the production of human IgG, IgM, and IgA. As assessed by electrofusion of the lymphocytes following their exposure to these agents with mouse myeloma cells and incubation of the fused hybridoma, a remarkable stimulatory effect was shown by LPS and particularly by LPS plus IL-4, which was substantially greater than that of either SAC I or PWM with or without various IL. Optimization studies indicated that the addition of PWM to LPS and IL-4 in the culture medium further stimulated the human antibody (Ab) production, and that the optimal formulation for stimulations of human IgG production was a culture medium containing 20 μg/ml of LPS, 1/500 of PWM, and 100 u/ml of IL-4.  相似文献

Parasitic specialization ofGeotrichum candidum citrus race, the causal agent of citrus sour rot, was investigated. Of seven isolates tested for pathogenecity, all could infect ten species of citrus fruits and edible parts of five species of noncitrus crops. Three thiamine-binding proteins of 17-19 kDa (STBP-I, II, and III) were purified from sesame seed (Sesamum indicum L.). Each of the proteins was composed of two subunits of equal molecular mass and each subunit consisted of a large polypeptide and a small polypeptide linked by a disulfide bond(s). They were rich in glutamic acid (or glutamine) and arginine. Their binding activities were optimal at neutral pH. They bound specifically free thiamine but not thiamine phosphates. STBP-I had higher affinity for thiamine than STBP-II or STBP-III. STBP-II and STBP-III bound one molecule of thiamine per molecule, and STBP-I bound 0.5 molecule. The amino acid composition and structure of the STPBs were similar to those of 2S storage proteins.  相似文献

At photoperiods longer than 8h per 24h, adults of the day-active onion fly Delia antiqua showed a major peak of locomotor activity in the late photophase and also bursts of activity induced by lights-on or lights-off. At shorter photoperiods the activity peaks fused. After transfer from long photoperiods to constant darkness (DD), the rhythm free-ran, but only the major peak persisted. This suggests that only the major peak is controlled by the circadian pacemaker. At long photoperiods, the daily phase of the major peak occurred progressively later with age. As a result, the activity at short photoperiods often shifted from photophase to scotophase in old flies. The free-running period (tau) also changed with age; tau was shorter than 24h until 14-20 days after eclosion and thereafter became longer, but a few individuals repeated changes in tau. The phase delay of locomotor activity with age in D. antiqua would be attributable to the increase in tau.  相似文献

Abstract: Changes in extracellular levels of acetylcholine (ACh) and choline (Ch) in the striatum of rats were examined by in vivo microdialysis after intraperitoneal injections of drugs. A dopamine D2 antagonist, sulpiride (20 mg/kg), and a muscarinic antagonist, atropine (3.5 mg/kg), increased ACh levels and decreased Ch levels. On the contrary, the D2 agonist (±)-2-( N -phenylethyl- N -propyl)amino-5-hydroxytetralin (N-434; 5 mg/kg) and an anesthetic, pentobarbital (50 mg/kg), decreased ACh levels and increased Ch levels. Perfusion of 10 µ M hemicholinium-3 (HC-3), a Ch uptake inhibitor, through the striatum induced a complete inhibition of ACh release and increased Ch levels in all drug-treated groups. The degree of relative increase in the level of Ch induced by HC-3 differed among the drug-pretreated groups; compared with the control group, the relative increase was larger in the sulpiride- and atropine-treated groups and smaller in the N-434 and pentobarbital-treated groups. Thus, we demonstrated reciprocal relations between extracellular concentrations of Ch and ACh after treatments by drugs. The data suggest that in the striatum, which is rich in cholinergic innervation, the extracellular Ch concentration is to a large extent determined by activity of the cholinergic transmission reflected in high-affinity choline uptake.  相似文献

Abstract: It has been previously reported that Alzheimer's amyloid β protein (Aβ) induces reactive astrocytosis in culture. In the present study, we found that Aβ potently inhibits cellular redox activity of cultured astrocytes, as determined by the 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide reduction assay. The following comparative studies revealed several differences between these two actions of Aβ on astrocytes. First, Aβ-induced reactive morphological change was suppressed by the presence of serum or thrombin, and Aβ inhibition of cellular redox activity was observed in either the presence or the absence of serum. Second, micromolar concentrations (10 µ M or more) were required for Aβ to induce reactive astrocytosis, whereas nanomolar concentrations (0.1–100 n M ) were sufficient to inhibit cellular redox activity. Third, the effect of micromolar Aβ was virtually irreversible, but nanomolar Aβ-induced inhibition of cellular redox activity was reversed by washing out Aβ. Furthermore, as it has been reported that Aβ neurotoxicity is mediated by reactive oxygen species, we also examined if similar mechanisms are involved in astrocytic response to Aβ. However, neither Aβ-induced morphological change nor inhibition of redox activity was blocked by antioxidants, suggesting that these effects are not caused by oxidative stress.  相似文献

A method is described for the determination of urinary hippuric acid by high-performance liquid chromatography. The method used ethyl acetate extraction for partial clean-up of the urine. The separation was carried out on a reversed-phase column using 20% methanol in 0.01 M aqueous potassium phosphate containing 0.5% acetic acid as a mobile phase. The column effluent was monitored with a UV detector at 254 nm. Hippuric acid was separated from other normal urine constituents in less than 10 min. Metabolites of xylene and styrene did not interfere with the assay. Analytical recoveries from urine were excellent and peak height and concentration were linearly related.  相似文献
