A study was made of the metabolic acidosis of hypotensive shock in 25 patients in an attempt to elucidate its etiology and to determine if the degree of acidosis might be a good parameter for the evaluation of treatment and prognosis.Blood lactate was elevated (> 1.3 mEq./l.) in 24 of 25 patients in hypotensive shock. There was a good correlation (r= 0.83, p < 0.01) between rising blood lactate and decrease in serum bicarbonate and arterial pH, early in shock. These data indicate that the metabolic acidosis of early shock is largely due to lactate ion. Evidence is presented that high blood lactate levels early in shock are indicative of poor prognosis.  相似文献

Trisomy 21 (T21) or Down syndrome (DS) is the most common genetic disorder associated with intellectual disability and affects around 5 million persons worldwide. Neuroanatomical phenotypes associated with T21 include slight reduction of brain size and weight, abnormalities in several brain areas including spines dysgenesis, dendritic morphogenesis, and early neuroanatomical characteristics of Alzheimer’s disease. Monoamine neurotransmitters are involved in dendrites development, functioning of synapses, memory consolidation, and their levels measured in the cerebrospinal fluid, blood, or brain areas that are modified in individuals with T21. DYRK1A is one of the recognized key genes that could explain some of the deficits present in individuals with T21. We investigated by high-performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection the contents and processing of monoamines neurotransmitters in four brain areas of female and male transgenic mice for the Dyrk1a gene (mBactgDyrk1a). DYRK1A overexpression induced dramatic deficits in the serotonin contents of the four brain areas tested and major deficits in dopamine and adrenaline contents especially in the hypothalamus. These results suggest that DYRK1A overexpression might be associated with the modification of monoamines content found in individuals with T21 and reinforce the interest to target the level of DYRK1A expression as a therapeutic approach for persons with T21.  相似文献

Primary products of bacteriophage lambda recombination that display heterozygosity as a consequence of the presence of regions of heteroduplex DNA are rare in standard lambda crosses. Phage manifesting heterozygosity at a given allele are evident when recombinants, emerging from a cross, are selected for an exchange in a neighboring interval. We show that the abundance of such heterozygotes can be increased 10- to 20-fold by selection on an E. coli indicator that is defective in methyl-directed mismatch repair (mutL). Thus, the activity of the methyl-directed mismatch repair system is, at least in part, responsible for the low frequency of detectably heterozygous phage emerging from a standard cross. In a mutL indicator, many primary products of recombination are replicated without the intervention of mismatch repair.--The products of a six-factor phage cross have been plated on a mutL indicator allowing visual detection of those phage products heterozygous for one of the allelic pairs, cI. By genetic analysis, we show that the heteroduplex regions of these primary products of recombination are on the average about 4 kb in length and can include as much as half of the lambda genome.  相似文献

Arterial blood lactate concentrations were measured in six normal males before, during and after 3- and 6-min bicycle exercises performed at three different work rates. The lactate recovery curves were fitted to a bi-exponential time function consisting of a rapidly increasing and a slowly decreasing component, which supplied an accurate representation of the changes in lactate concentration. Variations in the parameters of this mathematical model have been studied as a function of the duration of exercise and of the work rate, showing a clear dependence on exercise duration such that increasing exercise length decreases the velocity constants of the fitted curves. In terms of the functional meaning which can be given to these constants, this result indicates that extending exercise duration from 3 to 6 min reduces the ability of the whole body to exchange and remove lactate. This effect did not qualitatively modify the one already described, which is due to increased work rates, but it shifted the ability to exchange and remove lactate towards lower values. The main conclusion of the study is that lactate kinetic data vary as a function of time during exercise. This inference must be accounted for in the interpretation of lactate data obtained during muscular exercise.  相似文献

The uptake of dissolved organic carbon by three stream bed components; surface stones, underlying gravel and organic floc was measured in three rivers in North Wales, U.K. Overall, surface stones and underlying gravel appeared to be the major sites of uptake but the relative importance of these two components varied both temporally and spatially. Organic floc was found to be relatively unimportant as a site of dissolved organic carbon uptake.  相似文献

From a data bank of 2467 odoriferous products, the similaritiesbetween 74 notes used in perfumery were calculated. The similaritymatrix (74,74) contains – 63% of zero values and showsthat only a few pairs of notes present high similarity coefficients.A fine analysis using ascending hierarchical taxonomy with thecomplete linkage procedure shows that 14 notes are isolatedwhile 60 notes are regrouped in 27 groups containing two tofour notes. The isolated notes correspond to well-defined structuralparticularities. Some pairs of notes or groups present similaritiesin their chemical structures but some groups are built on thebasis of semantic processes. This study shows that the notesare generally independent, with no strict hierarchy among them,and rules out the existence of primary odors.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to determine the potential effects on progressive aerobic work while breathing through a new military type chemical and biological (CB) respirator loaded with three different types of purifying canisters. Twelve healthy well-motivated male subjects (mean age 23 +/- 3 years) participated in the study. Results indicated that mean maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max), time to exhaustion, respiratory exchange ratio, rate of perceived exertion, respiratory rate and tidal volume at exhaustion, maximal lactate and the 2-min post-exercise lactate were not significantly influenced when breathing with the respirator and the canisters in comparison to a laboratory valve. Mean pulmonary ventilation, however, was reduced by 21% while oxygen and carbon dioxide ventilatory equivalents were significantly lower by 9% and 8% respectively. Review of the stage-by-stage responses to the treadmill test between the laboratory valve and respirator/canister conditions indicated no significant differences (NS) in oxygen uptake but slightly lower heart rates (NS). Ventilation was not influenced by the canisters until 80% of VO2max at which time the mean oxygen ventilatory equivalent became significantly lower. Blood lactate was significantly depressed between 60% and 90% VO2max under the respirator/canister conditions. It was concluded that, although physiological adaptation occurred, breathing with the new CB respirator and each of the three purifying canisters had no detrimental effect on progressive aerobic work to exhaustion. However, prolonged work at intensities greater than 80-85% of VO2max would in all probability be impaired when breathing with the CB mask and the canisters.  相似文献
