Response of low- and high-threshold mechanosensitive C fiber sensory units (MSU) in n. saphenus to close-arterial injection of potassium ions in subnoxious and noxious concentrations (SC and NC) were investigated in anesthetized cats. Two groups of high-threshold units were found: 1) MSU reacting to K+ at both SC and NC, but responding very differently to each of these concentrations and 2) MSU responding to NC only. Findings would indicate that high-rather than lowthreshold MSU participate in the perception of noxious stimuli. The possibility of differentiation between subnoxious and noxious stimuli by a proportion of high-threshold MSU is considered. As part of an epidemiological study on leishmaniasis in Merida, Venezuela, the diversity and dispersion of sandflies species found in 15 localities between 175 m and 1,960 m.a.s.l., are presented. From 7,126 collected sandflies (5,132 female and 1,994 male), 24 species were identified, 10 of them recognized as anthropophilic. The relation species-altitude is presented, and the species composition found in human dwellings, periodomestic and sylvatic areas, are recorded. The possible role of the identified species on the transmission of leishmaniasis in the andean region, is discussed.  相似文献

Quantitation and characterization of tau factor in porcine tissues   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Using a monospecific antibody against brain tau factor purified by affinity chromatography, we have studied the distribution of tau factor or related polypeptides in different cells. The presence of tau in all cell types tested was demonstrated by a radioimmunoassay. Tau factor-related proteins were found in liver, spleen, pancreas, kidney and lung, although at much lower levels than that found in neural cells. In all cases, they copolymerized with tubulin and were heat-resistant. When the distribution of tau factor-related proteins was studied by Western blotting, tau factor antiserum reacted against peptides with an electrophoretic mobility that was similar to those of brain tau factor peptides. Immunofluorescence studies have also been performed with the same antibody to determine the distribution of tau factor-related peptides in PK15 cells. Our results indicated that these peptides were associated to the microtubule network.  相似文献

Summary We have isolated restriction fragments from a shotgun collection of Drosophila DNA which function as autonomously replicating sequences (ARS) in Saccharomyces cerevisiae and hybridize with telomeric regions of the 2L, 2R, 4, and X chromosomes. In an independently obtained set of D. melanogaster clones five fragments hybridize in situ with telomeres and a number of internal sites. Two of them also contain ARSs. A Drosophila mobile P-element also possesses ARS activity in yeast.  相似文献

The kind of fixative and duration of fixation modify the affinity of plant cell structures, as shown by a 10-15 hr impregnation at 70 C in 2% aqueous AgNO2, and a 1-2 hr reduction at room temperature by a 1:1 mixture of 10% formalin and 1% hydroquinone. Cytoplasmic staining was enhanced by fixing in salts of heavy metals, in buffered 6.5% glutaraldehyde, and in 0.5% picric acid. Nuclear staining was prominent after mixtures of glutaraldehyde and hydroquinone, after formalin and pyrogallol, and after acetone, propylene glycol or ether. Nucleolar staining was favored by fixing in 10% formalin, in 5% formalin containing 0.5% hydroquinone, in 50% ethanol containing 0.5% pyrogallol, or in ethylene glycol. Chromosome staining was favored by fixation in 50% acetic or propionic acid, in 2% trichloroacetic acid, and in methanol or ethanol. The best morphological preservations were seen after 50% acetic acid, 6.5% glutaraldehyde, or the 5% formalin-0.5% hydroquinone mixture.  相似文献

The 1st feature revealed typical for diapause phenomena inTrichogramma species is the interaction of environmental conditions in both parental and filial generations in induction of diapause in the latter. Lowered temperature during larval development is the ultimate factor evoking diapause in pronymphs but the norm of this thermal reaction is not fixed but varies depending on photoperiod and temperature in the previous generation due to maternal influence. Short day and in some cases high temperature in parental generation enhance tendency to diapause in the progeny. Unlike maternal influence the development to filial generation itself is not (or almost is not) governed by its own photoperiodic reaction. The 2nd typical feature revealed is the occurrence of endogenous process running in the sequence of generations and causing changes in the diapause tendency and underlying reaction norms even under constant rearing conditions.   相似文献

The Bcl-2 protein inhibits apoptosis induced by a variety of signals, in a range of cell types and in diverse organisms, and it is implicated in both normal development and oncogenesis. Despite this central role, the mechanism of action of Bcl-2 is not yet clear. Recent studies have uncovered a number of Bcl-2-related gene products that regulate apoptosis either negatively or positively, and Bcl-2 forms heterodimers with at least one of these proteins, Bax. This article discusses the role of the Bcl-2 family of proteins in the light of these findings.  相似文献

Responses of neurons of the lateral (LPO) and medial (MPO) subdivisions of the preoptic region (RPO) and of the supraoptic nucleus (SO) of the hypothalamus at infusions of up to 400 µl of a hypotonic (0.2%) or a hypertonic (0.3%) NaCl solution or an isotonic (5.5%) glucose solution into the homolateral internal carotid artery were studied in acute experiments on ketamine-anesthetized cats. Changes in the firing frequency were exhibited by 69% of the examinedRPO andSO neurons, the response being of four different types: a monophasic increase (1st-type) or a monophasic decrease (2nd-type) in the activity; biphasic responses where an initial frequency rise was followed by inhibition (3rd-type) and vice versa (4th-type). Of all the neuronal responses to all stimulations, 50% (121/245) were of the 1st type; 11% (26/245), of the 2nd type; 5% (14/245), of the 3rd type; and 3% (7/245), of the 4th type. No neurons with 1st-type responses to infusion of the hypotonic NaCl solution were found in the medial sections of theMPO, and of the hypertonic solution, in the lateral sections of theLPO. Neurons with 2nd-type responses to infusion of hypo- and hypertonic NaCl solutions were almost solely detected in theSO, whereas units with such responses to glucose infusions were observed only in theRPO, being fully absent in theSO, where this stimulation gave rise only to 1st-type responses. Amphibians and reptiles are sensitive to changes in the thermal environment, which varies considerably in human-modified landscapes. Although it is known that thermal traits of species influence their distribution in modified landscapes, how herpetofauna respond specifically to shifts in ambient temperature along forest edges remains unclear. This may be because most studies focus on local-scale metrics of edge exposure, which only account for a single edge or habitat patch. We predicted that accounting for the combined effect of multiple habitat edges in a landscape would best explain herpetofaunal response to thermally mediated edge effects. We (1) surveyed herpetofauna at two lowland, fragmented forest sites in central Colombia, (2) measured the critical thermal maximum (CTmax) of the species sampled, (3) measured their edge exposure at both local and landscape scales, and (4) created a thermal profile of the landscape itself. We found that species with low CTmax occurred both further from forest edges and in areas of denser vegetation, but were unaffected by the landscape-scale configuration of habitat edges. Variation in the thermal landscape was driven primarily by changes in vegetation density. Our results suggest that amphibians and reptiles with low CTmax are limited by both canopy gaps and proximity to edge, making them especially vulnerable to human modification of tropical forest. Summary Candida utilis var. major NRRL-Y-1084 was grown in a defined medium without a phosphorous (P) source. During the exponential phase, cells divided according to a specific growth rate of 0.32 h-1, which is lower than the usual rate for a balanced medium (0.4–0.6 h-1). The relative P content of the biomass decreased from 2.70% to 0.75% over a period of 6 h, including 2 h of cell division arrest. At the end of this period there was another interruption of cell division. After that, multiplication restarted at a considerably lower rate and it deviated slightly from the exponential pattern. The stationary phase began when biomass P content reached 0.4%–0.5%, slowly decreasing afterwards to 0.25–0.20%. Biomass synthesis was less affected than cell division by the relative decrease of endogenous P, the two processes differing partially in their kinetics. Cell lysis started shortly before the stationary phase and affected about 20% of the population by the end of the assay. RNA and P content of the resulting biomass were 2.4% and 0.25% respecitvely, P being mainly incorporated to RNA.The relationship of biomass production to glucose uptake was very low, probably because the marked P deficiency called for an increase in energy consumption for growth and specially for maintenance.
