The authors describe Mixtacandona elegans n. sp.,M. pietrosanii n. sp., M. tabacarui n. sp. and present new data on the systematics and biogeography of the following Mixtacandona groups: ljovuschkini,hvarensis and riongessa. Mixtacandona elegans n. sp. belongs to the group ljovuschkini. The carapace is very elongated and has markedly assymetrical valves. The species has been found in a porous aquifer in southeastern Bulgaria. M. pietrosanii n. sp. belongs to the group hvarensis. The 3rd antennular segment and the 2nd endopodial segment of the cleaning leg have each two setae. The species lives in porous aquifers in the Danube plain in Roumania. M. tabacarui n. sp. (gr. riongessa) has a triangular left valve with a pointed dorsal protuberance. The species has been found in wells fed by karstic water in southern dobrodgea (Roumania), on the Black Sea coast.  相似文献

The course in forensic anthropology presented at Florida State University is designed to train criminal investigators in the application of physical anthropological and archaeological techniques to the investigation of buried bodies. Modification of archaeological field techniques by experimentation using artificial graves allows the recovery of fragile and easy to overlook evidence and ensures the recovery of all possible material for analysis by the physical anthropologist. Observations of the light-scattering properties of several enveloped viruses indicate that virions (vesicular stomatitis, SV5 and influenza), in common with other membrane systems, are osmotically active, responding to NaCl gradients by swelling in hypo-osmolar solutions and shrinking in hyperosmolar solutions. The permeability barrier responsible for this osmotic response in vesicular stomatitis virions was modified both by protease treatment to remove the viral glycoprotein and by treatment with the polyene antibiotic filipin, an agent known to interact with cholesterol in liposomes and membranes. Filipin altered the kinetic and equilibrium permeability behavior of virions but the extent of leakage of osmotic shocking agent was less than that in lecithin/cholesterol and lecithin/ergosterol liposomes and in ergosterol-containing ciliary membranes. Negative-staining electron microscopy revealed that filipin treatment caused structural changes in the viral membrane. Intact virions exhibited appreciably larger responses to osmotic change than did protease-treated virus particles. Thus, the osmotic barrier in intact vesicular stomatitis virions may not be exclusively lipid in nature.  相似文献

There are few studies on rhinitis and sick building syndrome (SBS) among students in tropical countries. We studied associations between levels of five fungal DNA sequences, two mycotoxins (sterigmatocystin and verrucarol) and cat allergen (Fel d 1) levels in schools and rhinitis and other weekly SBS symptoms in the students. Fungal DNA was measured by quantitative PCR and cat allergen by ELISA. Pupils (N = 462) from eight randomly selected schools in Johor Bahru, Malaysia participated (96%). Dust samples were collected by cotton swabs and Petri dishes exposed for one week. None of the schools had a mechanical ventilation system, but all classrooms had openable windows that were kept open during lectures and indoor CO2 levels were low (mean 492 ppm; range 380–690 ppm). Weekly nasal symptoms (rhinitis) (18.8%), ocular (11.6%), throat (11.1%), dermal symptoms, headache (20.6%) and tiredness (22.1%) were common. Total fungal DNA in swab samples was associated with rhinitis (p = 0.02), ocular symptoms (p = 0.009) and tiredness (p = 0.001). There were positive associations between Aspergillus versicolor DNA in Petri dish samples, ocular symptoms (p = 0.02) and tiredness (p = 0.001). The level of the mycotoxin verrucarol (produced by Stachybotrys chartarum) in swab samples was positively associated with tiredness (p = 0.04). Streptomyces DNA in swab samples (p = 0.03) and Petri dish samples (p = 0.03) were negatively associated with tiredness. In conclusion, total fungal contamination, measured as total fungal DNA) in the classrooms, Aspergillus versicolor and verrucarol can be risk factors for rhinitis and SBS symptoms among students in the tropical country Malaysia.  相似文献

The first part of this review on entropic elastic processes in protein mechanisms (Urry, 1988) demonstrated with the polypentapeptide of elastin (Val1-Pro2-Gly3-Val4-Gly5)n that elastic structure develops as the result of an inverse temperature transition and that entropic elasticity is due to internal chain dynamics in a regular nonrandom structure. This demonstration is contrary to the pervasive perspective of entropic protein elasticity of the past three decades wherein a network of random chains has been considered the necessary structural consequence of the occurrence of dominantly entropic elastomeric force. That this is not the case provides a new opportunity for understanding the occurrence and role of entropic elastic processes in protein mechanisms. Entropic elastic processes are considered in two classes: passive and active. The development of elastomeric force on deformation is class I (passive) and the development of elastomeric force as the result of a chemical process shifting the temperature of a transition is class II (active). Examples of class I are elastin, the elastic filament of muscle, elastic force changes in enzyme catalysis resulting from binding processes and resulting in the straining of a scissile bond, and in the turning on and off of channels due to changes in transmembrane potential. Demonstration of the consequences of elastomeric force developing as the result of an inverse temperature transition are seen in elastin, where elastic recoil is lost on oxidation, i.e., on decreasing the hydrophobicity of the chain and shifting the temperature for the development of elastomeric force to temperatures greater than physiological. This is relevant in general to loss of elasticity on aging and more specifically to the development of pulmonary emphysema. Since random chain networks are not the products of inverse temperature transitions and the temperature at which an inverse temperature transition occurs depends on the hydrophobicity of the polypeptide chain, it now becomes possible to consider chemical processes for turning elastomeric force on and off by reversibly changing the hydrophobicity of the polypeptide chain. This is herein called mechanochemical coupling of the first kind; this is the chemical modulation of the temperature for the transition from a less-ordered less elastic state to a more-ordered more elastic state. In the usual considerations to date, development of elastomeric force is the result of a standard transition from a more-ordered less elastic state to a less-ordered more elastic state. When this is chemically modulated, it is herein called mechanochemical coupling of the second kind. For elastin and the polypentapeptide of elastin, since entropic elastomeric force results on formation of a regular nonrandom structure and thermal randomization of chains results in loss of elastic modulus to levels of limited use in protein mechanisms, consideration of regular spiral-like structures rather than ramdom chain networks or random coils are proposed for mechanochemical coupling of the second kind. Chemical processes to effect mechanochemical coupling in biological systems are most obviously phosphorylation-dephosphorylation and changes in calcium ion activity but also changes in pH. These issues are considered in the events attending parturition in muscle contraction and in cell motility.  相似文献
