Dermacentor reticulatus ticks are recognized as the most important vectors of Babesia canis, the aetiological agent of canine babesiosis occurring throughout Europe. Vector competence of D. reticulatus for B. canis is well described and experimentally determined; however, by using molecular analysis it was proven so by one recent study in Russia. Herein, the additional molecular evidence of B. canis infection in D. reticulatus ticks collected in Slovakia is provided. Using PCR followed by sequencing of distinctive amplicons we determined the presence of Babesia canis canis in one of 100 tested adult ticks. Two zoonotic pathogens, Francisella tularensis and Coxiella burnetii, were previously isolated from D. reticulatus ticks in Slovakia. In our samples, we detected only the presence of F. tularensis.  相似文献

In the southern parts of Scandinavia there occur two species of theVicia cracca L. complex:Vicia cracca L., represented by the chromosome race 2n=28, andV. oreophila ?ertová. WhereasV. oreophila predominantly inhabits habitats of primary character, especially near the coast, the tetraploid race ofV. cracca, which is the commonest in other parts of area, occurs predominantly on sites of secondary character, such as the borders of paths, roads, meadows and bushy places. In ten infants divided into two groups (up to one month of age and at 2–7 months of age) the dynamics and formation of different antibody isotypes produced locally in the intenstine and in serum after orally administered inactivated enteropathogenicE. coli strains O111 and O55 was followed during 30 d after the first and booster dose by using an indirect immunofluorescence method. Infants up to one month of age produced antibodies of IgM isotype in stool together with the IgA isotype after the first and booster dose of the vaccine against both antigens. Serum IgG antibody increased after 2 d following the first and second dose of antigens and remained higher during 5 d. The infants aged 2–7 months expressed predominantly the IgA isotype response in stool after the first and booster dose of antigens. The serum immunoglobulin levels did not change after oral antigen administration.  相似文献

The success of introduced species is often facilitated by escape from the effects of natural predators and parasites. Introduced species can profit from this favourable situation, attaining higher population densities and greater individual sizes in novel areas. In this study, somatic condition and parasite infection were compared between native and non-native populations of Neogobius kessleri Günther; introduced only within the interconnected Danube and Rhine River system, and N. melanostomus (Pallas); widely introduced throughout several river systems in Europe and North America. Higher values of Fulton’s condition factor were observed in non-native populations of both goby species. Neogobius melanostomus attained higher gonadosomatic index values in non-native populations, indicating potential increased investment in reproduction in its new area. A lower splenosomatic index was observed in non-native populations, especially in N. melanostomus. Parasite infracommunity richness and mean abundance were higher in N. kessleri in both native and non-native populations, suggesting higher susceptibility of N. kessleri to these parasites. Non-native populations of both hosts showed higher infra-community richness as a result of acquiring parasites native to the new area, but lower parasite abundance. Differences in success of the introduction and establishment in new areas between the two fish species may be associated with a relatively low parasite infection rate and a higher gonadosomatic index in non-native populations of N. melanostomus in comparison to N. kessleri.  相似文献

Recent advances in cytokinin analysis have made it possible to measure the content of 22 cytokinin metabolites in the tissue of developing tobacco seedlings. Individual types of cytokinins in plants are interconverted to their respective forms by several enzymatic activities (5'-AMP-isopentenyltransferase, adenosine nucleosidase, 5'-nucleotidase, adenosine phosphorylase, adenosine kinase, trans-hydroxylase, zeatin reductase, beta-glucosidase, O-glucosyl transferase, N-glucosyl transferase, cytokinin oxidase). This paper reports modelling and measuring of the dynamics of endogenous cytokinins in tobacco plants grown on media supplemented with isopentenyl adenine (IP), zeatin (Z) and dihydrozeatin riboside (DHZR). Differences in phenotypes generated by the three cytokinins are shown and discussed, and the assumption that substrate concentration drives enzyme kinetics underpinned the construction of a simple mathematical model of cytokinin metabolism in developing seedlings. The model was tested on data obtained from liquid chromatography/tandem mass spectrometry cytokinin measurements on tobacco seedlings grown on Murashige and Skoog agar nutrient medium, and on plants grown in the presence of IP, Z and DHZR. A close match was found between measured and simulated data, especially after a series of iterative parameter searches, in which the parameters were set to obtain the best fit with one of the data sets.  相似文献

A mechanism for the establishment of polar cell morphology is presented, based on the internal forces that the cytoskeletal structures exert on the cell boundary. Cell shapes are determined by postulating that they correspond to the minimum of the total energy of the system, which is the sum of the bending energy of the cell boundary and the potential energies of the involved forces. Axisymmetrical cell shapes are considered, and it is assumed that the cytoskeletal structures exert an extensional axial force and are involved in controlling the area of the cell boundary. The dependence of cell shapes on the axial force is presented for different values of this area. The results show that, at increasing axial force, the cell undergoes a discontinuous transition from an oval shape, exhibiting an equatorial mirror symmetry into a polar shape. The proposed mechanism is related to previously documented specific effects of microtubule- and actin-modifying drugs on polar shapes of developing isolated retinal photoreceptor cells. Summary A simple procedure is described for the in vitro production of tobacco (Nicotiana tabacum L.) pollen from microspores isolated just before entering mitosis. During a 3-day culture period in a liquid medium containing pyrimidine nucleosides these microspores develop into young pollen grains to the stage of starch deposition. Pollen maturation and transition to dormancy is achieved during a further 2- to 3-day culture period in the same medium stepwise supplemented by a concentrated solution of sucrose and l-proline. Upon transfer of the pollen to a simple germination medium containing sucrose and boric acid, up to 40% of the grains were observed to produce relatively long tubes. The in vitro-matured pollen grains can be stored at-20° C either suspended in 1.17 M sucrose and 100 mM l-proline or separated from the medium on filter paper discs. The stored pollen germinated both in vitro and on the stigma, the pollen tubes grew through the style into the ovary and pollination produced up to 300 viable seeds per pod. The procedure is of interest for pollen developmental studies and various fields of pollen manipulation, such as in vitro pollen selection.  相似文献
