Synthesis of Alkyl Glycerolipids with Functional Groups in Their Polar Heads

A number of alkyl glycerolipids with short-chain substituents at the C2 atom of glycerol and functional groups (carboxy and amino) in the polar head were synthesized. Cationic alkyl glycerolipids with a hydroxyl function in the hydrophilic moiety were also obtained.     

The Synthesis of Cationic Glycerolipid Acetals Containing Aliphatic and Heterocyclic Bases

1,3-Dioxolane series cationic lipids containing residues of aliphatic or heterocyclic nitrogenous bases were synthesized. The bases were attached to the glycerol backbone either directly (piperazine) or via a spacer group through a thioether bond.     

Restriction map of maxicircle kinetoplastic DNA of Leishmania gymnodactyli

Kinetoplast DNA (kDNA) of Leishmania gymnodactyli, as in other Trypanosoma species, is a complicated associate consisting of mini- and maxicircular molecules. Minicircular DNA are presented by the homogeneous in size and heterogeneous in base sequence population. Their size determined by the agarose electrophoretic mobility in gel is 920 pairs of nucleotides. Maxicircular molecules of DNA are homogeneous and contains about 38 thou pairs of nucleotides. The restriction map of maxicircular kDNA molecule of L. gymnodactyli has been made up on the basis of the cleavage data of the whole associate kDNA by restrictases.     

Kinetoplast DNA of Crithidia oncopelti. Recognition of the principles of structural organization of minicircular DNA molecules

The heterogeneity of the kinetoplast minicircular DNAs from Crithidia oncopelti was studied by electron microscopy and restriction analysis. The associate of kinetoplast DNA comprises five main classes of minicircles sizing 0.42, 0.51, 0.62, 0.78 and 0.83 microns. Examination of cleavage patterns revealed that each class of the minicircles is heterogeneous in base sequence, but there are restriction fragments of the same size common for all these classes. A model of structural arrangement of minicircles of Crithidia oncopelti was proposed. This model is based on the block structure of minicircular molecules. Each minicircle is composed of one variable block (V-block), 810 base pairs, and from 1 to 4 more conservative blocks (C-blocks) each containing 445 base pairs.     

Vortex electron dynamics in a high-current plasma lens

An analytic study is made of the following problems: the instability of a plasma against the excitation of vortex turbulence, the turbulence saturation amplitude, the types and spatial structures of the nascent vortices, and their nonlinear growth rates in an electrostatic plasma lens for focusing high-current ion beams.     

Mechanism of the antistressor effect of D-Ala(2)-Leu(5)-Arg(6)-enkephalin

It has been shown that the stable analog of leu-enkephalin diminishes to a great extent the stress-induced changes in the blood content of ACTH, cortisol, hypophyseal-thyroid hormones, the CAMP level in the adrenal and thymic tissues of white rats. It is assumed that this circumstance may interfere with depletion of the adrenal cortex and suppression of the lymphoid-macrophagal system.
