Norian-Rhaetian reefs in Argolis Peninsula,Greece   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
Summary Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic shallow-water carbonate sequences of the ‘Pantokrator limestones’ are widely distributed in the Argolis Peninsula, southern Greece. Within this sequence are some reef or reefal structures. In the Mavrovouni Mountains, near Sarmeika, 6 km SE of the ancient theatre of Epidavros (Argolis Peninsula), a Norian-Rhaetian reef complex has been identified. This is the first well-documented Norian-Rhaetian reef in Greece. The main reef builders are coralline sponges (‘sphinctozoans,’ ‘inozoans’, and sclerosponges), followed by dendroid, cerioid, and solitary corals, and algae. The reef type corresponds to a ‘sponge-coral reef’.  相似文献

Molecular clocks are routinely tested for linearity using a relative rate test and routinely calibrated against the geological time scale using a single or average paleontologically determined time of divergence between living taxa. The relative rate test is a test of parallel rate equality, not a test of rate constancy. Temporal scaling provides a test of rates, where scaling coefficients of 1.0 (isochrony) represent stochastic rate constancy. The fossil record of primates and other mammals is now known in sufficient detail to provide several independent divergence times for major taxonomic groups. Molecular difference should scale negatively or isochronically (scaling coefficients less than 1.0) with divergence time: where two or more divergence times are available, molecular difference appears to scale positively (scaling coefficient greater than 1.0). A minimum of four divergence times are required for adequate statistical power in testing the linear model: scaling is significantly nonlinear and positive in six of 11 published investigations meeting this criterion. All groups studied show some slowdown in rates of molecular change over Cenozoic time. The break from constant or increasing rates during the Mesozoic to decreasing rates during the Cenozoic appears to coincide with extraordinary diversification of placental mammals at the beginning of this era. High rates of selectively neutral molecular change may be concentrated in such discrete events of evolutionary diversification.   相似文献

The centipede genus Eupolybothrus Verhoeff, 1907 in North Africa is revised. A new cavernicolous species, Eupolybothruskahfi Stoev & Akkari, sp. n., is described from a cave in Jebel Zaghouan, northeast Tunisia. Morphologically, it is most closely related to Eupolybothrusnudicornis (Gervais, 1837) from North Africa and Southwest Europe but can be readily distinguished by the long antennae and leg-pair 15, a conical dorso-median protuberance emerging from the posterior part of prefemur 15, and the shape of the male first genital sternite. Molecular sequence data from the cytochrome c oxidase I gene (mtDNA-5' COI-barcoding fragment) exhibit 19.19% divergence between Eupolybothruskahfi and Eupolybothrusnudicornis, an interspecific value comparable to those observed among four other species of Eupolybothrus which, combined with a low intraspecific divergence (0.3-1.14%), supports the morphological diagnosis of Eupolybothruskahfi as a separate species. This is the first troglomorphic myriapod to be found in Tunisia, and the second troglomorph lithobiomorph centipede known from North Africa. Eupolybothrusnudicornis is redescribed based on abundant material from Tunisia and its post-embryonic development, distribution and habitat preferences recorded. Eupolybothruscloudsley-thompsoni Turk, 1955, a nominal species based on Tunisian type material, is placed in synonymy with Eupolybothrusnudicornis. To comply with the latest technological developments in publishing of biological information, the paper implements new approaches in cybertaxonomy, such as fine granularity XML tagging validated against the NLM DTD TaxPub for PubMedCentral and dissemination in XML to various aggregators (GBIF, EOL, Wikipedia), vizualisation of all taxa mentioned in the text via the dynamically created Pensoft Taxon Profile (PTP) page, data publishing, georeferencing of all localities via Google Earth, and ZooBank, GenBank and MorphBank registration of datasets. Harmonic tension–compression tests at 0.1, 0.5 and 1 Hz on hydrated bovine periodontal ligament (PDL) were numerically simulated. The process was modeled by finite elements (FE) within the framework of poromechanics, with the objective of isolating the contributions of the solid- and fluid phases. The solid matrix was modeled as a porous hyperelastic material (hyperfoam) through which the incompressible fluid filling the pores flowed in accordance with the Darcy’s law. The hydro-mechanical coupling between the porous solid matrix and the fluid phase circulating through it provided an apparent time-dependent response to the PDL, whose rate of deformation depended on the permeability of the porous solid with respect to the interstitial fluid. Since the PDL was subjected to significant deformations, finite strains were taken into account and an exponential dependence of PDL permeability on void ratio – and therefore on the deformation state – was assumed. PDL constitutive parameters were identified by fitting the simulated response to the experimental data for the tests at 1 Hz. The values thus obtained were then used to simulate the tests at 0.1 and 0.5 Hz. The results of the present simulation demonstrate that a porohyperelastic model with variable permeability is able to describe the two main aspects of the PDL’s response: (1) the dependency on strain-rate—the saturated material can develop volumetric strains by only exchanging fluid and (2) the asymmetry between tension and compression, which is due to the effect of both the permeability and the elastic properties on deformation.  相似文献

Immunological therapy of progressive tumors requires not only activation and expansion of tumor specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTLs), but also an efficient effector phase including migration of CTLs in the tumor tissue followed by conjugation and killing of target cells. We report the application of an agent-based model to recapitulate both the effect of a specific immunotherapy strategy against B16-melanoma in mice and the tumor progression in a generic tissue section. A comparison of the in silico results with the in vivo experiments shows excellent agreement. We therefore use the model to predict a critical role for CD137 expression on tumor vessel endothelium for successful therapy and other mechanistic aspects. Experimental results are fully compatible with the model predictions. The biologically oriented in silico model derived in this work will be used to predict treatment failure or success in other pre-clinical conditions eventually leading new promising in vivo experiments.  相似文献

Duckweeds as crop plants Members of the plant family Lemnaceae (duckweeds) are not only interesting because they represent the smallest flowering plants; they possess also the fastest rates of producing biomass. As aquatic plants, duckweed production is not in competition with other agricultural crops that require fertile land while the cultivation of duckweeds does not contribute to further eutrophication of surface water. Instead, they can be cultivated on municipal or agricultural waste water and remove the nutrients during their propagation and growth. Duckweeds can thus be used for cleaning of waste water and the resulting biomass can be valuable starting material for animal feeds and the production of biofuels. Research focusing on these goals has begun to transfer from research laboratories to pilot plants in different parts of the world, e.g. in New Jersey and North Carolina, USA; Chengdu, P. R. The classic myotonic dystrophy, Steinert’s disease (DM1) was first described in 1909, and the second type, Ricker’s disease (DM2), in 1994. In 1992 the disease-causing mutation in DM1 was identified as a CTG repeat in the DMPK gene on chromosome 19q, and in 2001 the DM2 mutation was identified as a CCTG repeat expansion in the ZNF9 gene on chromosome 3q. Multisystemic symptoms of the diseases affect skeletal muscle, brain, eye, heart, and the endocrine system. The pathogenesis of both forms seems to be based on a gain-of-function RNA mechanism and on alterations in RNA metabolism and spliceopathy. Our review focuses on clinical features, diagnostic techniques, and new aspects of molecular pathogenesis and therapy.  相似文献
