This communication is pivoted to the sensing of fluids by the use of nanoengineered thin films comprised of copper nano-helixes as well as copper nano-rods, in order to study the comparison of the performance of thin films having different morphological features. For this purpose, human blood samples having different concentrations of haemoglobin are taken into account as measurands. The sensing configuration exploits the use of nanostructured metallic thin films grown over glass substrate with the void regions filled up with measurands, and the features of absorption spectra are monitored. Two different wavelengths are used along with two different values of helix pitch angle as well as slanting angle of nano-rods, and the focus is put on the effect due to these parameters on the sensing characteristics. It is observed that in the case of nano-helix structured films, pitch angle affects spectral characteristics obtained due to the generation of plasmonic waves at the interface of two partnering mediums. Upon comparing the obtained results with those corresponding to thin films comprised of slanted copper nano-rods (having different angles of inclination), it has been found that the nano-helix embedded films provide better appreciable results than those exhibited by the columnar thin films, thereby making the former kind of nanostructured mediums more useful in sensing-related applications. 相似文献

The emergence of antibiotic-resistant and food-spoilage microorganisms has renewed efforts to identify safe and natural alternative agents of antibiotics such as probiotics. The aim of this study was the isolation of lactobacilli as potential probiotics from local dairy products with broad antibacterial and anti-biofilm activities against antibiotic-resistant strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and determination of their inhibition mechanism. Antibiotic susceptibility and classification of acquired resistance profiles of 80 P. aeruginosa strains were determined based on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) new definition as multidrug-resistant (MDR), extensively drug-resistant (XDR), and pan-drug-resistant (PDR) followed by antibacterial assessment of lactobacilli against them by different methods. Among the 80 P. aeruginosa strains, 1 (1.3%), 50 (62.5%), and 78 (97.5%) were PDR, XDR, and MDR, respectively, and effective antibiotics against them were fosfomycin and polymyxins. Among 57 isolated lactobacillus strains, two strains which were identified as Lactobacillus fermentum using biochemical and 16S rDNA methods showed broad inhibition/killing and anti-biofilm effects against all P. aeruginosa strains. They formed strong biofilms and had bile salts and low pH tolerance. Although investigation of inhibition mechanism of these strains showed no bacteriocin production, results obtained by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) analysis indicated that their inhibitory effect was the result of production of three main organic acids including lactic acid, acetic acid, and formic acid. Considering the broad activity of these two L. fermentum strains, they can potentially be used in bio-control of drug-resistant strains of P. aeruginosa. 相似文献

Background:This study aims to evaluate the effect of Letrozole (LE) in reducing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) in high-risk participants with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) treated with In vitro fertilization (IVF).Methods:This study was a randomized clinical trial in which participants were randomly divided into two groups (n= 25 per group). Based on GnRH-antagonist protocol, recombinant follicle-stimulating hormone 150 units/day subcutaneously and human menopausal gonadotropin 75 units/ day intramuscularly used from day 2 of the menstrual cycle. In the study group, Letrozole 5 mg daily was added simultaneously with gonadotropin during the first five days of the IVF cycle and in the control group placebo was added.Results:There were statistically significant differences among the groups in terms of Estradiol level on Trigger Day (p= 0.04). The total days of stimulation and cumulative Gonadotropin dose were significantly lower in the Letrozole group (p= 0.00). There were no significant differences between the groups in terms of the number of oocytes retrieved, numbers of implanted embryos, and clinical pregnancy rates (p-value> 0.05). There was only one moderate case in the intervention group and 9 moderate symptoms in the control group (p= 0.04).DiscussionAdministration of Letrozole with GnRH antagonist protocol, conventional protocol in PCOS cases in IVF cycle, had a significant effect on reducing the incidence of OHSS. So, if the future studies prove LE co-administration may lessen the incidence of OHSS, LE will be a highly potent drug for preventing OHSS in PCOS cases.Key Words: In vitro fertilization, Infertility, Letrozole, Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome 相似文献

Preeclampsia remains a leading cause of maternal and perinatal mortality and morbidity worldwide; however, its specific etiology still remains obscure. Some studies implicate poor maternal selenium status predisposing the mother to preeclampsia. This study was designed to determine changes in plasma selenium levels in women having preeclampsia as compared with those with normal pregnancy. In a nested case–control study, 650 normal primigravida in their first 24–28 weeks participated in the study. After 3 months of follow-up of all subjects, blood selenium levels were measured in 38 women presenting consecutively with preeclampsia and in 38 women having a normal pregnancy by atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Birth outcomes were recorded, such as gestational age at delivery, height, weight, birth head circumflex and 1-min Apgar score. Preeclampsia affects about 5.84 % of pregnancies, and in our study, there were no significant differences in age, anthropometric indices, and family history of preeclampsia between the preeclamptic and control groups. The selenium concentrations in plasma in women with preeclampsia were significantly lower as compared with those in women with normal pregnancy (70.63?±?21.41 versus 82.03?±?15.54 μg/L, p?<?0.05). Being in the bottom tertile of selenium concentration (less than 62.2 μg/L) was associated with greater risk of preeclampsia in pregnant women. The reduced selenium in the maternal circulations observed in the preeclamptic mothers support the hypothesis that insufficient selenium concentration may be a contributing factor to the pathophysiological mechanisms associated with preeclampsia, and optimizing the dietary selenium intake through supplementation could produce demonstrable clinical benefits. 相似文献

In this paper, a rough silver core-shell nanoparticle with strong electric field enhancement in the vicinity of a bumpy structure on the silver core-shell surface is reported. A dipolar plasmonic mode of the silver nanoshell is investigated by using the quasi-static approach and plasmon hybridization theory, which analytical results identify the electric field enhancement spectra in which the enhancement is optimized. As the silver shell thickness is small, the hot spots play an important role in the plasmonic field enhancement. In addition, the deposition of a rough silver shell can generate a stronger near-field enhancement near the silver surface which is more desirable than that of a smooth silver shell for sensitive detection based on SPR and surface enhanced Raman scattering (SERS). The plasmonic field enhancement of a bumpy silver core-shell nanoparticle permits the detection and characterization of bovine serum albumin (BSA) protein molecule and hemoglobin solution with a high sensitivity. 相似文献
