Background
The resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta, because of its efficacy and feasibility, has been widely used in treating patients with severe torso trauma. However, complications developing around the site proximal to the occlusion by resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta have almost never been studied.Case presentation
A 50-year-old Japanese woman fell from a height of approximately 10 m. At initial arrival, her respiratory rate was 24 breaths/minute, her blood oxygen saturation was 95% under 10 L/minute oxygenation, her pulse rate was 90 beats per minute, and her blood pressure was 180/120 mmHg. Mild lung contusion, hemopneumothorax, unstable pelvic fracture, and retroperitoneal bleeding with extravasation of contrast media were observed in initial computed tomography. As her vital signs had deteriorated during computed tomography, a 7-French aortic occlusion catheter (RESCUE BALLOON®, Tokai Medical Products, Aichi, Japan) was inserted and inflated for aortic occlusion at the first lumbar vertebra level and transcatheter arterial embolization was performed for the pelvic fracture. Her bilateral internal iliac arteries were embolized with a gelatin sponge; however, the embolized sites presented recanalization as coagulopathy appeared. Her bilateral internal iliac arteries were re-embolized by n-butyl-2-cyanoacrylate. The balloon was deflated 18 minutes later. After embolization, repeat computed tomography was performed and a massive hemothorax, which had not been captured on arrival, had appeared in her left pleural cavity. Thoracotomy hemostasis was performed and a hemothorax of approximately 2500 ml was aspirated to search for the source of bleeding. However, clear active bleeding was not captured; resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta may have been the cause of the increased bleeding of the thoracic injury at the proximal site of the aorta occlusion.Conclusions
It is necessary to note that the use of resuscitative endovascular balloon occlusion of the aorta may increase bleeding in sites proximal to occlusions, even in the case of minor injuries without active bleeding at the initial diagnosis.23.

analysis of metabolites of benzothiophene by this strain, benzothiophene sulfone, benzo[e][1,2]oxathiin S-oxide and o-hydroxystyrene were detected, suggesting that the benzothiophene desulfurization pathway of this strain is benzothiophene
→ benzothiophene sulfoxide → benzothiophene sulfone → benzo[e][1,2]oxathiin S-oxide →o-hydroxystyrene. Desulfurization activity of this strain was significantly repressed by methionine, cysteine, sulfate, dimethyl
sulfoxide, and Casamino acids.

Cheek-pouch dispersal of seeds by Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata yakui) on Yakushima Island, Japan
Seed dispersal by Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata yakui) via cheek-pouch was studied in a warm temperate evergreen forest on Yakushima Island. Plant list was compiled based on a
study during 1986–1995, of which troops of monkeys have been habituated without artificial feeding. We followed the well-habituated
monkeys in 1993 and 1994 to observe the feeding behavior and their treatments of fruits and seeds, and collected seeds dispersed
by monkeys to record the distance carried from the mother trees. We checked the difference of germination ratio between seeds
dispersed via cheek-pouch and seeds taken from mother trees by sowing experiments. Seeds and acorns of 22 species were observed
to be dispersed via cheek-pouch of monkeys. Among them, three species with acorns were never dispersed via feces, and 15 species
with drupes were seldom dispersed via feces. Plant species of which seeds are dispersed only via cheek-pouch had larger seeds
than those of dispersed both via cheek-pouch and via feces, and typically had only one or two seeds in a fruit. As for one
of cheek-pouch dispersal species,Persea thunbergii, the mean distance when seeds were carried from the mother trees via cheek-pouch was 19.7 m, and the maximum distance was
as long as 105 m although more than 80% of seeds were dispersed within 30 m from mother trees. And 82% of seeds dispersed
via cheek-pouch germinated. The easy separation of seeds from other parts of the fruit seems to facilitate cheek-pouch dispersal
more than dispersal via feces. Cheek-pouch dispersal by monkeys has possibly enhanced the natural selection for larger seeds
which bring forth larger seedlings with high shade-tolerance. In conclusion, cheek-pouch dispersal by monkeys is quite an
important mode for trees in the mature stand in a warm temperate evergreen forest on Yakushima Island. 相似文献

A sensitive and specific method is described for the quantitative analysis of 6,11-dihydro-11-oxo-dibenz[b,e]oxepin-3-acetic acid (oxepinac) in human plasma, urine and saliva. Oxepinac and internal standard are extracted from acidified plasma, urine or saliva, converted to the corresponding n-propyl esters and analysed by gas chromatography—mass fragmentography using selected ion monitoring. The method is accurate and precise over the range 100 μg/ml to 1.0 ng/ml. ACh-induced depolarization (D response) in D cells markedly decreases as the external Na+ is reduced. However, when Na+ is completely replaced with Mg++, the D response remains unchanged. When Na+ is replaced with Tris(hydroxymethyl)aminomethane, the D response completely disappears, except for a slight decrease in membrane resistance. ACh-induced hyperpolarization (H response) in H cells is markedly depressed as the external Cl- is reduced. Frequently, the reversal of the H response; i.e., depolarization, is observed during perfusion with Cl--free media. In cells which show both D and H responses superimposed, it was possible to separate these responses from each other by perfusing the cells with either Na+-free or Cl--free Ringer's solution. High [K+]0 often caused a marked hyperpolarization in either D or H cells. This is due to the primary effect of high [K+]0 on the presynaptic inhibitory fibers. The removal of this inhibitory afferent interference by applying Nembutal readily disclosed the predicted K+ depolarization. In perfusates containing normal [Na+]0, the effects of Ca++ and Mg++ on the activities of postsynaptic membrane were minimal, supporting the current theory that the effects of these ions on the synaptic transmission are mainly presynaptic. The possible mechanism of the hyperpolarization produced by simultaneous perfusion with both high [K+]0 and ACh in certain H cells is explained quantitatively under the assumption that ACh induces exclusively an increase in Cl- permeability of the H membrane. 相似文献

The dibenzothiophene (DBT) desulfurizing operon, dsz, was introduced into various benzothiophene (BT)-desulfurizing bacteria using a Rhodococcus-E. coli shuttle vector. Of the tested recombinant bacteria, only those from Rhodococcus sp. strain T09 grew with both DBT and BT as the sole sulfur source. These recombinant cells desulfurized not only alkylated BTs, but also various alkylated DBTs, producing alkylated hydroxybiphenyls as the desulfurized products. Recombinant strain T09 also desulfurized alkylated DBT in an oil-water, two-phase resting-cell reaction. The dsz operon had the same desulfurizing activity when inserted into the vector in either orientation, indicating that the promoter region of the operon was functional in strain T09. 相似文献

Rhodococcus erythropolis IGTS8 that possesses dibenzothiophene sulfone monooxygenase mutated at residue 345 (Q345A), can degrade octyl sulfide on which the wild strain cannot grow. Residue 345 and the neighbouring residues were changed by site-directed mutagenesis. Only DszA changed at residue 345 gave an altered C-S bond cleavage pattern of 3-methyl DBT sulfone. This residue is therefore involved in C-S bond cleavage specifically for alkylated DBT sulfone. 相似文献
