The fine structure of the heart and connective tissue sheath surrounding the stomach of the brachiopod Rhynchonella psittacea has been studied. The stomach wall is lined externally with peritoneal epithelium. Between the bases of the peritoneal epithelial cells and those of the stomach epithelial cells is an extracellular amorphous matrix. The exterior part of the matrix is occupied by smooth muscle cells and the interior part by fibroblasts. The heart wall shows continuity with the peritoneal epithelium covering the stomach wall and consists of three layers: an outer layer of smooth myoepithelial and epithelial cells, an intermediate thick layer of extracellular matrix, and an inner discontinuous layer of fibroblasts. In myoepithelial cells, nucleated heads protruding freely into the coelom and contractile parts embedded in the extracellular matrix can easily be distinguished. These cells contain no sarcoplasmic reticulum or any elements of a T system. The epithelial cells are non-muscular mononucleated cells scattered among the myoepithelial cells and closely associated with these basally. They possess a well-developed rough endoplasmic reticulum. In rare cases, a small amount of myofibrils occurs basally in the epithelial cells. Morphologically the epithelial cells in the myocardium are very similar to the peritoneal epithelial cells covering the stomach wall. Both epithelial and myoepithelial cells are ciliated. No nerve elements have been found in the brachiopod heart. The structure of the brachiopod heart is compared with that of other invertebrates; similarity of cellular composition of the brachiopod heart and stomach cover is considered evidence of origin of the heart cells from the cells of the connective tissue sheath of the stomach. In a study on the impact of chlamydial infection on host cell apoptosis, C. trachomatis were shown to protect host cell against staurosporin-induced apoptosis only at the middle stage of infection development (at 20 hours post infection), C. pneumoniae--at different stages of its growth cycle (from 2 to 7 day post infection). We found, that C. trachomatis elementary bodies fail to inhibit staurosporin-induced apoptotic stimuli. The clear antiapoptotic effect of cell lysate filtrate, infected with C. trachomatis, was demonstrated by cytometric analysis and luminescent microscopy. Our findings make it possible to use biochemical approach to identification of chlamydial antiapoptotic factors in future. Investigations directed at chlamydial antiapoptotic activities may aim to create the therapies of chronic chlamydial infection.  相似文献

On a model of experimental pneumonia in mice caused by the L-forms of bacteria against the background of diminished immunity a study was made of the therapeutic efficacy of penicillin, lincomycin, lysozyme and gamma-globulin. Lincomycin, particularly in combination with biologically-active preparations, proved to be expedience for the treatment and prophylaxis of pneumonia caused by the mentioned bacteria; a rapid arrest of pneumonic process occurred and more animals survived. In the greater percentage of cases the use of penicillin was accompanied by generalization of the process.  相似文献

We investigated possible healing effects of melatonin (MEL) on biochemical and histological changes in the lungs of rat offspring caused by exposure to nicotine (NT) in utero. Pregnant rats were divided randomly into five groups. The SP group was treated with physiological saline. The EA group was treated with ethyl alcohol. The MEL group was treated with MEL. The NT group was treated with NT. The NT + MEL group was treated with NT and MEL. At the end of the study, the biochemistry and histopathology of lung tissue of the offspring were examined. Reduced alveolar development and increased numbers of alveolar macrophages and mast cells were observed in the NT group compared to the SP, EA and MEL groups. We also found increased malondialdehyde (MDA) levels and decreased total glutathione (GSH) levels in the NT group. Application of MEL ameliorated the histological and biochemical damage caused by NT. The number of alveoli was greater in the NT + MEL group than in the NT group. Also, the increased numbers of alveolar macrophages and mast cells resulting from exposure to NT were decreased following MEL treatment. We found that MEL caused a significant decrease in the level of MDA. Maternal exposure to NT caused significant structural and biochemical changes in the lungs of the offspring and administration of MEL ameliorated the changes.  相似文献
