Comparative mineral and hormonal analyses were made on tissue culture derived truncated leaf syndrome and wild type oil palm seedlings. Mineral analysis confirmed that Boron, Zinc and chlorophyll levels were significantly lower in truncated leaf syndrome leaves than those of wild type. Hormonal analysis also revealed various cytokinin derivatives such as trans-zeatin, trans-zeatin riboside, trans-zeatin O-glucoside and trans-zeatin riboside 5??mono phosphate were significantly higher in truncated leaf syndrome leaves compared to wild type leaves. Brassinolide level was also significantly higher in truncated leaf syndrome leaves than those of the wild type. These observations suggest that the truncated leaf syndrome abnormality could be associated to high cytokinin and brassinosteroid production which affects the uptake of Boron and Zinc.  相似文献

Glycine transporter from rat brain stem and spinal cord is inactivated by specific sulfhydryl reagents. Modification of lysine residues also promotes a decrease of the transporter activity but in a lesser extent than that promoted by thiol group reagents. Mercurials showed a more marked inhibitory effect than maleimide derivatives. SH groups display a similar reactivity for p-chloromercuribenzenesulfonate (pCMBS) and mersalyl in synaptosomal membrane vesicles and proteoliposomes reconstituted with the solubilized transporter. However, different reactivity is observed with N-ethylmaleimide (MalNEt), the greatest effect being attained in membrane vesicles. The rate of inactivation by pCMBS and MalNEt is pseudo-first-order showing time- and concentration-dependence. pCMBS and MalNEt decrease the Vmax for glycine transport and to a lesser extent act on the apparent Km. Treatment with dithiothreitol (DTT) of the transporter modified by pCMBS results in a complete restoration of transporter activity indicating that the effect exercised by the reagent is specific for cysteine residues on the protein. It is concluded that SH groups are involved in the glycine transporter function and that these critical residues are mostly located in a relatively hydrophilic environment of the protein.  相似文献

Tool use in humans can be optional, that is, the same person can use different tools or no tool to achieve a given goal. Strategies to reach the same goal may differ across individuals and cultures and at the intra‐individual level. This is the first experimental study at the intra‐individual level on the optional use of a tool in wild nonhuman primates. We investigated optional tool use by wild bearded capuchins (Sapajus libidinosus) of Fazenda Boa Vista (FBV; Piauí, Brazil). These monkeys habitually succeed in cracking open the mesocarp of dry cashew nuts (Anacardium spp.) by pounding them with stones and/or by biting. We assessed whether availability of a stone and resistance of the nut affected capuchins' choice to pound or to bite the nuts and their rates of success. Sixteen capuchins (1–16 years) received small and large dry cashew nuts by an anvil together with a stone (Stone condition) or without a stone (No‐Stone condition). In the Stone conditions, subjects used it to crack the nut in 89.1% (large nuts) and 90.1% (small nut) of the trials. Nut size significantly affected the number of strikes used to open it. Availability of the stone significantly increased the average percent of success. In the No‐Stone conditions, monkeys searched for and used other percussors to crack the nuts in 54% of trials. In all conditions, age affects percentage of success and number of strikes to reach success. We argue that exclusive use of stones in other sites may be due to the higher abundance of stones at these sites compared with FBV. Since capuchins opened cashews with a tool 1–2 years earlier than they succeed at cracking more resistant palm nuts, we suggest that success at opening cashew nuts with percussors may support the monkeys' persistent efforts to crack palm nuts.  相似文献

The antigen-antibody interaction occurring previous to the triggering of the immunological response is analyzed as a relational process in terms of lattices. Accordingly, this process is expressed as a lattice belonging to a pseudo-Boolean algebraic variety. The Heyting arrow operation, which appears in this kind of algebra, is used to analyze behaviors between non-comparable biological states expressed by the lattice.
