The composition in segregated haploid sets of paternal and maternal chromosomes has been studied in order to verify whether their composition is uniparental of mixed, fixed or variable. Primary cultures where prepared using kidneys from hybrids of strains of Mus musculus in which the parental chromosomes are distinguishable; the maternal set consists of 20 teleocentric chromosomes, the paternal set of 9 metacentric chromosomes, derived by Robertsonian fusion and 2 telocentrics. Applying Seabright's banding technique, an analysis of segregated haploid and diploid cells, which have originated spontaneously through polyploidisation-segregation processes was carried out. It was concluded that the haploid sets have a variable composition of paternal and maternal chromosomes. 相似文献

Summary We have incorporated into planar lipid bilayer membranes a voltage-dependent, anion-selective channel (VDAC) obtained fromParamecium aurelia. VDAC-containing membranes have the following properties: (1) The steady-state conductance of a many-channel membrane is maximal when the transmembrane potential is zero and decreases as a steep function of both positive and negative voltage. (2) The fraction of time that an individual channel stays open is strongly voltage dependent in a manner that parallels the voltage dependence of a many-channel membrane. (3) The conductance of the open channel is about 500 pmho in 0.1 to 1.0m salt solutions and is ohmic. (4) The channel is about 7 times more permeable to Cl– than to K+ and is impermeable to Ca++. The procedure for obtaining VDAC and the properties of the channel are highly reproducible.VDAC activity was found, upon fractionation of the paramecium membranes, to come from the mitochondria. We note that the published data on mitochondrial Cl– permeability suggest that there may indeed be a voltage-dependent Cl– permeability in mitochondria.The method of incorporating VDAC into planar lipid bilayers may be generally useful for reconstituting biological transport systems in these membranes. 相似文献

A variant clone of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells resistant to thialysine has been isolated. It maintains the phenotypic properties even after 250 generations in medium without thialysine. Growth rate, cell viability and protein synthesis rate of the variant are much less affected by thialysine than the parental strain. Task partitioning is the decomposition of a task into two or more sub-tasks that can be tackled separately. Task partitioning can be observed in many species of social insects, as it is often an advantageous way of organizing the work of a group of individuals. Potential advantages of task partitioning are, among others: reduction of interference between workers, exploitation of individuals?? skills and specializations, energy efficiency, and higher parallelism. Even though swarms of robots can benefit from task partitioning in the same way as social insects do, only few works in swarm robotics are dedicated to this subject. In this paper, we study the case in which a swarm of robots has to tackle a task that can be partitioned into a sequence of two sub-tasks. We propose a method that allows the individual robots in the swarm to decide whether to partition the given task or not. The method is self-organized, relies on the experience of each individual, and does not require explicit communication between robots. We evaluate the method in simulation experiments, using foraging as testbed. We study cases in which task partitioning is preferable and cases in which it is not. We show that the proposed method leads to good performance of the swarm in both cases, by employing task partitioning only when it is advantageous. We also show that the swarm is able to react to changes in the environmental conditions by adapting the behavior on-line. Effective coordination is key to many situations that affect the well-being of two or more humans. Social coordination can be studied in coordination games between individuals located on networks of contacts. We study the behavior of humans in the laboratory when they play the Stag Hunt game – a game that has a risky but socially efficient equilibrium and an inefficient but safe equilibrium. We contrast behavior on a cliquish network to behavior on a random network. The cliquish network is highly clustered and resembles more closely to actual social networks than the random network. In contrast to simulations, we find that human players dynamics do not converge to the efficient outcome more often in the cliquish network than in the random network. Subjects do not use pure myopic best-reply as an individual update rule. Numerical simulations agree with laboratory results once we implement the actual individual updating rule that human subjects use in our laboratory experiments. 相似文献

The engineering of large-scale decentralised systems requires sound methodologies to guarantee the attainment of the desired macroscopic system-level behaviour given the microscopic individual-level implementation. While a general-purpose methodology is currently out of reach, specific solutions can be given to broad classes of problems by means of well-conceived design patterns. We propose a design pattern for collective decision making grounded on experimental/theoretical studies of the nest-site selection behaviour observed in honeybee swarms (Apis mellifera). The way in which honeybee swarms arrive at consensus is fairly well-understood at the macroscopic level. We provide formal guidelines for the microscopic implementation of collective decisions to quantitatively match the macroscopic predictions. We discuss implementation strategies based on both homogeneous and heterogeneous multiagent systems, and we provide means to deal with spatial and topological factors that have a bearing on the micro-macro link. Finally, we exploit the design pattern in two case studies that showcase the viability of the approach. Besides engineering, such a design pattern can prove useful for a deeper understanding of decision making in natural systems thanks to the inclusion of individual heterogeneities and spatial factors, which are often disregarded in theoretical modelling. 相似文献
