Interactions between Plants and Epiphytic Bacteria Regarding Their Auxin Metabolism VI. The Influence of the Epiphytic Bacteria on the Content of Extractable Auxin in the Plant

Sterile plants of maize, pea, and cucumber contain less auxin (extracted with methanol or ether) than nonsterile ones. The auxin content is restored within one day by reinfecting sterile plants (or only the shoots, with roots and culture medium remaining sterile) with epiphytic bacteria strains able to produce IAA or with soaking water of nonsterile seeds. Reinfection with bacteria, strains unable to produce IAA is ineffective. — The possibility of a bacterial auxin production during methanol extraction was excluded.     

Differents aspects du fer dans l'organisme : II. Différentes formes de l'hémosidérine

On voit des molécules de ferritine apparaitre dans le cytoplasme des cellules réticulaires au cours de la digestion des érythrocytes, autour des stromas phagocytés. Cette ferritine s'accumule en amas dans lesquels entrent d'autres substances, en particulier des lipides, provenant aussi des stromas globulaires et qui apparaissent sous forme myélinique. Souvent la ferritine se dispose d'une manière cristalline. Parfois la ferritine et l'apoferritine alternent dans ces cristaux. Parfois l'hémosidérine contient des cristaux qui semblent bien être de l'apoferritine pure. L'injection de sels de fer donne lieu à l'apparition de ferritine dans les cellules réticulaires. Dans les conditions de nos expériences, la plus grande partie du fer injecté était sous forme de ferritine dans un délai de 3 jours. Un aspect intermédiaire entre celui du fer injecté et celui de la ferritine a été trouvé. Dans le cas des injections de saccharate de fer ce sont de fines aiguilles; dans le cas des injections de lactate de fer, il s'agit de masses fibreuses.

Rat monoclonal antibodies to human apolipoprotein B: advantages and applications

Eight monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) to human serum low density lipoprotein (LDL) were derived from the fusion of spleen cells, from LOU rats immunized with human LDL, and the rat myeloma line IR983F. These Mabs were characterized in terms of isotype, specificity, and affinity. Competitive experiments indicated that the epitopes that were recognized could be grouped into three patterns depending on their apparent affinity for apoB-containing lipoprotein particles such as LDL, very low density lipoproteins (VLDL), or intermediate density lipoproteins (IDL). Six epitopes have been mapped in relation to elements of the sequence of apolipoprotein B-100 (apoB-100) and some have been assigned to the middle part of the median thrombolytic fragment T3, a region not yet well targeted by mouse Mabs. The presence of lipids for the expression of the epitopes was studied and confirmed a lipid dependence for epitopes that are close to the T2/T3 cleavage site. The capacity of binding to the LDL receptor was also tested; among the Mabs we described, one inhibited the uptake and degradation of LDL to HeLa cells receptor. Finally, some antibodies were able to precipitate LDL in gel.     

Ferritin H gene polymorphism in idiopathic hemochromatosis

Summary We have analysed karyotypes and DNA from three patients with aniridia (congenital absence of irises) and Wilms' tumour. All three had constitutional deletions from the short arm of chromosome 11. The minimum region of overlap of the deletion involves a small region of band 11p13 presumed to contain the genetic loci responsible for both phenotypic abnormalities. Using cells from these patients, somatic cell hybrids with transformed mouse cells have been prepared. Individual subclones retaining either the deletion-11 chromosome or the normal chromosome 11, in addition to a variety of other human chromosomes, have been identified. The relative position of these breakpoints have been determined and the panel of hybrids has been used to map randomly-isolated 11p13 DNA sequences. The characterisation of these deletions has provided a useful panel of hybrids for random mapping strategies designed to identify the Wilms' and aniridia genes.
