To investigate the relationship between genetic composition and some physiological traits of interest (age at smoltification, precocious maturation in male parr) in early and late first feeding Atlantic salmon, genetic variation at 6 isozyme and 8 microsatellite loci was examined. Early and late first feeding salmon showed different allelic and genotypic distributions at both isozyme and microsatellite loci. A positive relation between enzymatic loci heterozygosity and precocious active alimentation and earlier smoltification (S1 cf. S2) were also found.  相似文献

One year after a left posterior and thalamic stroke, a 52-year-old male participant was treated with 14 weeks of theta reduction neurofeedback training. Imaging studies revealed left temporal, parietal, occipital, and bilateral thalamic infarctions along the distribution of the posterior cerebral artery. Neuropsychological testing demonstrated severe verbal memory, naming, visual tracking, and fine motor deficits. Additionally, alexia without agraphia was present. A pretraining quantitative electroencephalograph (QEEG) found alpha attenuation, lack of alpha reactivity to eye opening, and excessive theta activity from the left posterior head region. Neurofeedback training to inhibit 4–8 Hz theta activity was conducted for 42 sessions from left hemisphere sites. Over the course of the training, significant reductions in theta amplitude occurred from the training sites as assessed from the postsession baseline periods. Posttraining, a relative normalization of the QEEG was observed from the left posterior head region.  相似文献

Summary Expression of uncase (urate oxidase) fromChlamydomonas reinhardtii has been investigated by using specific polyclonal antibodies. By Western blot analyses performed under nondenaturing conditions, a 124 kDa protein band corresponding to active uricase was detected in protein extracts from cells cultured with urate or nitrogen-starved cells. This protein band was absent in cells cultured with ammonium. Besides the 124 kDa band, the antibodies also reacted with a massive protein band, with an apparent molecular mass of 500 kDa, that was detected in all nutritional conditions assayed. In vitro, inactive uricase from cells grown with ammonium was activated by incubation in presence of urate. The appearance of uricase activity in vitro coincided with a decrease of the 500 kDa protein and an increase of the 124 kDa band corresponding to the active enzyme. We suggest that a posttranslational regulation of uricase synthesis takes place inC. reinhardtii, and that urate may be responsible for the assembly or maturation of inactive precursors to form the active uricase.  相似文献

Abstract. A field experiment involving herbivore exclusion, ploughing, and the combination of both was carried out over a period of 4 - 5 yr in Mediterranean grasslands located along an elevational gradient. The empirical results provide a general hierarchical framework for understanding patterns of plant species diversity in thesegrasslands. In grazed grasslands, plant species density decreased as altitude increased, and this pattern was maintained through time. The reduced seasonality along the climatic gradient is suggested as the extrinsic, indirect control factor. Ploughing caused species loss, but after 4 yr the original diversity was recovered in most grasslands. Our hypothesis is that a negative feedback mechanism regulates species increase towards a characteristic level. A trend of species density reduction was observed in ungrazed grasslands. Plant-herbivore interaction is considered to be essential for maintaining species diversity in grazed grasslands and for the recovery of diversity in mechanically disturbed grasslands.  相似文献

The H1 gene from Solanum tuberosum ssp. andigena confers high levels of resistance to the potato cyst nematode Globodera rostochiensis and is used extensively in potato breeding. Using a dihaploid segregating population, a search was conducted for linkage between this gene and markers on the potato/tomato RFLP map. A total of 60 RFLP markers covering the entire genome were screened on bulk resistant and susceptible segregants. Linkage was indicated for eight markers on chromosome 5. Individual plant analysis placed the closest marker, CD78, at a maximum map distance of 2.7 cM from H1. A molecular marker for the H1 should be useful both as a correlative screening tool for incorporation of resistance into new cultivars and as starting point for map-based cloning of this important gene.  相似文献

Aging biology entails a cell/tissue deregulated metabolism that affects all levels of biological organization. Therefore, the application of “omic” techniques that are closer to phenotype, such as metabolomics, to the study of the aging process should be a turning point in the definition of cellular processes involved. The main objective of the present study was to describe the changes in plasma metabolome associated with biological aging and the role of sex in the metabolic regulation during aging. A high-throughput untargeted metabolomic analysis was applied in plasma samples to detect hub metabolites and biomarkers of aging incorporating a sex/gender perspective. A cohort of 1030 healthy human adults (45.9% females, and 54.1% males) from 50 to 98 years of age was used. Results were validated using two independent cohorts (1: n = 146, 53% females, 30–100 years old; 2: n = 68, 70% females, 19–107 years old). Metabolites related to lipid and aromatic amino acid (AAA) metabolisms arose as the main metabolic pathways affected by age, with a high influence of sex. Globally, we describe changes in bioenergetic pathways that point to a decrease in mitochondrial β-oxidation and an accumulation of unsaturated fatty acids and acylcarnitines that could be responsible for the increment of oxidative damage and inflammation characteristic of this physiological process. Furthermore, we describe for the first time the importance of gut-derived AAA catabolites in the aging process describing novel biomarkers that could contribute to better understand this physiological process but also age-related diseases.  相似文献

The dynamics of oligotrophic pastures were analyzed in the area of El Pardo (Central Spain), and related with geomorphological features and time elapsed since the last ploughing. A sampling of the area was carried out regarding these two factors. The data were subjected to correspondence analysis, which showed the progressive replacement of species related to succession, variation along slopes, with a tight interaction between both phenomena.The correspondence between vegetation change and slope geomorphology is closer as succession progresses.Authoritics for species names are meationed in Table 1.  相似文献

Anl-amino-acid oxidase (EC 1.4.3.1) that catalyzes the oxidative deamination of twelvel-amino acids has been purified 21-fold and with 14% yield to electrophoretic homogeneity fromChlamydomonas reinhardtii cells by ammonium-sulfate fractionation, gel filtration through Sephacryl and Superose, anion-exchange chromatography and preparative electrophoresis in polyacrylamide gels. The native enzyme is a protein of 470 kDa and consists of eight identical or similarsized subunits of 60 kDa each. Optimum pH and temperature were 8.2 and 55° C, respectively, with a Q10 (45–55° C) of 1.7 and an activation energy of 45 kJ · mol–1. Its absorption spectrum showed, in the visible region, maxima at 360 and 444 nm, characteristic of a flavoprotein with a calculated flavin content of 7.7 mol FAD per mol of native enzyme. ApparentK m values of the twelvel-amino acids which can act as substrates ofl-amino-acid oxidase ranged between 31 M for phenylalanine and 176 M for methionine. The effect of several specific group reagents, chelating agents and bivalent cations on enzyme activity has also been studied.This work was supported by Grant 780-CO2-01 from CICYT, Spain. Peroxisome proliferator-activated receptors (PPARs) are nuclear receptors which are activated by fatty acids and derivatives. The PPAR alpha form has been shown to mediate the action of the hypolipidemic drugs of the fibrate class on lipid and lipoprotein metabolism. PPAR alpha activators furthermore improve glucose homeostasis and influence body weight and energy homeostasis. It is likely that these actions of PPAR alpha activators on lipid, glucose and energy metabolism are, at least in part, due to the increase of hepatic fatty acid beta-oxidation resulting in an enhanced fatty acid flux and degradation in the liver. Moreover, PPARs are expressed in different immunological and vascular wall cell types where they exert anti-inflammatory and proapoptotic activities. The observation that these receptors are also expressed in atherosclerotic lesions suggests a role in atherogenesis. Finally, PPAR alpha activators correct age-related dysregulations in redox balance. Taken together, these data indicate a modulatory role for PPAR alpha in the pathogenesis of age-related disorders, such as dyslipidemia, insulin resistance and chronic inflammation, predisposing to atherosclerosis.  相似文献
