Nearly all soft tissues, among which the vascular tissue is included, present a certain degree of viscoelastic response. This behaviour may be attributed in part to fluid transport within the solid matrix, and to the friction between its fluid and solid constituents. After being preconditioned, the tissue displays highly repetitive behaviour, so that it can be considered pseudo-elastic, that is, elastic but behaving differently in loading and unloading. Because of this reason, very few constitutive laws accounting for the viscoelastic behaviour of the tissue have been developed. Nevertheless, the consideration of this inelastic effect is of crucial importance in surgeries—like vascular angioplasty—where the mentioned preconditioning cannot be considered since non-physiological deformation is applied on the vessel which, in addition, can cause damage to the tissue. A new constitutive formulation considering the particular features of the vascular tissue, such as anisotropy, together with these two inelastic phenomena is presented here and used to fit experimental stress–stretch curves from simple tension loading–unloading tests and relaxation test on porcine and ovine vascular samples. 相似文献

During a study carried out on the subfamily Exogoninae (Syllidae) from Australia, several specimens of a new genus and species were found in samples of dead coral substrate from Western Australia. They have long palps, fused except for a terminal notch, long median and two short lateral antennae, a single pair of short tentacular cirri, and short dorsal cirri, somewhat longer than the parapodial lobes. These characters resemble those of the genus Exogone Örsted, 1845. However, all these appendages are articulated. The chaetae are very similar to those of several species of Syllis Lamarck, 1818, having coarse spines on the margin of compound chaetal blades and truncated dorsal simple chaetae. Furthermore, the pharynx begins in chaetiger 3, posterior to the peristomium, as in many species of the genus Syllis; this condition does not occur in any described species of Exogone. The new genus is provisionally proposed to belong to the subfamily Syllinae, although it has some characters typical of the Exogoninae. Examination under the SEM shows another peculiar feature, the nuchal organs are distinctly laterally located. Within the Syllinae, only Paratyposyllis Hartmann-Schröder, 1962 has a single pair of tentacular cirri, but in that genus, the palps are only basally fused. 相似文献

MOTIVATION: The study of genetic regulatory networks has received a major impetus from the recent development of experimental techniques allowing the measurement of patterns of gene expression in a massively parallel way. This experimental progress calls for the development of appropriate computer tools for the modeling and simulation of gene regulation processes. RESULTS: We present Genetic Network Analyzer (GNA), a computer tool for the modeling and simulation of genetic regulatory networks. The tool is based on a qualitative simulation method that employs coarse-grained models of regulatory networks. The use of GNA is illustrated by a case study of the network of genes and interactions regulating the initiation of sporulation in Bacillus subtilis. Distinct types of immune responses are activated by infections, which cause the development of type I, II, or III inflammation, regulated by Th1, Th2, Th17 helper T cells and ILC1, ILC2 and ILC3 cells, respectively. While the classification of immune responses to different groups of pathogens is widely accepted, subtypes of the immune response elicited by sterile inflammation have not yet been detailed. Necroinflammation is associated with the release of damage-associated molecular patterns (DAMP) from dying cells. In this review, we present that the distinct molecular mechanisms activated during apoptosis, necroptosis, pyroptosis, and ferroptosis lead to the release of different patterns of DAMPs and their suppressors, SAMPs. We summarize the currently available data on how regulated cell death pathways and released DAMPs and SAMPs direct the differentiation of T helper and ILC cells. Beta electrocorticographic rhythms (30-45 Hz) develop during focused immobile attention within two distinct foci in cats. A multiple electrode exploration was performed, followed by post-mortem histological analysis, to determine the precise localization of these foci. Electrode tips recording beta rhythms in the waking attentive cat were located: in motor areas (Brodmann's areas 4 and 6), in a band extending from the postcruciate cortex to the walls of the presylvian sulcus, crossing the frontal pole (anterior beta focus); in the posterior parietal associative area 5a, along the divisions of the ansate sulcus (posterior beta focus). The two foci are separated by somatic areas 3, 2 and 1, where beta rhythms were never recorded. The location of the posterior focus may suggest that area 5 is, in the cat as it is in the monkey, involved in motor control. 相似文献

The alternating climate between wet and dry periods has important effects on the hydrology and therefore on niche-based processes of water bodies in tropical areas. Additionally, assemblages of microorganism can show spatial patterns, in the form of a distance decay relationship due to their size or life form. We aimed to test spatial and environmental effects, modulated by a seasonal flooding climatic pattern, on the distribution of microalgae in 30 wetlands of a tropical dry forest region: the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and Nicaragua. Three surveys were conducted corresponding to the beginning, the highest peak, and the end of the hydrological year during the wet season, and species abundance and composition of planktonic and benthic microalgae was determined. Variation partitioning analysis (as explained by spatial distance or environmental factors) was applied to each seasonal dataset by means of partial redundancy analysis. Our results show that microalgal assemblages were structured by spatial and environmental factors depending on the hydrological period of the year. At the onset of hydroperiod and during flooding, neutral effects dominated community dynamics, but niche-based local effects resulted in more structured algal communities at the final periods of desiccating water bodies. Results suggest that climate-mediated effects on hydrology can influence the relative role of spatial and environmental factors on metacommunities of microalgae. Such variability needs to be accounted in order to describe accurately community dynamics in tropical coastal wetlands. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to assess whether endogenous Ang II and oxidative stress produced by acute hypertonic sodium overload may regulate the expression of aquaporin-1 (AQP-1) and aquaporin-2 (AQP-2) in the kidney. Groups of anesthetized male Sprague–Dawley rats were infused with isotonic saline solution (control) or with hypertonic saline solution (Na group, 1 M NaCl), either alone or with losartan (10 mg kg?1) or tempol (0.5 mg min?1 kg?1) during 2 h. Renal function parameters were measured. Groups of unanesthetized animals were injected intraperitoneally with hypertonic saline solution, with or without free access to water intake, Na+W, and Na?W, respectively. The expression of AQP-1, AQP-2, Ang II, eNOS, and NF-kB were evaluated in the kidney by Western blot and immunohistochemistry. AQP-2 distribution was assessed by immunofluorescence. Na group showed increased natriuresis and diuresis, and Ang II and NF-kB expression, but decreased eNOS expression. Losartan or tempol enhanced further the diuresis, and AQP-2 and eNOS expression, as well as decreased Ang II and NF-kB expression. Confocal immunofluorescence imaging revealed labeling of AQP-2 in the apical plasma membrane with less labeling in the intracellular vesicles than the apical membrane in kidney medullary collecting duct principal cells both in C and Na groups. Importantly, our data also show that losartan and tempol induces a predominantly accumulation of AQP-2 in intracellular vesicles. In unanesthetized rats, Na+W group presented increased diuresis, natriuresis, and AQP-2 expression (112?±?25 vs 64?±?16; *p?<?0.05). Water deprivation increased plasma sodium and diuresis but decreased AQP-2 (46?±?22 vs 112?±?25; §p?<?0.05) and eNOS expression in the kidney. This study is a novel demonstration that renal endogenous Ang II–oxidative stress, induced in vivo in hypernatremic rats by an acute sodium overload, regulates AQP-2 expression. 相似文献
