Biosorptive removal of cadmium from contaminated groundwater and industrial effluents 总被引:4,自引:0,他引:4
The cadmium removing capacity of a biosorbent Calotropis procera, a perennial wild plant, is reported here. The biomass was found to possess high uptake capacity of Cd(II). Adsorption was pH dependent and the maximum removal was obtained at two different pH i.e. pH 5.0 and 8.0. Maximum biosorption capacity in batch and column mode was found to be 40 and 50.5 mg/g. The adsorption equilibrium (> or =90% removal) was attained within 5 min irrespective of the cadmium ion concentration. Interfering ions viz. Zn(II), As(III), Fe(II), Ni(II) interfered only when their concentration was higher than the equimolar ratio. The Freundlich isotherm best explained the adsorption, yet the monolayer adsorption was also noted at lower concentrations of Cd(II). The FTIR analysis indicates the involvement of hydroxyl (-OH), alkanes (-CH), nitrite (-NO(2)), and carboxyl group (-COO) chelates in metal binding. The complete desorption of the cadmium was achieved by 0.1M H(2)SO(4) and 0.1M HCl. The C. procera based Cd(II) removal technology appears feasible. 相似文献

High irradiance (HI) effects on xanthophyll cycle pigments (XCP) and activity of violaxanthin de-epoxidase (VDE) in terms of de-epoxidation index (DEI) were studied in soybean calli. The calli from the hypocotyl segments of 5-d seedlings were induced on a solid (1.1 % agar) MS medium (pH 5.8) supplemented with 4.52 M 2,4-dichloro-phenoxyacetic acid, 2.32 M kinetin, and 3 % sucrose. After a 30 d cultivation, the green calli were irradiated for 24 h with white light (HI, 1 300 mol m–2 s–1) and VDE was isolated from the photosystem 2 (PS2) particles. In the control (0 h irradiation) callus, the reaction of PS2 particles with VDE in the presence or absence of Tween 20 resulted in the decrease of VIO content and the increase of ZEA content. In the 24 h HI-callus, the reaction of PS2 particles in the absence of VDE led to the decrease of VIO and ANT contents and increase of ZEA content. In the control, DEIs in the presence of VDE with or without 0.1 %Tween 20 (1.04 and 1.06, respectively) were significantly higher than the DEI (0.76) in the absence of VDE. Agarose hydrogels filled with cellulose nanowhiskers were strained in uniaxial stretching under different humidity conditions. The orientation of the cellulose whiskers was examined before and after testing with an X-ray laboratory source and monitored in situ during loading by synchrotron X-ray diffraction. The aim of this approach was to determine the process parameters for reorienting the cellulose nanowhiskers toward a preferential direction. Results show that a controlled drying of the hydrogel is essential to establish interactions between the matrix and the cellulose nanowhiskers which allow for a stress transfer during stretching and thereby promote their alignment. Rewetting of the sample after reorientation of the cellulose nanowhiskers circumvents a critical increase of stress. This improves the extensibility of the hydrogel and is accompanied by a further moderate alignment of the cellulose nanowhiskers. Following this protocol, cellulose nanowhiskers with an initial random distribution can be reoriented toward a preferential direction, creating anisotropic nanocomposites. 相似文献
