A new species of the genus Cirrhimuraena (Anguilliformes: Ophichthidae), Cirrhimuraena indica sp. nov., is described based on eight specimens collected from the Paradip (Odisha) and Petuaghat harbours (West Bengal) along the Bay of Bengal. The species is distinct in having the upper jaw fringed with 16–17 cirri before posterior nostril and 4–5 in between the anterior and posterior nostrils on the side; dorsal fin originates above the level of gill opening, predorsal length is 9.3–10.9 in total length; the head is relatively large, the length is 9.3–9.8 in total length; no infraorbital pores are observed between the nostrils; teeth are numerous, small, conical and in bands on each jaw; pores are present before the gill opening 10–11 and before anus 47–48; pectoral-fin length is 2.4–2.8 in head length; predorsal vertebrae are 8–10, pre-anal vertebrae 43–47 and total vertebrae 164–169. In the maximum likelihood tree analysis for COI gene, the new species belongs to the same clade as the other congener of Cirrhimuraena chinensis and is separated from the species morphologically and genetically. 相似文献

The sequence of myostatin gene (growth differentiation factor 8 [GDF 8]) in Indian riverine buffalo (Bubalus bubalis) is reported. The genomic DNA as well as mRNA were sequenced. The sequence is conserved across all the livestock species. Five nonsynonymous changes as compared to cattle were found in this study and were also confirmed by mRNA sequence. The present study aims to understand the existing genetic diversity and structure of six native cattle breeds (Rathi, Tharparkar, Nagori, Mewati, Gir, and Kankrej) adapted to the north-western arid and semi-arid region of India based on microsatellite loci. Various diversity estimates, mean number of alleles (12.84); effective number of alleles (5.02); gene diversity (0.769), and observed heterozygosity (0.667) reflected the existence of substantial within-breed diversity in all the investigated cattle breeds. Mean estimates of F-statistics: FIT = 0.144 ± 0.023, FIS = 0.071 ± 0.021, and FST = 0.078 ± 0.014 were significantly different from zero (P < 0.05). The interbreed relationships indicated moderate level of breed differentiation between the six cattle breeds with least differentiation between Kankrej-Mewati pair. The phylogeny structuring further supported close grouping of Kankrej and Mewati breeds. Correspondence analysis plotted Rathi, Tharparkar, and Gir individuals into three separate areas of multivariate space; whereas, Kankrej, Mewati, and Nagori cattle showed low breed specific clustering. This reflected the existence of discrete genetic structure for Tharparkar, Rathi, and Gir, the prominent dairy breeds of the region; whereas, admixture was observed for Kankrej, Mewati, and Nagori individuals. 相似文献

The present study was designed to investigate the existence of slow and fast developing individuals and to evaluate their effect on reproductive attributes of Parthenium beetle, Zygogramma bicolorata Pallister (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae); a biocontrol agent of Parthenium weed. Significantly different rates of development were found in a cohort of the beetle. Under constant rearing conditions, the emergence ratio of slow and fast developers was determined to be 0.47 and 0.53, respectively. Males developed faster than females, and significant differences in development were found among all immature stages and total developmental period. Slow developing females laid higher numbers of eggs with a higher percentage egg viability than fast developing females. This is the first attempt of such a study for the Parthenium beetle, and provides great insight into Parthenium beetle development for evolutionary biologists, improving our understanding of their ecological thresholds. The information could help in the selection of fast developing lines and thus in the mass multiplication of this bioagent. 相似文献

Effect of long term cholesterol diet withdrawal on accelerated atherosclerosis in iliac artery of New Zealand White (NZW) rabbits has not been explored so far. Atherosclerosis was thus induced in rabbits by a combination of balloon injury and atherogenic diet (AD) (1% cholesterol and 6% peanut oil) feeding for 8 weeks (baseline) followed by chow diet (CD) feeding for 4, 8, 16, 32, 50 and 64 weeks. The plaque characterization was done using histology, real time RT-PCR and vasoreactivity studies. Significant elevation in plasma lipids with AD feeding was normalized following 16 weeks of CD feeding. However, baseline comparison showed advanced plaque features even after 8 weeks of CD period with significant elevation in intima/media thickness ratio and plaque area later showing reduction at 50 and 64 weeks CD periods. Lesion lipid accumulation and CD68 positivity was maintained till 16 weeks of CD feeding which significantly reduced from 32 to 64 weeks CD periods. Baseline comparison showed significant increase in ground substance, MMP-9 and significant decrease in α-actin and collagen content at 8 weeks CD period indicating features of unstable plaque. These features regressed up to 64 weeks of CD. Partial restoration of functional vasoconstriction and vasorelaxation was seen after 64 weeks of CD feeding. mRNA expression of MCP-1, VCAM-1, collagen type I and III, MMP-9, TIMP-1, IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-10 and eNOS supported the above findings. The study thus reveals insights into initial plaque instability and subsequent regression on AD withdrawal in this model. These results are suggestive of an appropriate window for drug intervention for plaque stability/regression and restenosis as well as improves understanding of plaque regression phenomenon in this model. 相似文献

Silver nanoparticles (Ag-NPs) are known to have inhibitory and fungicidal effects. Resistance against fungal infection has emerged as a major health problem in recent years, which needs great and immediate concern. Here, we report the extracellular biological synthesis of silver nanoparticles through a simple green route approach using a marine mangrove (Rhizophora mucronata) and silver nitrate. Aqueous extract of marine mangrove helped in reduction and was used as capping agent in biological synthesis. Nanoparticles were characterized using microscopy and spectroscopy techniques such as HRTEM, UV–Vis absorption spectroscopy and FTIR spectroscopy. X-ray diffraction analysis showed that the nanoparticles had face centered cubic structure with crystalline nature. FTIR spectroscopy showed the presence of different functional groups, such as hydroxyl and carbonyl, involved in the synthesis of nanoparticles. The antifungal activity of fluconazole and itraconazole was enhanced against the tested pathogenic fungi in the presence of Ag-NP and confirmed from increase in fold area of inhibition. This environmentally friendly method of biological synthesis can be easily integrated for various medical applications. 相似文献

Abstract Chemical entities targeting kinase signalling pathways serve as a potential strategy to combat malignancies. Protein Kinase B or Akt is a validated target for various malignancies and Akt3 remains the least explored isoform among all its isoforms. Initially, homology modelling technique was used for generating protein structure and further validation was performed using molecular dynamics simulation and Ramachandran plot. The validated protein structure was then subjected for active site analysis which led to identification of active site residues based on metrics provided by site score. The important residues in binding site were identified as Thr81, Asp271 and Asp289 for binding energetics and inhibition. Subsequently, virtual screening methodologies were used for identification of novel hits for inhibition of Protein Kinase B or Akt3. This led to the identification of two hits, i.e. thiophene derivative and thieno-pyridine derivative which were selected on the basis of their binding affinity and drug likeliness. These identified hits were subjected for molecular dynamics simulations, quantum mechanical and synthetic accessibility studies. AbstractFungal infections cause several metabolic changes to the plants, which can affect its physiology and survival in various ways. In the present study, we have analysed various phenolic compounds and activity of oxidative enzymes in healthy and Sclerotium rolfsii-infected groundnut genotypes. Increased phenolics content and higher activity of oxidative enzymes was observed in the tolerant genotype (CS 19, GG 16) followed by susceptible genotype (GG 20, TG 37A). Among the phenolic compounds tested, chlorogenic acid content has increased greatly in leaf, stem and root of infected tolerant genotypes compared to the respective controls. In vitro growth of S. rolfsii showed significant inhibition at concentrations 500 and 1000 µg/mL of phenolic compounds in the radial growth inhibition assay. These results have strongly suggested that, higher accumulation of chlorogenic acid could be an important factor in imparting resistance and protecting groundnut against S. rolfsii infection in tolerant genotypes. 相似文献

A marine bacterial strain identified as Vibrio parahaemolyticus by 16S rRNA gene (HM355955) sequencing and gas chromatography (GC) coupled with MIDI was selected from a natural biofilm by its capability to produce extracellular polymeric substances (EPS). The EPS had an average molecule size of 15.278 μm and exhibited characteristic diffraction peaks at 5.985°, 9.150° and 22.823°, with d-spacings of 14.76661, 9.29989 and 3.89650 Å, respectively. The Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) spectrum revealed aliphatic methyl, primary amine, halide groups, uronic acid and saccharides. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GCMS) confirmed the presence of arabinose, galactose, glucose and mannose. 1HNMR (nuclear magnetic resonance) revealed functional groups characteristic of polysaccharides. The EPS were amorphous in nature (CIxrd 0.092), with a 67.37% emulsifying activity, thermostable up to 250°C and displayed pseudoplastic rheology. MALDI-TOF–TOF analysis revealed a series of masses, exhibiting low-mass peaks (m/z) corresponding to oligosaccharides and higher-mass peaks for polysaccharides consisting of different ratios of pentose and hexose moieties. This is the first report of a detailed characterisation of the EPS produced by V. parahaemolyticus, which could be further explored for biotechnological and industrial use. 相似文献
