The aim of this paper is to evaluate and compare broadleaved cattail (Typha latifolia L.) biomass production and the nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) content in phytomass in three treatment wetland systems and to propose suitable areas for treatment wetlands in Estonia for raw material production. The biomass samples (roots/rhizomes, shoots with leaves and spadixes) and litter were collected from 1 m × 1 m plots—15 plots in the Tänassilma semi-natural wetland, 15 plots in the Põltsamaa free water surface (FWS) constructed wetland (CW), and 10 plots in the Häädemeeste FWS CW. The average aboveground biomass of T. latifolia varied from 0.37 to 1.76 kg DW m?2 in autumn and from 0.33 to 1.38 kg DW m?2 in winter. The greatest average nitrogen (22,950 mg N kg?1) concentration was found in spadixes in 2002, and the phosphorus (6500 mg P kg?1) concentration was measured in roots–rhizomes in 2003. Average standing stock of nitrogen and phosphorus was higher in aboveground than belowground phytomass. In FWS CWs with high hydraulic and nutrient loadings, however, the harvesting of aboveground biomass is not an effective means for the removal of nutrients. Cattail biomass is a valuable insulation material, whereas the fibre from spadixes mixed with clay gives elasticity to clay plasters. According to our estimates, about 5412 km2 could be used for Typha cultivation in Estonia. 相似文献

The possibility of enhancing the denitrification of a newly established LECA-based horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) soil filter receiving pretreated wastewater from a vertical flow filter was studied. The pilot-scale experiment offers evidence regarding the survival and reproduction of introduced microbes taken from an LECA-based HSSF constructed wetland (CW) that has similar internal conditions, after bioaugmentation into newly established LECA-based HSSF CW mesocosms. Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGPS) is a rare premature aging disorder that belongs to a group of conditions called laminopathies which affect nuclear lamins. Mutations in two genes, LMNA and ZMPSTE24, have been found in patients with HGPS. The p.G608G LMNA mutation is the most commonly reported mutation. The aim of this work was to compile a comprehensive literature review of the clinical features and genetic mutations and mechanisms of this syndrome as a contribution to health care workers. This review shows the necessity of a more detailed clinical identification of Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome and the need for more studies on the pharmacologic and pharmacogenomic approach to this syndrome. 相似文献

Freshwater crayfish invasions have been studied around the world, but less so in Africa, a continent devoid of native freshwater crayfish. The present study reviews historical and current information on alien freshwater crayfish species introduced into South Africa and aims to indicate which areas are at risk from invasion. As is the case elsewhere, South Africans have shown a keen interest in both farming and keeping freshwater crayfish as pets, which has resulted in Cherax cainii, Cherax destructor, Cherax quadricarinatus and Procambarus clarkii being introduced to the country. There is evidence of successful establishment in the wild for C. quadricarinatus and P. clarkii in different parts of the country. Species distribution models suggest that the eastern part of the country and parts of the Eastern and Western Cape are at higher risk of invasion. At present, illegal translocations represent the most likely pathway of crayfish spread in South Africa. A continued risk of invasion by freshwater crayfish species in South Africa is highlighted, which reinforces the need for more research, as well as for strong mitigation measures, such as stronger policing of existing regulations, management or eradication where feasible and public education. 相似文献

Heterodisulfide reductase (Hdr) is a unique disulfide reductase that plays a key role in the energy metabolism of methanogenic archaea. Two types of Hdr have been identified and characterized from distantly related methanogens. Here we show that the sulfate-reducing archaeon Archaeoglobus profundus cultivated on H2/sulfate forms enzymes related to both types of Hdr. From the membrane fraction of A. profundus, a two-subunit enzyme (HmeCD) composed of a b-type cytochrome and a hydrophilic iron-sulfur protein was isolated. The amino-terminal sequences of these subunits revealed high sequence identities to subunits HmeC and HmeD of the Hme complex from A. fulgidus. HmeC and HmeD in turn are closely related to subunits HdrE and HdrD of Hdr from Methanosarcina spp. From the soluble fraction of A. profundus a six-subunit enzyme complex (Mvh:Hdl) containing Ni, iron-sulfur clusters and FAD was isolated. Via amino-terminal sequencing, the encoding genes were identified in the genome of the closely related species A. fulgidus in which these genes are clustered. They encode a three-subunit [NiFe] hydrogenase with high sequence identity to the F420-nonreducing hydrogenase from Methanothermobacter spp. while the remaining three polypeptides are related to the three-subunit heterodisulfide reductase from Methanothermobacter spp. The oxidized enzyme exhibited an unusual EPR spectrum with gxyz = 2.014, 1.939 and 1.895 similar to that observed for oxidized Hme and Hdr. Gibberellins (GAs) were identified and quantified during flower and fruit development in the Christmas rose (Helleborus niger L.), a native of southeastern Europe with a long international horticultural tradition. Physiologically, the plant differs from popular model species in two major respects: (1) following anthesis, the initially white or rose perianth (formed in this species by the sepals) turns green and persists until fruit ripening, and (2) the seed is shed with an immature embryo, a miniature endosperm, and a prominent perisperm as the main storage tissue. GA1 and GA4 were identified by full-scan mass spectra as the major bioactive GAs in sepals and fruit. LC-MS/MS system in accord with previously verified protocols also afforded analytical data on 12 precursors and metabolites of GAs. In the fruit, GA4 peaked during rapid pericarp growth and embryo development and GA1 peaked during the subsequent period of rapid nutrient accumulation in the seeds and continued pericarp enlargement. In the sepals, the flux through the GA biosynthetic pathway was highest prior to the light green stage when the photosynthetic system was induced. Unfertilized, depistillated, and deseeded flowers became less green than the seed-bearing controls; chlorophyll accumulation could be restored by applying GA1, GA4, and, less efficiently, GA3 to the deseeded fruit. The sepals of unfertilized and depistillated flowers indeed contained very low levels of GA4 and gradually decreasing levels of GA1. However, the concentrations of their precursors and metabolites were less affected. These data suggest that a signal(s) from the fruit stimulates GA biosynthesis in the sepals resulting in greening.
