Human herpesvirus type 1 (HHV-1) is widely dispersed among the human population. Although infection is often asymptomatic in humans, nonhuman primates develop a severe and often fatal infection. In August 2006, 13 black-tufted marmosets (Callithrix penincillata) from a group of 14 presented with clinical apathy, anorexia, and ataxia. Physical examination revealed conjunctivitis, erosive or ulcerative lesions on the skin, and swollen lymph nodes. Of the 14 animals captured, 10 died. Grossly, ulcers and erosions were observed on the skin of face, nasal planum, lips, and oral mucosa. Histologically, superficial vesicular and erosive stomatitis with associated basophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies in the squamous epithelium were observed. Swabs from oral lesions and tissue samples from necropsied animals were positive for HHV-1 by nested polymerase chain reaction for eight animals. 相似文献

The matrinx?, Brycon amazonicus, is one of the main species being used for aquaculture and fishery activities in the Amazonian region, yet little is known about the parasites that cause its diseases. The present study monitored parasite fauna infesting an intensive husbandry system in a stream channel. The collections were carried out monthly from September, 1997 to January, 1998. Water quality parameters, fish removal procedures, as well as biometry and anaesthetic data were observed in order to monitor the management conditions. Of the 80 sampled fish, 71 (89%) were infested with four Monogenoidea species (Anacanthorus spiralocirrus, Jainus amazonensis, Tereancistrum kerri and Trinibaculum brazilensis), 12 (15%) one of Nematoda Spirocamallanus inopinatus, and three (3.75%) with the Copepoda Ergasilus bryconis. Monogenoidea presented the highest prevalence and intensity of infestation. The Kruskall-Wallis non-parametric variance analysis showed a significant difference (P < 0.05) in the monthly parasite indexes of A. spiralocirrus, J. amazonensis and T. brazilensis, however no significant difference (P > or = 0.05) was detected for T. kerri. Evaluation of the management conditions pointed out that monthly capture anaesthesia and hauling procedures may have been responsible for some of the clinical signals such as loss of scales, erosion and no pigments on the caudal fin and cornea opacity, which were the most frequently found injuries in husbandry. 相似文献

This study aimed to evaluate the use of conventional polymerase chain reaction (cPCR)
and real-time quantitative PCR (qPCR) in the diagnosis of human strongyloidiasis from
stool samples in tropical areas. Stool samples were collected from individuals and
were determined to be positive for Strongyloides stercoralis (group I), negative for
S. stercoralis (group II) and positive for other enteroparasite species (group III).
DNA specific to S. stercoralis was found in 76.7% of group I samples by cPCR and in
90% of group I samples by qPCR. The results show that molecular methods can be used
as alternative tools for detecting S. stercoralis in human stool samples in tropical

Neurodegeneration is a prominent feature of lysosomal storage disorders (LSDs). Emerging data identify autophagy dysfunction in neurons as a major component of the phenotype. However, the autophagy pathway in the CNS has been studied predominantly in neurons, whereas in other cell types it has been largely unexplored. We studied the lysosome-autophagic pathway in astrocytes from a murine model of multiple sulfatase deficiency (MSD), a severe form of LSD. Similar to what was observed in neurons, we found that lysosomal storage in astrocytes impairs autophagosome maturation and this, in turn, has an impact upon the survival of cortical neurons and accounts for some of the neurological features found in MSD. Thus, our data indicate that lysosomal/autophagic dysfunction in astrocytes is an important component of neurodegeneration in LSDs. 相似文献

Mucormycosis is a rare invasive mycotic infection treated by antifungini or amphotericin B. We describe the case of a patient with septic fever and a necrotic lesion, with phlegmon of medial left thigh. Surgery was performed to drain the abscess content and to remove the necrotic tissue; mucormycosis was diagnosized by histological and culture tests and treated by intravenous amphotericin B. Since the lesion worsened, liposomal amphotericin B was directly infused into the left common iliac artery, with progressive improvement, and treatment was continued until complete recovery. Therefore, the endoarterial infusion of liposomal amphotericin B was a safe and successful treatment of advanced lesions of mucormycosis. In such lesions, intravenous general antibiotic administration probably is not sufficient to reach the whole infected area. 相似文献

New complexes with the general formula [RE(TPC)3 · (H2O)2], where RE=Eu3+, Sm3+, Gd3+, Tb3+ and TPC=2-thiophenecarboxylate, have been prepared and investigated by photoluminescence spectroscopy. These compounds were characterized by complexometric titration, elemental analyses and infrared spectroscopy. The X-ray crystal structure has been determined for the [Eu(TPC)3 · (H2O)2] compound, indicating that this complex is in dimeric form bridged by two carboxylate ions with monoclinic crystal system and space group P21/n. The coordination polyhedron can be described as a distorted square antiprism, where six oxygen atoms belong to the TPC ligand and two oxygen atoms belong to the water molecules, with site symmetry close to C2v. The theoretical value of the intensity parameter , which is in agreement with the experimental one, indicates that the Eu3+ ion is in a highly polarizable chemical environment. Based on the luminescence spectra, the energy transfer from the ligand triplet state (T) of TPC to the excited levels of the Eu3+ ion is discussed. The emission quantum efficiency of the 5D0 emitting level of the Eu3+ ion was also determined. In the case of the Tb3+ ion, the photoluminescence data show the high emission intensity of the characteristic transitions 5D4 → 7FJ (J=0-6), indicating that the TPC ligand is a good sensitizer. It is also noticed that the complexes with the Eu3+ and Tb3+ ions are more luminescent than the complex with the Sm3+ ion. 相似文献

In this study, a new host record for Dadaytrema oxycephala (Digenea: Cladorchiidae) is described from an important Amazonian ornamental fish. The parasite was identified based in the general morphology and surface ultrastructure of the young and mature trematodes using scanning electron microscopy. The digenetic trematodes were found in the intestine of 15 of 80 specimens (18.7%) of Brochis multiradiatus captured from two floodplain lakes of the Amazonas River, Department of Loreto, Peru and no clinical signs were observed in the parasitized organ. This is the first report of D. oxycephala parasitizing fish of the genus Brochis in the Amazon basin and the first to report this parasite infection in an ornamental fish from Peru. Given that international trade of ornamental fish is a major factor for transboundary spreading of fish parasites and taking account that Peru is the second largest exporter of the Amazonian countries, there is a fundamental need of constant monitoring for diagnosis and timely control of infections by digeneans in order to better prevent introduction in new environments, dissemination and future disease outbreaks. 相似文献

Patterns of chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) variation
were studied in 378 populations of oak trees sampled throughout the
southern half of France. Six cpDNA haplotypes detected in a previous
European survey and three new cpDNA haplotypes were found in this region.
Two mitochondrial polymorphisms detected earlier by restriction analysis of
PCR-amplified fragments alone, or in combination with single-strand
conformation polymorphism (SSCP), were compared with the cpDNA data.
Sequencing revealed the nature of the two mitochondrial mutations: a
single-base substitution and a 4-bp inversion associated with a 22-bp
hairpin secondary structure. The single-base substitution was then analyzed
by allele-specific amplification. Results for the two cytoplasmic genomes
were combined, which allowed the identification of 12 cpDNA-mtDNA
haplotypes. The 4-bp mtDNA inversion has appeared independently in
different cpDNA lineages. Given the peculiar nature of this mtDNA mutation,
we suggest that intramolecular recombination leading to repeated inversions
of the 4-bp sequence (rather than paternal leakage of one of the two
genomes) is responsible for this pattern. Furthermore, the geographic
locations of the unusual cpDNA-mtDNA associations (due to the inversion)
usually do not match the zones of contact between divergent haplotypes. In
addition, in southern France, the groupings of populations based on the
mtDNA substitution were strictly congruent with those based on cpDNA.
Because many populations that are polymorphic for both cpDNA and mtDNA have
remained in contact since postglacial recolonization in this area without
producing any new combination of cytoplasms involving the mitochondrial
substitution, we conclude that paternal leakage is not a significant factor
at this timescale. Such results confirm and expand our earlier conclusions
based on controlled crosses.
