The purpose of this study was to examine the patterns for the mechanomyographic (MMG) and electromyographic (EMG) amplitude and mean power frequency (MPF) vs. torque relationships during submaximal to maximal isometric and isokinetic muscle actions. Seven men (mean +/- SD age, 22.4 +/- 1.3 years) volunteered to perform isometric and concentric isokinetic leg extension muscle actions at 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100% of maximal voluntary contraction (MVC) and peak torque (PT) on a Cybex II dynamometer. A piezoelectric MMG recording sensor was placed between bipolar surface EMG electrodes on the vastus medialis. Polynomial regression and separate 1-way repeated-measures analysis of variance were used to analyze the EMG amplitude, MMG amplitude, EMG MPF, and MMG MPF data for the isometric and isokinetic muscle actions. For the isometric muscle actions, EMG amplitude (R(2) = 0.999) and MMG MPF (R(2) = 0.946) increased to MVC, mean MMG amplitude increased to 60% MVC and then plateaued, and mean EMG MPF did not change (p > 0.05) across torque levels. For the isokinetic muscle actions, EMG amplitude (R(2) = 0.988) and MMG amplitude (R(2) = 0.933) increased to PT, but there were no significant mean changes with torque for EMG MPF or MMG MPF. The different torque-related responses for EMG and MMG amplitude and MPF may reflect differences in the motor control strategies that modulate torque production for isometric vs. dynamic muscle actions. These results support the findings of others and suggest that isometric torque production was modulated by a combination of recruitment and firing rate, whereas dynamic torque production was modulated primarily through recruitment.  相似文献

This study compared the patterns of mechanomyographic (MMG) amplitude and mean power frequency vs. torque relationships in men and women during isometric muscle actions of the biceps brachii. Seven men (mean age 23.9 +/- 3.5 yrs) and 8 women (mean 21.0 +/- 1.3 yrs) performed submaximal to maximal isometric muscle actions of the dominant forearm flexors. Following determination of the isometric maximum voluntary contraction (MVC), they randomly performed submaximal step muscle actions in 10% increments from 10% to 90% MVC. Polynomial regression analyses indicated that the MMG amplitude vs. isometric torque relationship for the men was best fit with a cubic model (R(2) = 0.983),,where MMG amplitude increased slightly from 10% to 20% MVC, increased rapidly from 20% to 80% MVC, and plateaued from 80% to 100% MVC. For the women, MMG amplitude increased linearly (r(2) = 0.949) from 10% to 100% MVC. Linear models also provided the best fit for the MMG mean power frequency vs. isometric torque relationship in both the men (r(2) = 0.813) and women (r(2) = 0.578). The results demonstrated gender differences in the MMG amplitude vs. isometric torque relationship, but similar torque-related patterns for MMG mean power frequency. These findings suggested that the plateau in MMG amplitude at high levels of isometric torque production for the biceps brachii in the men, but not the women, may have been due to greater isometric torque, muscle stiffness, and/or intramuscular fluid pressure in the men, rather than to differences in motor unit activation strategies for modulating isometric torque production.  相似文献

 Amino-terminal degradation has been observed for many of the secreted heterologous proteins produced by S. lividans 66. We, therefore, set out to characterize the relevant proteinases and their genes. A tripeptide chromogenic substrate was used to identify a gene that was shown to encode a secreted protein which removed tripeptides from the amino terminus of extracellular proteins (tripeptidyl aminopeptidase, Tap; Butler et al. 1995). This activity was removed by a homologous gene deletion replacement and the ability of the S. lividans strain to remove N-terminal tripeptides was greatly reduced, but still significant. When the tap-deleted strain was used as a host for the rescreening of a S. lividans 66 genomic DNA library, a number of other genes encoding proteases with aminopeptidase activities were discovered. One clone (P5-4) produced a 45-kDa secreted protein (Ssp), which showed activity against Ala-Pro-Ala-β-naphthylamide (APA-βNH-Nap) substrate. Further analysis of the cloned DNA showed an open-reading frame encoding a protein larger than 45 kDa. Direct Edman degradation of the secreted protein confirmed that it was encoded within the cloned DNA and probably processed from a larger precursor. Protein sequence analysis revealed a striking homology to subtilisin BPN′ in three regions around the active-site residues suggesting that the protein is a serine protease. As expected, the protease activity was inhibited by phenylmethylsulphonyl fluoride. Mutant strains with most of the ssp gene deleted exhibited reduced activity against APA-βNH-Nap substrate compared to their non-deleted parental strains. GLP-1, with its insulinotropic properties and direct action on satiety center in the brain, may be the main hormone regulating the amount of ingested food. In this study, GLP-1 secretion was investigated in age-matched adolescent girls (14 +/- 2 years): 13 with anorexia nervosa (BMI 14.8 +/- 1.4 kg/m(2)), 13 with simple obesity (BMI 33.0 +/- 3.3 kg/m(2)) and 10 healthy girls as a control group (BMI 21.6 +/- 0.7 kg/m(2)). Each girl was subjected to OGTT and standard meal tests after a 12 h overnight fast. Blood samples were collected before and 15, 30, 60, and 120 min after the stimulation. The mean fasted GLP-1 levels in simple obesity group (1.6 +/- 0.3 pmol/l) and in anorexia nervosa group (1.7 +/- 0.3 pmol/l) were significantly lower than those in the control group (2.6 +/- 0.4 pmol/l) (p < 0.05 in both cases). The highest peak concentration of GLP-1 was observed in the control group after both stimuli. In each group, the mean integrated GLP-1 outputs were almost twice as high after OGTT than after the test meal (p < 0.001 in each case). In our opinion, low secretion of GLP-1 in girls with simple obesity may seriously and negatively influence the course of this disease. On the other hand, low GLP-1 levels in girls with anorexia nervosa are beneficial and promote appetite.  相似文献

Derivative spectrophotometry (graphical method) and partial least-squares regression (numerical method) methods were developed for the spectrophotometric multi-component analysis of post-haemodialysis fluids and synthetic mixtures containing Al(III) and Fe(III) without any chemical separation. The complexes of these metal ions with chrome azurol S were formed immediately at pH 5.5 and were stable for at least 3h. The graphical method is based on the use of first-derivative spectra for evaluation because working wavelength determination was more precise and spectral overlap was less than in the ordinary spectra. Two wavelengths at which the complexes exhibited maximum absorption values for Fe(III) and Al(III) were selected as analytical wavelengths, i.e., 675 and 623.5nm, respectively. Lambert-Beer's law is obeyed between 0.0896-8.064mug/mL Fe(III) and 0.054-0.486mug/mL Al(III). Limits of detection for Fe(III) and Al(III) were 0.056 and 0.044mug/mL, respectively. The reproducibility, expressed as variation coefficients, for two sets of 10 standard mixtures containing 3.584mug/mL Fe(III) and 0.27mug/mL Al(III) were 1.9% and 2% for iron and aluminium, respectively. In the numerical method, a training set was randomly prepared by using 14 samples. The concentration of each component has been varied in the linear range of the analytical signal. The spectral regions between 510 and 720nm were selected for the analysis of the binary mixture of Fe(III)/Al(III). The proposed methods were validated by using synthetic binary mixtures and applied to the simultaneous determination of Fe(III) and Al(III) in post-haemodialysis samples. The obtained results were compared with each other; in general, both multi-component methods gave rise to similar recovery results for laboratory-prepared mixtures and real samples.  相似文献

The lung fluke Paragonimus mexicanus infects opossums in the state of Colima, on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Some of the hydrobiid snails occurring in the same area, and identified as Aroapyrgus alleei Morrison, 1946, were found naturally infected with rediae and cercariae of P. mexicanus. The morphology of A. alleei is here described and compared to that of other species of Aroapyrgus, which are actual or potential hosts of lung flukes in other enzootic or endemic areas in Central and South America.  相似文献
