Action of phenylephrine (35 micrograms/Kg/min) alone or previously blocked by phentolamine (100 micrograms/Kg/min) on exocrine pancreatic secretion of anaesthetized rabbits has been studied, in basal state or under stimulation by secretin (1 C.U./Kg/h) or by the octapeptide of cholecystokinin (OP-CCK) (0.15 Ivy dog units/Kg/h). Phenylephrine increased arterial pressure. This effect was blocked by phentolamine. However no variations were seen in pancreatic blood flow in any of the experimental conditions assayed. Phenylephrine produced a secretin-like effect on hydroelectrolytic secretion in basal conditions. This action was maintained after the infusion of secretin but not after OP-CCK. This effect was not blocked by phentolamine. Phenylephrine increased protein secretion in the basal state, an action that was blocked by phentolamine. After secretin or OP-CCK stimulation phenylephrine did not increase protein secretion. It is concluded that phentolamine blocks the effects of phenylephrine on acinar cells but not on ductular cells.  相似文献

The microbial contamination of 68 samples of topical and 324 samples of oral medicaments has been studied. The most common group of contaminants was members of the genus Bacillus (34.4%). Because of the pathogenic significance of B. cereus, 39 strains were characterized by morphology and biochemical properties. All except three showed most of the characteristics of the type strain. They were highly resistant to lincomycin, polymyxin B and penicillin G-cephalosporin and were susceptible to streptomycin, erythromycin and chloramphenicol. Enterotoxin, phospholipase C and haemolysin production were also studied: 33 strains gave a positive vascular permeability reaction, four of them causing necrosis, and 24 showed positive mouse lethal tests. All the strains had phospholipase activity. The majority also exhibited differing degrees of haemolysis. Permeability factor was related to mouse lethality and haemolytic activity. Phospholipase C was not related to any of the above activities.  相似文献

Summary Yeast cells (Saccharomyces cerevisiae) were immobilized in pectin gel, incubated 12 h at 30°C and then used for the continuous production of ethanol employing a wedge-shaped horizontal reactor and sugar cane molasses as the carbon source. Under steady state conditions the mean residence time was 1.6 h and the volumetric productivity 40 g EtOH/hl. The gas evolved was easily released. Identification of the determinants of pathogen reservoir potential is central to understand disease emergence. It has been proposed that host lifespan is one such determinant: short-lived hosts will invest less in costly defenses against pathogens, so that they will be more susceptible to infection, more competent as sources of infection and/or will sustain larger vector populations, thus being effective reservoirs for the infection of long-lived hosts. This hypothesis is sustained by analyses of different hosts of multihost pathogens, but not of different genotypes of the same host species. Here we examined this hypothesis by comparing two genotypes of the plant Arabidopsis thaliana that differ largely both in life-span and in tolerance to its natural pathogen Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV). Experiments with the aphid vector Myzus persicae showed that both genotypes were similarly competent as sources for virus transmission, but the short-lived genotype was more susceptible to infection and was able to sustain larger vector populations. To explore how differences in defense against CMV and its vector relate to reservoir potential, we developed a model that was run for a set of experimentally-determined parameters, and for a realistic range of host plant and vector population densities. Model simulations showed that the less efficient defenses of the short-lived genotype resulted in higher reservoir potential, which in heterogeneous host populations may be balanced by the longer infectious period of the long-lived genotype. This balance was modulated by the demography of both host and vector populations, and by the genetic composition of the host population. Thus, within-species genetic diversity for lifespan and defenses against pathogens will result in polymorphisms for pathogen reservoir potential, which will condition within-population infection dynamics. These results are relevant for a better understanding of host-pathogen co-evolution, and of the dynamics of pathogen emergence.  相似文献

The subtidal rocky reefs are home to a diverse range of marine animals, including small cryptic fishes, characterised by a bipartite life cycle, with benthic adults and pelagic larval stage that lasts from several days to several months. Using the otolith microstructure analysis, this study determines the hatching and larval growth patterns of the abundant triplefin Helcogrammoides chilensis (Pisces: Tripterygiidae). Fish larvae were collected during September–October 2010 and between July 2012 and April 2013 in nearshore waters (<500 m) of central Chile. Nearshore time series of ichthyoplankton samples showed that large abundance of this species occurs during early austral spring and autumn seasons. Body lengths ranged from 3.11 to 16.57 mm (1–57 days old). Sagittal microincrement analyses estimate that during the main reproductive season, larval growth rates are slow, varying between 0.145 and 0.156 mm day?1 at a weekly scale. Back-calculated hatch days and circular statistics indicate a major hatch pulse occurring near full moon of the lunar cycle. These results suggest that reproduction occurs coupled with the upwelling season, which reduces the probability of starvation, and hatching occurs during spring tides (full moon), which increases larval dispersion and population connectivity.  相似文献

A family of cationic and neutral highly water-soluble rhodium complexes [Cp∗Rh(PTA)3]Cl2 (1), [Cp∗RhCl2(THP)] (2), [Cp∗RhCl(THP)2]Cl (3), and [Cp∗RhCl(PTA)(THP)]Cl (4) have been synthesised and fully characterised [PTA = 1,3,5-triaza-7-phosphaadamantane; THP = tris(hydroxymethyl)phosphine]. Their water-solubility increases as the number of the phosphines coordinated to the metal centre is increased. The X-ray crystal structure of compound 2 was obtained and shows the presence of intermolecular hydrogen bonding. NMR speciation studies of [Cp∗RhCl2(PTA)] in deuterated water show the existence of several equilibria involving substitution processes in which the water molecules can substitute both chloride and PTA ligands.  相似文献

Two new and one known furostanol saponins were isolated from the rhizomes of Yucca gloriosa. The structures of the isolated compounds were established by detailed spectroscopic analysis (1D-, 2D NMR, ESI-MS, HR-MALDI-MS). The glycosidic profile of Y. gloriosa in comparison to that of Yucca schidigera, the well known commercial source of saponins, is briefly discussed. The similarity between the two species regarding the high steroidal content suggests that it might be possible to use Y. gloriosa for the same applications as Y. schidigera.  相似文献
