Abstract The possible biological control of damping-off fungi, Fusarium oxysporum and Pythium ultimum by Pythium oligandrum or Trichoderma harzianum was in vitro investigated. Results of comparing the antagonistic activity of P. oligandrum and T. harzianum in dual plates against the tested phytopathogens indicated different degrees of antagonism. After 12 days of incubation colony of the phytopathogenic fungus was completely overgrown by the antagonist, except for the interaction between T. harzianum and F. oxysporum which showed no overgrowth or any hyphal penetration by the antagonist. However, growth and proliferation of F. oxysporum colony was repressed. T. harzianum and P. oligandrum produced chitinase and β-1,3-glucanase when they were grown on liquid culture medium supplemented with chitin or fungal dried mycelium as a sole carbon source, and enzyme production was higher by T. harzianum comparing with P. oligandrum under the same condition. Fungal dried mycelium of F. oxysporum was the most selective carbon source for enzyme production, on the other hand, chitinase production was significant locked when P. ultimum dried mycelium was used as a carbon source. Production of volatile compounds by P. oligandrum or T. harzianum against F. oxysporum and P. ultimum was examined using the inverted plates method. F. oxysporum was inhibited by the antagonist volatile compounds and it is inhibited 100% by increasing the amount of inoculum size. Production of potential biocontrol agents provided with economically features and working under field conditions are recommended. 相似文献

Abstract The aim of the present study was to formulate six different plant seed oils namely canola, cotton, flax, olive, sesame and soybean as emulsifiable concentrates. The composition of the formulation comprises at least one organic solvent, one surfactant and one plant oil. Physico-chemical properties of the formulated oils (emulsion stability test, cold stability and heat stability tests) were measured. The successfully emulsified oils were evaluated for nematicidal activity against Meloidogyne incognita infecting tomato plants under greenhouse conditions. Emulsified canola oil proved to be the most effective oil as a protectant against M. incognita infection to tomatoes followed by soybean, cotton, flax and sesame oil. In addition, employing a high rate of the tested emulsified oils gave higher activity in suppressing nematodes both in the soil and in tomato roots than using a low rate. Moreover, all tested formulated oils at both rates of application had no adverse effect on the growth of tomato plants except sesame oil which significantly decreased the shoot length when compared to the control. The prepared plant oils might be used as potential sources for sustainable eco-friendly botanical nematicides to protect plants from nematode attack. 相似文献

N-Ethyl-N-nitrosourea (ENU) was used to induce mutations in the Drosophila melanogaster, alcohol dehydrogenase (Adh) gene. Flies were treated with ENU and mated to homozygous intragenic Adh null mutants; Adh null mutations were selected by exposure of the F1 generation to 1-penten-3-ol. Fourteen Adh null mutations were recovered which included 11 from spermatozoa, 2 from oocytes and 1 from a premeiotic spermatocyte. 2 mutations from spermatozoa and 1 of the mutations from oocytes were multilocus deficiencies which included the Adh locus as determined by complementation tests. The remaining 11 intragenic Adh null mutations were sequenced using the Sanger dideoxy method. One Adh null mutation induced in an oocyte was an AT to TA transversion and the mutation induced in a premeiotic spermatocyte was a GC to AT transition, both of which resulted in a single amino acid substitution. The 11 null mutations induced in spermatozoa were a data set in which both the dose of ENU and the treated germ-cell stage were held constant; therefore, only these 11 mutations were used to calculate the mutation frequency and compare the mutations at the Adh locus with those recovered in other studies. The dose of ENU induced a sex-linked recessive lethal frequency approximately 300 times that of the spontaneous frequency; therefore, these mutations were assumed to have been induced by ENU. 2 of the 11 mutations induced in spermatozoa were multilocus deficiencies and 9 were intragenic mutations. 7 of the 9 intragenic mutations were GC to AT transitions which resulted in 5 single amino acid substitutions, 1 premature translation termination codon, and 1 splice site mutation.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 400 WORDS) 相似文献

Drying of garlic slices in thin-layer have been studied with Infrared (IR) at 0.075, 0.15, 0.225 and 0.3 W cm?2 radiation intensity and 0.75 and 1.25 m s?1 air flow velocity. The results showed increasing in drying rate and decreasing at the time of drying with decreasing air flow velocity and increasing IR radiation intensity. The effective moisture diffusivity (Deff) was obtained using Fick’s diffusion equation and its mean values ranged between 5.83×10?11 and 7.66×10?10 m2 s?1 for all investigated conditions. In addition, a third-order polynomial equation linking the effective moisture diffusivity and moisture content was found. Average activation energy increased with the decrease of IR radiation and increase of air flow velocity. Thirteen different mathematical models were verified with non-linear regression analysis for describing the garlic drying process. Modified Henderson and Pabis model presented the best prediction of the drying of garlic slices. 相似文献

The aim of this study is to evaluate the accuracy of the inverse square law (ISL) method for determining location of virtual electron source (SVir) in Siemens Primus linac.Background
So far, different experimental methods have presented for determining virtual and effective electron source location such as Full Width at Half Maximum (FWHM), Multiple Coulomb Scattering (MCS), and Multi Pinhole Camera (MPC) and Inverse Square Law (ISL) methods. Among these methods, Inverse Square Law is the most common used method.Materials and methods
Firstly, Siemens Primus linac was simulated using MCNPX Monte Carlo code. Then, by using dose profiles obtained from the Monte Carlo simulations, the location of SVir was calculated for 5, 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14 MeV electron energies and 10 cm × 10 cm, 15 cm × 15 cm, 20 cm × 20 cm and 25 cm × 25 cm field sizes. Additionally, the location of SVir was obtained by the ISL method for the mentioned electron energies and field sizes. Finally, the values obtained by the ISL method were compared to the values resulted from Monte Carlo simulation.Results
The findings indicate that the calculated SVir values depend on beam energy and field size. For a specific energy, with increase of field size, the distance of SVir increases for most cases. Furthermore, for a special applicator, with increase of electron energy, the distance of SVir increases for most cases. The variation of SVir values versus change of field size in a certain energy is more than the variation of SVir values versus change of electron energy in a certain field size.Conclusion
According to the results, it is concluded that the ISL method can be considered as a good method for calculation of SVir location in higher electron energies (14 MeV). 相似文献87.
We have previously shown that TPA activates HTLV-1 LTR in Jurkat T-cells by inducing the binding of Sp1-p53 complex to the Sp1 site residing within the Ets responsive region 1 (ERR-1) of the LTR and that this activation is inhibited by PKCalpha and PKCepsilon. However, in H9 T-cells TPA has been noted to activate the LTR in two consecutive stages. The first stage is activation is mediated by PKCetta and requires the three 21 bp TRE repeats. The second activation mode resembles that of Jurkat cells, except that it is inhibited by PKCdelta. The present study revealed that the first LTR activation in H9 cells resulted from PKCetta-induced elevation of non-phosphorylated c-Jun which bound to the AP-1 site residing within each TRE. In contrast, this TRE-dependent activation did not occur in Jurkat cells, since there was no elevation of non-phosphorylated c-Jun in these cells. However, we found that PKCalpha and PKCepsilon, in Jurkat cells, and PKCetta and PKCdelta, in H9 cells, increased the level of phosphorylated c-Jun that interacted with the Sp1-p53 complex. This interaction prevented the Sp1-p53 binding to ERR-1 and blocked, thereby, the ERR-1-mediated LTR activation. Therefore, this PKC-inhibited LTR activation started in both cell types after depletion of the relevant PKCs by their downregulation. In view of these variable activating mechanisms we assume that there might be additional undiscovered yet modes of HTLV-1 LTR activation which vary in different cell types. Moreover, in line with this presumption we speculate that in HTLV-1 carriers the LTR of the latent provirus may also be reactivated by different mechanisms that vary between its different host T-lymphocyte subclones. Since this reactivation may initiate the ATL process, understanding of these mechanisms is essential for establishing strategies to block the possibility of reactivating the latent virus as preventive means for ATL development in carriers. 相似文献

This study focused on the use of spinel manganese-cobalt (Mn-Co) oxide, prepared by a solid state reaction, as a cathode catalyst to replace platinum in microbial fuel cells (MFCs) applications. Spinel Mn-Co oxides, with an Mn/Co atomic ratios of 0.5, 1, and 2, were prepared and examined in an air cathode MFCs which was fed with a molasses-laden synthetic wastewater and operated in batch mode. Among the three Mn-Co oxide cathodes and after 300 h of operation, the Mn-Co oxide catalyst with Mn/Co atomic ratio of 2 (MnCo-2) exhibited the highest power generation 113 mW/m2 at cell potential of 279 mV, which were lower than those for the Pt catalyst (148 mW/m2 and 325 mV, respectively). This study indicated that using spinel Mn-Co oxide to replace platinum as a cathodic catalyst enhances power generation, increases contaminant removal, and substantially reduces the cost of MFCs. 相似文献
