Visible surface asymmetries such as uneven shoulders, waist and hips, shoulder height differences and a shoulder blade prominence are often the most troublesome features associated with adolescent scoliosis. Treatment considerations are influenced by the severity and changes over time of these asymmetries. Outcomes are judged on how well the asymmetries are improved towards a normal trunk shape. In this paper, a deformable self organizing feature map (SOFM) is used as a geometric surface reconstruction tool to model the torso surface of subjects with and without scoliosis. The proposed parameterization technique provides a means of quantifying the surface asymmetries and assessing the changes due to either natural history or the effects of treatment. For evaluation 10 control subjects without scoliosis and 10 adolescents with scoliosis were scanned and their torsos were reconstructed. This preliminary study demonstrates that in around 5 min a torso scan with 60,000 data points can be transformed into a 2562 nodes mesh using SOFM. The accuracy of the final mesh is around 1.40 mm on average. The high accuracy and speed of this technique, makes it well suitable to be used in a clinical setting to assess surface features of subjects with scoliosis.  相似文献

Scaffolds porosity has an important role in in vitro and in vivo differentiation process of stem cells with given the amount of space available to the cells to proliferate and differentiate. In the present study, chitosan with three porosities including 10%, 15%, and 20% that created by gelatin were used for investigation of the proliferation and osteogenic differentiation potential of adipose‐derived stem cells (ADSCs). In order to be more like the scaffold to natural bone tissue, freeze‐drying method was used in the scaffold preparation. Scaffold morphology, cell attachment, and toxicity were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy and MTT assay. Then, osteogenic differentiation potential of ADSCs cultured on chitosan with different porosities was evaluated by common osteogenic markers such as Alizarin red staining, ALP activity, calcium content, and osteogenic‐related genes expression via real‐time RT‐PCR. Although all scaffolds supported the proliferation and differentiation of ADSCs, but 10% scaffold demonstrated higher amount of osteogenic markers in comparison with the other porosities and control groups. Taking together, it can be concluded that osteogenic differentiation well done in the scaffolds with lower porosity because density of the cells will increase by forcing resulted from the scaffold, so osteogenic differentiation of the stem cells have an inverse association with scaffold porosity. The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative growth and sexual dimorphism in the hermit crab Clibanarius signatus. The evaluation was done with 955 specimens (494 males, 251 females, and 210 intersexes) captured in Persian Gulf (Iran) during January to December 2015. Animals were submitted to measurements related to weight (BW, total wet weight) and body size related to cephalic shield (SW, width; and SL, length) and propodus of both chelipeds (CPL, length; and CPW, width). Males were larger and heavier than females and intersexes. Both males and females showed a negative allometric growth for the SL–BW and SL–SW relationships, but a positive allometric growth to intersex specimens. To SL–CPL relationship, a negative allometric growth was confirmed in males and females independent of the laterality of the CPL, whereas a contrast was verified in intersexes, with a positive allometric growth occurred for both hands. To SL–CPW relationship, a negative allometric growth (b < 1) occurred in females, independent of the laterality of the CPW, while in males, a positive allometric pattern was confirmed. In intersexes, this relationship was positive except for the right CPW which was isometric. Sexual dimorphism was evident in Clibanarius signatus, with males being the largest and females the smallest specimens in the population.  相似文献

Blood methylated cell-free DNA (cfDNA) as a minimally invasive cancer biomarker has great importance in cancer management. Guanylate binding protein 2 (GBP2) has been considered as a possible controlling factor in tumor development. GBP2 gene expression and its promoter methylation status in both plasma cfDNA and tumor tissues of ductal carcinoma breast cancer patients were analyzed using SYBR green comparative Real-Time RT-PCR and, Methyl-specific PCR techniques, respectively in order to find a possible cancer-related marker. The results revealed that GBP2 gene expression and promoter methylation were inversely associated. GBP2 was down-regulated in tumors with emphasis on triple negative status, nodal involvement and higher cancer stages (p<0.0001). GBP2 promoter methylation on both cfDNA and tumor tissues were positively correlated and was detected in about 88% of breast cancer patients mostly in (Lymph node positive) LN+ and higher stages. Data provided shreds of evidence that GBP2 promoter methylation in circulating DNA may be considered as a possible effective non-invasive molecular marker in poor prognostic breast cancer patients with the evidence of its relation to disease stage and lymph node metastasis. However further studies need to evaluate the involvement of GBP2 promoter methylation in progression-free survival or overall survival of the patients.  相似文献

To overcome the lack of selectivity and nonspecific biodistribution of drugs in the body, targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic agents with aptamers is a very effective method. In this strategy, aptamers could be specifically identified and attach to targeted molecules on the cancerous cells and deliver the chemotherapeutic agents to desired tissue with minimal or no damage to the normal cells. In this study, we designed anti-epithelial cell adhesion molecule (EpCAM) RNA aptamer conjugated PEGylated liposomal doxorubicin (ER-lip) to investigate its in vitro and in vivo anticancer abilities. Data showed that EpCAM aptamer was able to enhance cell uptake and cytotoxic effects of Dox in C26 cell line. The biodistribution study indicated that ER-lip enhanced the tumor accumulation of Dox compared to Caelyx. Also, double staining of isolated tumor cells with anti-CD44-PE-cy5 and anti-EpCAM Cy-7 antibodies indicated that tumor cells expressed a high level of EpCAM+ CD44+ cells (p ≤ .001) compared to cultured C26 cell line. in vivo results showed that ER-lip promoted survival and reduced tumor growth rate in animal model compared to Caelyx. In conclusion, these results suggested that the ER-lip could be served as promising formulation for the treatment of cancers with the high expression of EpCAM.  相似文献
