Podocytes, highly specified kidney epithelial cells, live under several pathological stimuli and stresses during which they adapt themselves to keep homeostasis. Nevertheless, under extreme stress, a complex scenario of podocyte damage and its consequences occur. Podocyte damage causes foot process effacement and their detachment from the glomerular basement membrane, leading to proteinuria. Podocyte-derived extracellular vesicles (pEVs), mainly microparticles and exosomes are considered as signaling mediators of intercellular communication. Recently, it has been shown that throughout the injury-related migration procedure, podocytes are capable of releasing the injury-related migrasomes. Evidence indicates that at the early stages of glomerular disorders, increased levels of pEVs are observed in urine. At the early stage of nephropathy, pEVs especially migrasomes seem to be more sensitive and reliable indicators of podocyte stress and/or damage than proteinuria. This review highlights the current knowledge of pEVs and their values for the diagnosis of different kidney diseases. 相似文献

Epigenetics refers to a set of regulatory mechanisms that affect gene expression, while the original sequence of the DNA remains unchanged. Because the advance of noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs), the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) has been gradually highlighted in the regulation of numerous cellular processes. A bulk of studies has identified that ncRNAs might be divided into several subtypes. On the one hand, investigations have disclosed the role of these molecules in normal physiological conditions of the cells. On the other hand, there is sufficient evidence that ncRNAs participate in the pathogenesis of diseases. Through this review article, we attempted to gain a comprehensive understanding of the role of ncRNAs, long ncRNAs, miRNAs, and other subtypes in pathogenesis, diagnosis, and treatment of rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Research demonstrated aberrant expression of several miRNAs in various cell and tissue types of patients with RA in comparison to the healthy individuals as well as in animal studies. Furthermore, plausible molecular mechanisms of alterations in ncRNAs expression has been discussed in causing the disease state. These alterations seem promising to be used as biomarkers in RA diagnosis. Alternately, they might be targeted by drugs to interrupt inflammation and other disease complications to treat patients with RA. 相似文献

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a type of inflammatory and demyelinating disorder of the central nervous system in which immune-mediated inflammatory processes are elicited by secreted cytokines from T helper (Th)-1 and Th17 cells. While some protein-coding genes expressed in T cell types have established involvement in MS disease progression, little is understood about the roles of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) within the disease landscape. LncRNAs, noncoding RNAs longer than 200 nucleotides, likely control gene expression and function of Th1 cells, and offer the potential to act as therapeutic and biomarker candidates for MS. We identified lncRNAs in Th1 cells linked to MS. Expression levels of candidate lncRNAs and genes were evaluated in 50 MS patients and 25 healthy controls using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction, and their correlations were assessed. LncRNAs encoded by AC007278.2 and IFNG-AS1-001 showed significantly higher expression in relapsing Phase MS patients whereas IFNG-AS1-003 was elevated in patients in the remitting phase compared with relapsing patients. Collectively, these misregulated lncRNAs may provide valuable tools to understand the relationships between lncRNAs and MS, and possibly other related disorders. 相似文献

Transforming growth factor β (TGF-β) modulates tumor progression by regulating cell proliferation, apoptosis, metastasis, angiogenesis, and drug resistance. Biological and pharmacological agonists/antagonists, the interplay between intracellular signaling pathways, and microRNAs (miRNAs) control the initiation and activation of the TGF-β signaling pathway. It has been proposed that the expression profiles of tumor suppressor and oncogenic TGF-β miRNAs may be used for the classification, diagnosis, and prognosis of human malignancies. Deregulated miRNAs and aberrant activation of TGF-β signaling are frequently found in human colorectal cancers (CRCs), but a little is known about their mechanisms of action in the development and progression of colorectal carcinoma. This review summarizes the current knowledge of the role of TGF-β signaling regulatory miRNAs in the pathogenesis of CRC for a better understanding and hence better management of this disease. 相似文献

Prolonged droughts and excessive water harvesting in western Asia has accelerated desertification and caused longer dry seasons of salt lakes. The Aral Sea experience has proven that dust from saline soil is a serious health issue. Various stabilization techniques to reduce wind erosion have been used in the past. However, in recent years, a potentially viable method has been developed; microbial induced calcite precipitation (MICP) has been introduced as a method of soil stabilization, though its effectiveness in saline soils remains to be examined. The effect of salt content in loose sandy soil on calcite precipitation of calcite through stimulation of native bacteria is investigated in this article. Samples with salinity up to 30% salt content were prepared and treated with different culture medium compounds. A number of tests were used to evaluate the effect of the mentioned parameters. The results show that improvement increases with increasing salinity up to 5% salt, and further increase in salinity reduces the effectiveness of improvement. It is also shown that the addition of urea in the culture medium has a significant effect on the urea hydrolysis which resulted in a five-fold increase in compressive strength. Four native strains of halotolerant urease-positive bacteria were also identified. 相似文献

The presence of bulk and surface defects in perovskite light harvesting materials limits the overall efficiency of perovskite solar cells (PSCs). The formation of such defects is suppressed by adding methylammonium chloride (MACl) as a crystallization aid to the precursor solution to realize high‐quality, large‐grain triple A‐cation perovskite films and that are combined with judicious engineering of the perovskite interface with the electron and hole selective contact materials. A planar SnO2/TiO2 double layer oxide is introduced to ascertain fast electron extraction and the surface of the perovskite facing the hole conductor is treated with iodine dissolved in isopropanol to passivate surface trap states resulting in a retardation of radiationless carrier recombination. A maximum solar to electric power conversion efficiency (PCE) of 21.65% and open circuit photovoltage (Voc) of ≈1.24 V with only ≈370 mV loss in potential with respect to the band gap are achieved, by applying these modifications. Additionally, the defect healing enhances the operational stability of the devices that retain 96%, 90%, and 85% of their initial PCE values after 500 h under continuously light illumination at 20, 50, and 65 °C, respectively, demonstrating one of the most stable planar PSCs reported so far. 相似文献
