It has been shown that both IAA and ethylene application inhibit flower induction in the short-day plant Pharbitis nil. However application of IAA has elevated ethylene production in this plant, as well. Strong enhancement of ethylene production is also correlated with the night-break effect, which completely inhibits flowering. In order to determine what the role of IAA and ethylene is in the photoperiodic flower induction in Pharbitis nil, we measured changes in their levels during inductive and non-inductive photoperiods, and the effects of ethylene biosynthesis and action inhibitors on inhibition of flowering by IAA. Our results have shown that the inhibitory effect of IAA on Pharbitis nil flowering is not physiological but is connected with its effect on ethylene biosynthesis.  相似文献

In this single case study, visuospatial neglect patient P1 demonstrated a dissociation between an intact ability to make appropriate reflexive eye movements to targets in the neglected field with latencies of <400 ms, while failing to report targets presented at such durations in a separate verbal detection task. In contrast, there was a failure to evoke the usually robust Remote Distractor Effect in P1, even though distractors in the neglected field were presented at above threshold durations. Together those data indicate that the tight coupling that is normally shown between attention and eye movements appears to be disrupted for low-level orienting in P1. A comparable disruption was also found for high-level cognitive processing tasks, namely reading and scene scanning. The findings are discussed in relation to sampling, attention and awareness in neglect.  相似文献

Seedlings of two barley genotypes (‘Maresi’ and wild form of Hordeum spontaneum) were treated with jasmonic acid (JA 5 μM and 15 μM) for 24 h, and then subjected to water stress (PEG 6000 solution of − 1.5 MPa). JA caused an increase in the content of ABA but not in that of proline and spermidine in the two studied genotypes. The effect of the treatment did not depend on the applied JA concentration. The pre-stress treatment with JA changed plant response to water deficit with regard to membrane injury. Treatment with a lower JA concentration (5 μM) caused a substantial reduction of the stress-induced membrane damage in the both genotypes. A higher JA concentration (15 μM) caused the reduction of membrane injury only in H. spontaneum and was ineffective in ‘Maresi’. JA had no influence on the leaf water status in water-stressed plants. A possible role of JA in leaf ABA accumulation and alleviation of cell membrane injury under water deficit is discussed.
