We studied an invasion of Poa annua on King George Island (Maritime Antarctic). The remoteness of this location, its geographic isolation, and its limited human traffic provided an opportunity to trace the history of an invasion of the species. Poa annua was recorded for the first time at H. Arctowski Polish Antarctic Station in the austral summer of 1985/6. In 2008/9, the species was observed in a new locality at the Ecology Glacier Forefield (1.5 km from “Arctowski”). We used AFLP to analyze the genetic differences among three populations of P. annua: the two mentioned above (Station and Forefield) and the putative origin of the introduction, Warsaw (Poland). There was 38% genetic variance among the populations. Pairwise ФPT was 0.498 between the Forefield and Warsaw populations and 0.283 between Warsaw and Station. There were 15 unique bands in the Warsaw population (frequency from 6% to 100%) and one in the Station/Forefield populations (which appears in all analyzed individuals from both populations). The Δ(K) parameter indicated two groups of samples: Warsaw/Station and Forefield. As indicated by Fu's Fs statistics and an analysis of mismatch distribution, the Forefield population underwent a bottleneck and/or founder effect. The Forefield population was likely introduced by secondary dispersal from the Station population.  相似文献

Colorectal cancer is the second most common type of cancer both in Europe and Poland. During the last 30 years more than a 3-fold increase has been observed in Poland due to environmental and genetic factors. Almost all colorectal malignancies are related to the formation and malignant transformation of colorectal dysplasia and adenoma. Efforts aiming to decrease the number of colorectal cancer deaths are focused on the disease early detection. Genetic diagnosis for hereditary syndromes predisposing to colorectal cancer has been developed and is a part of the routine treatment. Most cancers are sporadic. They often develop from polyps in the colon. In addition to the genetic events described in the 1990s, showing the adenoma transformation into carcinoma that has been a prime example of malignant transformation for a long time, there are also other possibilities of neoplastic transformation. The recognition of colorectal cancer risk factors make sense as their nature is lifestyle- and diet-related. In this review paper those risk factors are presented and the prevention of colorectal cancer is discussed taking into account genetic factors.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine factors affecting the vertical distribution of Eurytemora lacustris in mesotrophic lakes (Wigry, Hańcza, Szurpi?y; north-eastern Poland) during the summer stagnation. Eurytemora lacustris was found in all of the studied lakes, with the highest abundance (8 ind. L?1) in Lake Wigry. In Lake Szurpi?y, E. lacustris has never been recorded before. The results of this study revealed that E. lacustris was most numerous in thermocline zones, suggesting that this species could temporarily tolerate warmer water and lower oxygen concentrations due to better food resources. During the study, it was found that a large part of the E. lacustris population had epibiont ciliates, in contrast to other species of zooplankton that did not have any epibionts. The improvement in the water quality of many deep lakes could lead to an increase in the abundance of E. lacustris. However, epibiont ciliates may be a threat for this species and may play a substantial role in determining the production, distribution, and community dynamics of E. lacustris.  相似文献

Two new quill mite species of the genus Psittaciphilus Fain, Bochkov & Mironov, 2000 (Acariformes: Prostigmata: Syringophilidae) collected from columbiform birds (Columbiformes) are described: Psittaciphilus montanus n. sp. form the ruddy quail-dove Geotrygon montana Gosse from Trinidad and Tobago, Brazil and Panama, and Psittaciphilus patagioenas n. sp. from the band-tailed pigeon Patagioenas fasciata (Say) from Colombia and the scaled pigeon Patagioenas speciosa (Gmelin) from Surinam. A key to the species of the genus Psittaciphilus is provided. Our finding is the first record of the representatives of this genus on columbiform birds.  相似文献

Neutral glycolipids and gangliosides from seven human urothelial cell lines, differing in grades of transformation (TGr), were characterized by fast atom bombardment mass spectrometry, exoglycosidase treatment and an immunostaining procedure. The major neutral glycolipids identified in all cell lines studied included CMH, CDH, CTH, globoside and paragloboside, the gangliosides were GM3, GM2, sialosylparagloboside and GD1a. The following observations were made: 1. GM2 was the major ganglioside in the TGrll cell lines (non-tumorigenic, non-invasive), but a minor component in the TGrIII cell lines (tumorigenic, invasive). 2. Endozoochory, the dispersal of seeds by animal ingestion, is the most dominant mode of seed dispersal in tropical forests and is a key process shaping current and future forest dynamics. However, it remains largely unknown how endozoochory is associated with environmental conditions at regional and local scales. Here, we investigated the effects of elevation, climate, and microhabitat conditions on the proportion of endozoochorous plant species in the seed rain of the tropical Andes of southern Ecuador. Over 1 year, we measured seed rain in 162 seed traps on nine 1-ha forest plots located at 1000, 2000, and 3000 m a.s.l. We recorded climatic conditions (mean annual temperature and rainfall) in each plot and microhabitat conditions (leaf area index and soil moisture) adjacent to each seed trap. In total, we recorded 331,838 seeds belonging to 323 morphospecies. Overall, the proportion of endozoochorous species in the seed rain decreased with elevation. The relative biomass of endozoochorous species decreased with increasing rainfall, whereas the relative seed richness of endozoochorous species increased with increasing temperature and leaf area index. These findings suggest an interplay between climate factors and microhabitat conditions in shaping the importance of endozoochorous plant species in the seed rain of tropical montane forests. We conclude that changing climatic and microhabitat conditions are likely to cause changes in the dominant dispersal modes of plant communities which may trigger changes in the current and future dynamics of tropical forests.  相似文献

Both field observations and enclosure experiments show that juvenile copepods enter Daphnia brood cavities to feed on Daphnia eggs and embryos. The ability to perform such in vivo exploitation is reported for both cyclopoid and calanoid copepods. Copepodites of Acanthocyclops robustus (G.O. Sars) were found to eat eggs in brood cavities of D. magna, D. pulex and D. pulicaria in experimental enclosures rich in algae. Copepodites of Eudiaptomus gracilus (G.O. Sars) were found in brood cavities of D. hyalina in a mesotrophic lake. The copepods' intrusions into brood cavities caused dramatic declines in the clutch size of infested Daphnia, and this predation effect could easily be confused with the effect of severe food limitation.  相似文献

The synthesis, conjugation, and chemiluminescent evaluation of zero, first, and second order acridinium-based TracermerTM signal generators are described. Members of this family of labels have potential use as tracers in diagnostic assays and are structurally similar to arborol dendrimers. TracermerTM-BSA conjugates showed up to a sixfold increase in light emission compared to the normal acridinium label.  相似文献

A selective assay of flunitrazepam (F) and its metabolites 7-aminoflunitrazepam (7-AF), N-desmethylflunitrazepam (N-DF) and 3-hydroxyflunitrazepam (3-OHF) with liquid chromatography–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (LC–APCI-MS, positive ions) is described. The drugs were isolated from serum, blood or urine using a solid-phase extraction procedure previously applied to various drugs of abuse. F-d3 and 7-AF-d3 were used as internal standards. The drugs were separated on ODS column in acetonitrile–50 mM ammonium formate buffer, pH 3.0 (45:55, v/v). After analysis of mass spectra taken in full scan mode, a selected-ion monitoring detection was applied with following ions: m/z 284 (7-AF and F), 287 (7-AF-d3 and F-d3), 314 (F), 300 (N-DF and 3-OHF), 317 (F-d3), 330 (3-OHF). The limits of detection were: 0.2 μg/l for F and 7-AF, 1 μg/l for N-DF and 3-OHF. The method was linear in the range 1–500 μg/l, the recoveries ranged from 92 to 99%. The method was applied for determination of F and metabolites in clinical and forensic samples. LC–APCI-MS seems to be a method of choice for these compounds.  相似文献

Process extension was induced in cells of the N18-RE-105 neuroblastoma-retinal hybrid line by toxic agents, including glutamate and the p53-inducing anticancer agents adriamycin and etoposide. Both adriamycin and glutamate activated p53 as measured by a plasmid transfection assay. It was therefore hypothesized that SV40 large T antigen, which binds p53, would interfere with cellular differentiation. To test this hypothesis, the temperature-sensitive form of SV40 large T was transduced into N18-RE-105 cells by retroviral infection. SV40 large T-infected cells became de-differentiated, grew in tightly-packed colonies, lost expression of neurofilament, and lost the ability to differentiate in response to glutamate and adriamycin. The de-differentiating effect of SV40 large T antigen may be due to binding and inactivation of cellular proteins, such as p53, p107, p130, p300, and retinoblastoma protein, which are important in cellular growth and differentiation. It is suggested that p53 may play a role in cellular differentiation, perhaps under unusual circumstances involving stress or cytotoxicity. Received: 29 April 1997 / Accepted: 18 June 1997  相似文献
