Among 500 cases of suicide analyzed in Stockholm, fewer than a third were associated with depression. Most forms of psychiatric disease were represented. Nevertheless, most persons give some warning before attempting suicide, and these warnings should be the signal for preventive action. Centers with trained personnel could prevent many suicides, if the potential victims were recognized and referred early enough. Laymen too should be educated to recognize potential suicide and help avert it.  相似文献

Both Cowania subintegra Kearney and C. stansburiana Torr. were successfully propagated in vitro. Shoot proliferation occurred from shoot tips of green-house grown C. subintegra using a modified Murashige and Skoog medium supplemented with 4.4 M 6-benzyladenine and 0.5 M indole butyric acid. Excised microshoots (1.5–3.0 cm long) of both species were rooted using a two-step process in which they were cultured for 3 days in a root initiation medium with 2.7 M naphthaleneacetic acid and then transferred to a low nitrogen root elongation medium without auxin. The X-ray structure of human serum ceruloplasmin has been solved at a resolution of 3.1?Å. The structure reveals that the molecule is comprised of six plastocyanin-type domains arranged in a triangular array. There are six copper atoms; three form a trinuclear cluster sited at the interface of domains 1 and 6, and there are three mononuclear sites in domains 2, 4 and 6. Each of the mononuclear coppers is coordinated to a cysteine and two histidine residues, and those in domains 4 and 6 also coordinate to a methionine residue; in domain 2, the methionine is replaced by a leucine residue which may form van der Waals type contacts with the copper. The trinuclear centre and the mononuclear copper in domain 6 form a cluster essentially the same as that found in ascorbate oxidase, strongly suggesting an oxidase role for ceruloplasmin in the plasma.  相似文献

Peritoneal macrophages of the mouse produce, in response to cell wall components of Gram-negative bacteria (lipopolysaccharide and lipoproteins), a factor that causes antigen-stimulated B cells of differentiate into antibody-producing cells. Unlike lipopolysaccharide, this factor is not mitogenic for B cells. Production of the macrophage factor does not depend on participation of T cells or other accessory cells since it is readily produced by several cloned macrophage cell lines as well as by peritoneal macrophages of athymic nude mice. The factor is active only in conjunction with antigen. T cells, although apparently not necessary, amplify its effect. The factor induces phenotypic differentiation of B cell precursors as selectively as thymopoietin induces differentiation of prothymocytes.  相似文献
