A new method for analysis of lichen triterpenoids was established using high performance liquid chromatography with the combination of a differential refractive index detector (RID) and a photodiode array detector (PDA). It is proved that this method was convenient to detect and identify aromatic and aliphatic lichen substances; it enabled quantitative analysis of substances having no or less absorption of ultraviolet rays such as triterpenoids. In addition, they can be measured in high accuracy compared with the TLC method.  相似文献

A glasshouse experiment was conducted to examine how the interactions of nutrient availability and partial ramet clipping affect growth, reproduction and biomass allocation of Cyperus esculentus, an invasive sedge. The plants sprouting from tubers were grown at low and high nutrient levels, and were subject either to no clipping, one, two or three clippings, with each clipping cutting half of the existing ramets at soil level. Our results show that nutrient availability and clipping frequency tended to independently affect most of growth, reproduction and biomass allocation parameters of Cyperus esculentus examined in the present study. Increased supply of nutrients led to an increase in plant productivity and its associated traits. All of the traits, except for the number of ramets, displayed a decreasing pattern with increasing clipping frequency, indicating that Cyperus esculentus had undercompensatory responses to ramet clipping. It is likely that the patterns of plants response to clipping are species specific, and depend on morphological characters of species. Its susceptibility to ramet clipping can offer opportunities for controlling this invasive species through mechanical methods such as mowing. Clipping had little effects on biomass allocation; however, root weight fraction increased with increasing clipping frequency. While nutrient availability and clipping frequency had no influence on leaf carbon concentration at harvest, both of them increased leaf nitrogen concentration, and hence reduced leaf C/N ratio.  相似文献

We have investigated the correlation between DNA adduct levels and aryl hydrocarbon hydroxylase (AHH) activity in peripheral lymphocyte samples obtained from 42 lung cancer patients. DNA adducts and AHH activity were determined by the 32P-postlabelling technique and the fluorometric method, respectively. The mean +/- SD of DNA adduct level was 0.88 +/- 0.37 (ranged from 0.22 to 1.90) per 108 nucleotides. The geometric means of non-induced and 3-methylcholanthrene (MC)-induced AHH activity, as well as AHH inducibility (MC-induced AHH activity/non-induced AHH activity) were 0.029, 0.228 pmol min-1 10-6 cells, and 7.776, respectively. There was no statistically significant correlation between DNA adduct levels and non-induced or MC-induced AHH activity. A tendency of positive correlation was found between DNA adduct levels and AHH inducibility for the all subjects (n = 42, r = 0.25, p = 0.11). Such a positive correlation reached statistical significance in the subjects with squamous cell carcinoma (n = 13, r = 0.70, p < 0.01). In addition, similar correlation of DNA adducts with AHH inducibility was also observed in the GSTM1 present genotype (n = 17, r = 0.44, p = 0.07) and GSTP1-AA genotype (n = 29, r = 0.37, p = 0.05) individuals. These findings suggest that DNA adduct levels are mediated by CYP1A1 enzyme, and AHH inducibility may be a more relevant indicator than specific AHH activity for explaining the variation of DNA adduct levels in lymphocytes.  相似文献

Aphids of the tribe Eriosomatini are typically associated with the tree genera Ulmus and Zelkova as the primary host, on which they induce several types of leaf gall. To elucidate evolutionary changes in the aphid–host associations and gall morphology, phylogenetic relationships were inferred using 36 species (28 in the ingroup) and based on 52 morphological characters. Phylogenetic analysis with equal character weighting led to hundreds of most‐parsimonious trees, and the strict consensus of these was poorly resolved. However, the successive weighting of characters yielded three most‐parsimonious trees. The strict consensus of these supported the monophyly of the Eriosomatini and the monophyly of most genera. Reconstruction of the aphid–host associations on the consensus tree indicated that the ancestral Eriosomatini were associated with Zelkova and that the association with Ulmus evolved twice independently. Ancestral reconstruction suggests that galls of the leaf‐roll type are ancestral to those of the completely and incompletely closed pouch type, and that each type of pouch galls evolved independently. It is suggested that despite early diversification of the Eriosomatini on Zelkova species, Zelkova‐associated eriosomatines had become extinct or survived as relict parthenogens on the secondary host due to the elimination of Zelkova in most regions since the late Tertiary. In contrast, two large genera in the Eriosomatini, Eriosoma and Tetraneura, are associated with the largest elm section Ulmus whose elements are distributed widely in Eurasia, including boreal regions. Therefore, the available evidence suggests that the present species diversity and distribution patterns of the eriosomatines have been largely affected by the diversification and extinction of their host plants during the late Tertiary and Quaternary.  相似文献

1. Natural selection favours females who can correctly assess the predation risk and hence avoid high‐risk oviposition sites and reduce the mortality rate of their offspring. In spite of the potential significance of such behaviour, relatively few studies have assessed the relationship between oviposition behaviour and predation risk. 2. The present study aimed to determine the sublethal effects of predators on oviposition site selection by gravid females, the foraging activity of larvae, and the life history traits of two mosquito species that breed in different habitats, Aedes albopictus Skuse (container breeder) and Culex tritaeniorhynchus Giles (wetland breeder). 3. Female C. tritaeniorhynchus avoided laying eggs at oviposition sites in the presence of a predator cue. In contrast, female A. albopictus laid eggs in both the absence and presence of the predator cue. 4. To examine the effects of predator cues on larval behaviour, experiments were conducted in the absence and presence of a predator cue. Although larval activity was lower in the presence of the predator cue than that in its absence in both species, C. tritaeniorhynchus responded to the predator cue more strongly than A. albopictus. Female A. albopictus that had been reared with caged predators exhibited an extended larval development period, whereas the adult C. tritaeniorhynchus reared in the presence of predators were smaller than those reared in their absence. 5. This finding might explain why C. tritaeniorhynchus avoid laying eggs in predator‐conditioned water, for example to increase the fitness of their offspring, but A. albopictus either cannot detect predator cues or are not sensitive to them.  相似文献

Relationships between individual plant weight and net photosynthesisper day (G(t, x) function of plant weight) in plant populationsof various stand structures were simulated based on a canopyphotosynthesis model. The G(t, x) functions of plant weightare determined mainly by LAI (leaf area index), the relationshipbetween individual plant weight and leaf area, canopy structureand extinction coefficient. The concave relationship betweenindividual plant weight and leaf area at small LAI (<2),at small extinction coefficient (< 0.5), or at the canopystructure having the maximum leaf area density at the bottomproduces a concave G(t, x) function, which generates negativeskewness of plant weight. The linear relationship between individualplant weight and leaf area at large LAI (> 2) produces aconvex G(t, x) function, which generates positive skewness ofplant weight. These simulation results coincide with G(t, x)functions obtained experimentally and with the well-known phenomenonof stand dynamics in which skewness of plant weight becomesnegative in the early growth stage and then increases to a positivevalue as a stand grows and becomes crowded. Reproductive isolation between species is the major factor responsiblefor the evolution of species-specificity in communication signals.However, the actual physical or chemical structure of signalsmay be determined by a number of factors such as the physicallaws regulating the transmission of signal energy, locatability,the functional properties of sensory organs, the physical characteristicsof the habitats in which communication occurs, and prey-predatorrelationships. The phagocytosis of latex particles by retinal pigmented cells from chick embryos was studied in vitro. The pigment epithelial cells phagocytized latex particles within 2 hr without a latent period, as found in some mamalian species. The number of latex phagosomes increased with time, and the phagosomes eventually became distributed nearly uniformly in the cytoplasm. When cultures that had been exposed to latex particles for 24 hr were incubated without the particles for a further 7 days, numerous latex phagosomes remained inside the cells without any decrease in their number. This indicates that phagocytized particles are not ejected from the cells, presumably due to a defect in, or absence of, exocytotic activity.  相似文献
