The posterior oesophagus of N. reticulatus (Linnaeus) consistsof two histologically distinct regions. The epithelium of thethickened segment in the visceral haemocoel is virtually uniform.The cells are lipid-rich and can take up lipid from food. Inaddition, enzyme histochemistry indicates a capacity for theuptake of sugars and amino acids. There is no detectable difference in reactivity between germ cells of wildtype flies and the mutant l(3)pl (lethal-polyploid) which is characterized by microtubular abnormalities. Intracellular Development of Enterocytozoon, A Unique Microsporidian Found in the Intestine of AIDS Patients 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Enterocytozoon was 1st described in 1985, in an AIDS patient with intestinal malabsorption and diarrhea. Since then, additional cases of infection with this organism have been observed, but only in individuals with AIDS and malabsorption. Intestinal tissue biopsies were obtained from a 45-year-old man prior to AIDS diagnosis, again nine months later and then at autopsy two months later. When the biopsies were examined electron microscopically, both sets contained the microsporidian parasite. However, the 2nd intestinal biopsy, when wasting was much more severe, contained infection in almost every small intestinal enterocyte examined. The parasite was actively developing, allowing us to detail its life cycle. The parasite is apansporoblastic, polysporous and has characteristics not previously reported in the Microsporida: (1) an electron lucent inclusion not usually seen in Microsporida is prominent and always present; (2) extremely elongated sausage-shaped nuclei occur in the proliferative phase of parasite development; (3) the polar tube development uniquely involves the production of electron dense discs, yet results in the formation of a typical spore; and (4) polar tube development occurs prior to the final division of the multi-nucleate sporont. Respiratory activities in soybean seeds (Glvcine max (L.) Merr. cv. Chippewa 64) have been examined in the first minutes after water imbibition and after three hours of imbibition, using either particles or intact axes. Cyanide and azide were utilized as inhibitors of the cytochrome oxidase pathway of respiration, and SHAM inhibitions were interpreted as effects on the alternative pathway, since in unaged axes inhibitions by SHAM were obtained only when respiratory activity had either been restricted with inhibitors of the cytochrome oxidase pathway or expanded by an uncoupler (CCCP). From the experiments with these inhibitors, it is suggested that unaged seeds utilize both respiration pathways in the cotyledon but only the cytochrome pathway in the axis. Accelerated aging causes a marked deterioration of respiration, especially that through the cytochrome pathway, and there is an associated engagement of the alternative pathway in the seed axis. It is suggested that the lowering of respiratory activity and the shift in respiratory pathways may play a major role in the decline of germinability and vigor. 相似文献
