We have recently shown that stimulation of endothelial cells with vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) induces dissociation of caveolin-1 from the VEGFR-2 receptor, followed by Src family kinase-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of the protein (Labrecque, L., Royal, I., Surprenant, D. S., Patterson, C., Gingras, D., and Beliveau, R. (2003) Mol. Biol. Cell 14, 334-347). In this study, we provide evidence that the VEGF-dependent tyrosine phosphorylation of caveolin-1 induces interaction of the protein with the membrane-type 1 matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP). This interaction requires the phosphorylation of caveolin-1 on tyrosine 14 by members of the Src family of protein kinases, such as Src and Fyn, because it is completely abolished by expression of a catalytically inactive Src mutant or by site-directed mutagenesis of tyrosine 14 of caveolin-1. Most interestingly, the association of MT1-MMP with phosphorylated caveolin-1 induced the recruitment of Src and a concomitant inhibition of the kinase activity of the enzyme, suggesting that this complex may be involved in the negative regulation of Src activity. The association of MT1-MMP with phosphorylated caveolin-1 occurs in caveolae membranes and involves the cytoplasmic domain of MT1-MMP because it was markedly reduced by mutation of Cys574 and Val582 residues of the cytoplasmic tail of the enzyme. Most interestingly, the reduction of the interaction between MT1-MMP and caveolin-1 by using these mutants also decreases MT1-MMP-dependent cell locomotion. Overall these results indicate that MT1-MMP associates with tyrosine-phosphorylated caveolin-1 and that this complex may play an important role in MT1-MMP regulation and function. 相似文献

On 15 November 2017 the mouth of the West Kleinemonde Estuary breached following heavy catchment rains and increased river flow. The water level in the estuary following mouth opening decreased by 1.65 m within 24 h, resulting in an almost complete draining of the littoral zone where large beds of the aquatic macrophyte Ruppia cirrhosa and mats of the associated filamentous algae were present. As the water depth within the plant beds decreased, the macrophytes, together with the algal filaments, created an increasingly dense mat, trapping fish that were resident, foraging or passing through the littoral zone. By 16 November 2017 large numbers of fishes belonging to at least 20 species were trapped in pools and depressions within the littoral, as well as within the R. cirrhosa beds and filamentous algal mats in the lower reaches of this system. Other affected taxa included crustaceans, especially isopods, and large numbers of small bivalves attached to macrophyte vegetation. Beneficiaries of the fish kill, in terms of unexpected food availability, included a variety of piscivorous bird species and the Cape clawless otter Aonyx capensis. Summary Upper Triassic to Lower Jurassic shallow-water carbonate sequences of the ‘Pantokrator limestones’ are widely distributed
in the Argolis Peninsula, southern Greece. Within this sequence are some reef or reefal structures. In the Mavrovouni Mountains,
near Sarmeika, 6 km SE of the ancient theatre of Epidavros (Argolis Peninsula), a Norian-Rhaetian reef complex has been identified.
This is the first well-documented Norian-Rhaetian reef in Greece. The main reef builders are coralline sponges (‘sphinctozoans,’
‘inozoans’, and sclerosponges), followed by dendroid, cerioid, and solitary corals, and algae. The reef type corresponds to

The toxic effects of sucrose and glucose upon Hordeum vulgare L. ev Igri microspore cultures were investigated. It was concluded from this study that: -microspores could be cultured in the presence of low concentrations of glucose without any deleterious effects upon cell viability, but the microspores did not form embryos or calluses. -microspores died when incubated in the presence of 40 mM glucose during the first 2 of days of incubation, but, if glucose was added after this period, cells went on to produce embryos or calluses. -the toxic effects of sucrose upon cultured microspores were irreversible after 6 h from the start of incubation. Molecular clocks are routinely tested for linearity using a relative rate
test and routinely calibrated against the geological time scale using a
single or average paleontologically determined time of divergence between
living taxa. The relative rate test is a test of parallel rate equality,
not a test of rate constancy. Temporal scaling provides a test of rates,
where scaling coefficients of 1.0 (isochrony) represent stochastic rate
constancy. The fossil record of primates and other mammals is now known in
sufficient detail to provide several independent divergence times for major
taxonomic groups. Molecular difference should scale negatively or
isochronically (scaling coefficients less than 1.0) with divergence time:
where two or more divergence times are available, molecular difference
appears to scale positively (scaling coefficient greater than 1.0). A
minimum of four divergence times are required for adequate statistical
power in testing the linear model: scaling is significantly nonlinear and
positive in six of 11 published investigations meeting this criterion. All
groups studied show some slowdown in rates of molecular change over
Cenozoic time. The break from constant or increasing rates during the
Mesozoic to decreasing rates during the Cenozoic appears to coincide with
extraordinary diversification of placental mammals at the beginning of this
era. High rates of selectively neutral molecular change may be concentrated
in such discrete events of evolutionary diversification.

The bird collection of the Instituto de Investigação Cientítica Tropical (Lisbon, Portugal) holds 5598 preserved specimens (skins), mainly from Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, São Tomé and Principe, and Cape Verde. The subset collection from Angola includes 1560 specimens, which were taxonomically revised and georeferenced for the publication of this data paper. The collection contains a total of 522 taxa, including 161 species and 361 subspecies. Two species are classified by the IUCN Red List as Endangered - the wattled crane (Grus carunculata) and the Gabela bush-shrike (Laniarius amboimensis) - and two are classified as vulnerable - African penguin (Spheniscus demersus) and the white-headed vulture (Trigonoceps occipitalis). The temporal span of the database ranges between 1943 and 1979, but 32% are from years 1958–1959, and 25% from years 1968–1969. The spatial coverage of the collection is uneven, with 2/3 of the records representing only four of the eighteen provinces of the country, namely Huíla, Moxico, Namibe and Cuanza Sul. It adds, however, valuable information for the Huíla area of the Angolan Scarp, which is probably a biodiversity hotspot of global conservation priority. Furthermore, this georeferenced database adds invaluable bird information to the GBIF network, for one of the countries with highest but less known biodiversity in Africa. 相似文献
