Induction and rapid repair of sister-chromatid exchanges in multiple murine tissues in vivo by diepoxybutane

Sister-chromatid exchange (SCE) induction by the direct-acting bifunctional carcinogen, diepoxybutane (DEB), was investigated in multiple tissues in vivo. The log-log dose SCE response relationship was found to be parallel to that previously reported for DEB induction of lung adenomas. However, the SCE assay is approximately 20 times as sensitive in detecting genotoxic effects of DEB than indicated by the lung adenoma assay. Examination of second and third division cells following various treatment protocols revealed that regardless of the nature of initially induced lesions, they are rapidly repaired with no evidence of persistence beyond 1 cell cycle.     

Effect of Temperature on the Potential and Current Thresholds of Axon Membrane

The effect of temperature on the potential and current thresholds of the squid giant axon membrane was measured with gross external electrodes. A central segment of the axon, 0.8 mm long and in sea water, was isolated by flowing low conductance, isoosmotic sucrose solution on each side; both ends were depolarized in isoosmotic KCl. Measured biphasic square wave currents at five cycles per second were applied between one end of the nerve and the membrane of the central segment. The membrane potential was recorded between the central sea water and the other depolarized end. The recorded potentials are developed only across the membrane impedance. Threshold current values ranged from 3.2 µa at 267deg;C to 1 µa at 7.5°C. Threshold potential values ranged from 50 mv at 26°C to 6 mv at 7.5°C. The mean Q₁₀ of threshold current was 2.3 (SD = 0.2), while the Q₁₀ for threshold potentials was 2.0 (SD = 0.1).     

Changes in the biological activity of agropyrene on combined application with humus substances in the cultivation ofScenedesmus obliquus (TURP.) krüger

The work is concerned with the question of the effect of humic acids on the biological action of agropyrene, the effective substance from the rootstock of Agropyron repens (L.) P. BEAUV. The test organism was the alga Scenedesmus obliquus (TURP.) KRÜGER, cultivated in mineral solution. The basic biological test was the determination of the number and size of the cells of this alga. It was found that the way in which agropyrene acts on combined application with humus acids depends on which humus fraction is used. It can display a synergic action if humic acid is used, since this substance probably facilitates the penetration of agropyrene into the cells. On the other hand, fulvic acid counteracts the activity of agropyrene and this most probably by mutual binding and blocking of active groups and links.     

Factors Controlling the Production of Lysogenic Cultures of B. megatherium

(1) The proportion of infected B. megatherium cells which develop lysogenic colonies depends on the number and kind of infecting virus particles and on the culture medium in which the cells are growing. (2) Cells infected with 100 or more T virus particles (from megatherium 899) in yeast extract peptone disintegrate, produce very few virus particles, and less than one lysogenic colony per 10⁷ infected cells. Cells infected with one or a few particles produce 500 to 1000 virus particles each and about 30 lysogenic colonies per 10⁷ infected colonies. (3) T phage obtained from lysogenic magatherium KM cultures produces many more lysogenic cells than does the original megatherium 899 virus. (4) Cells infected with megatherium 899 T virus in peptone medium and then transferred to asparagine medium give rise to 10⁶ lysogenic colonies per 10⁷ infected cells and this transformation will occur even after the infected cells have been in peptone for 60 to 90 minutes and are beginning to produce virus particles. (5) Continued growth of KM strain with either C or T virus from megatherium 899 for several hundred generations in the steady state apparatus results in a lysogenic strain which produces several different types of virus.     

脊髓灰质炎病毒中Ⅰ9株基因组克隆及其部分结构分析

以脊髓灰质炎病毒RNA为模板,反转录合成了长链ds-cDNA。将合成的脊灰病毒中I9株ds—cDNA片段重组到质粒pAT153上,获得了约占脊灰病毒中I9基因组95％以上的cDNA克隆。对克隆的中I9cDNA部分片段作了限制性内切酶图谱分析和部分核酸的序列分析,发现脊灰病毒中I9部分核酸顺序有所改变。     

一个酵母新种——杭州毕赤酵母

本文报道了从腐梨上分离到的一株未见描述的毕赤酵母属新种(Pichia hangzhou-ana Lu et Li),并讨论了与其近似种的区别。同时进行了DNA G+C百分比值的测定。     

蚕豆叶片发育与衰老过程中超氧物歧化酶活性与丙二醛含量变化

蚕豆植株叶片随茎节自上而下表现出明显的发育与衰老顺序,可作为衰老特征的是叶绿素和蛋白质含量明显下降。蚕豆叶中SOD活性主要定位于12 000× g离心后所得的上清液和叶绿体组分。衰老叶片的SOD总活性和叶绿体组分的相对活性都有所下降,SOD同工酶谱也发生了改变。O_2~ 产生速率随叶龄增大而稍上升;而MDA含量在叶片外观表现枯黄衰老征兆前就急剧上升。可能因为衰老叶片过氧化氢酶活性大幅度下降与SOD之间的不平衡,致使O_2~ 代谢中间产物累积而引起膜的损伤.     

光对尾穗苋幼苗内苋红素合成的诱导

不同苗龄的尾穗苋黄化苗对10 min,15Wm~(-2)白光的反应能力不同。光诱导的苋红素合成始于播种后第 20h,至50h合成能力最大,82h以后幼苗对短时光照的反应能力趋于消失。苋红素合成的滞后期为3h,光处理后18h色素积累达到高峰。光调节苋红素合成符合红光—远红光可逆诱导反应等两个基本模式,确证光敏色素参与调控苋红素合成.
