With the aim of correlating the pericarp structure with current phylogenies of Myrteae, this study describes the ontogeny in five species included in five out of the six South American clades of the tribe. In these taxa, the outer and inner ovarian epidermis gives rise to the exocarp and the endocarp, respectively, both with 1 layer. In the mesocarp, derived from the ovarian mesophyll, secretory cavities are arranged into a circle just below the exocarp and near the endocarp in Campomanesia adamantium; only below the exocarp in Eugenia pitanga and Myrcia multiflora; more internally in Myrciaria cuspidata, and below the exocarp and throughout the mesophyll in Myrceugenia alpigena. The promising traits for phylogenetic studies in the group include: direction of elongation of pericarp layers, regions that develop most in relation to the circle of larger vascular bundles, differentiation of spongy and sclerenchymatous tissues and position of secretory cavities. 相似文献

Non-indigenous plants exhibit different attributes that make them aggressive competitors with indigenous plants and serious threats to biodiversity.Senecio madagascariensis (fireweed, Asteraceae), a native from southern Africa, is a strong competitor in agricultural activities and has toxic alkaloids that may result in high cattle mortality. In Brazil, this weed was collected for the first time in 1995 and has since spread quickly throughout the Pampas region. To better understand the invasion of the fireweed in South America, we used a genetic characterization with internal transcribed spacer (ITS) and microsatellite markers. Based on the ITS data, the southern Brazil populations of S. madagascariensis shared genetic homology with samples taken from the Hawaiian Islands and South Africa. Microsatellite analysis showed the genetic diversity split in two clusters, perhaps intimating the independent introduction of each species into South America. Although fireweed was introduced recently in southern Brazil, the considerable levels of genetic diversity, gene flow, and inbreeding may indicate success in the species establishment in this environment. 相似文献

In previous reports, we have shown that interleukin 1 (IL1), a cytokine associated with implantation in mice, is also expressed in reproductive tissues of viviparous squamate reptiles and cartilaginous fishes. In the present study, we investigated the expression of IL1B and its functional membrane receptor type I (IL1R1) in amphibians, a class of vertebrates that is characterized by different reproductive modes, including internal and external fertilization. In particular, we investigated the oviductal tissues of the aplacental viviparous Salamandra lanzai, the oviparous Triturus carnifex, and the ovuliparous Bufo bufo. In immunohistochemistry with anti-human IL1B and IL1R1 polyclonal antibodies we found that in S. lanzai, most cells in the uterine mucosa were immunoreactive for IL1B and IL1R1. In T. carnifex, IL1B and IL1R1 were present in ciliated luminal cells, and there was evidence of IL1B in glandular cells. In B. bufo, the expression of IL1B and IL1R1 was limited to the apical cytoplasm of the ciliated oviductal cells. Western blot analysis showed that a putative mature form of IL1B, similar to that seen in mammals, was present in the oviductal tissues of S. lanzai, whereas different forms, which probably correspond to an inactive pro-IL1B protein, were found in T. carnifex and B. bufo. A band that corresponded to the predicted 80-kDa human IL1R1 was found in S. lanzai and T. carnifex. Although the present study shows that IL1B and IL1R1 expression occurs in all reproductive modes, the differential expression patterns noted between ovuliparity and oviparity and viviparity may reflect the different roles of IL1 in the various reproductive modes. 相似文献

The present study evaluates sequence conservation in the gene coding for nitrite reductase (aniA) and AniA expression from a panel of Neisseria meningitidis isolates. Sequence analysis of the coding region in 19 disease-associated and 4 carrier strains notwithstanding a high degree of sequence similarity showed a number of nucleotide changes, some of which possibly resulted in premature translation termination or function loss. In particular, in one disease-associated strain a 9-residues insertion was found to be located close to the type I Cu-site and a catalytic histidine at position 280 was mutated into a leucine. In two strains from carriers, a sequence corresponding to a portion of a transposase gene within the aniA was also found. The AniA protein was always expressed, except for these two carriers strains and for other two strains in which the presence of the premature stop codons was recognized. The biochemical properties of the cloned soluble domain of the enzyme (sAniA) from N. meningitidis reference MC58 strain and from a clinical invasive isolate were studied. In particular, biochemical analysis of sAniA from MC58 demonstrated a clear dependence of its catalytic activity upon acidification, while the clinical isolate-derived sAniA was not functional. Thus, the results obtained suggest that the presence of a conserved and functional aniA gene is not essential for meningococcal survival. 相似文献

Onychomycosis is a dermatological problem of high prevalence that mainly affects the hallux toenail. Onychomycosis caused by the yeast Rhodotorula mucilaginosa was identified using colony morphology, light microscopy, urease and carbohydrate metabolism in a 57-year-old immunocompetent patient from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. High-resolution scanning electron microscopy of nail fragments, processed by a noncoating method, led to the observation with fine detail of the structures of both nail and fungus involved in the infection. Yeasts were mainly found inside grooves in the nail. Budding yeasts presented a spiral pattern of growth and blastoconidia were found in the nail groove region. Keratinase assays and keratin enzymography revealed that this isolate was highly capable of degrading keratin. Antifungal susceptibility tests showed that the fungus was susceptible to low concentrations of amphotericin B and 5-flucytosine and resistant to high concentrations of fluconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole and terbinafine. These findings showed data for the first time concerning the interaction of R. mucilaginosa in toenail infection and suggest that this emerging yeast should also be considered an opportunistic primary causative agent of onychomycosis. 相似文献

Several thieno[3,4-d]pyrimidine derivatives, including four hitherto unknown 2′,3′-dideoxy- and 2′,3′-dideoxy-2′,3′-didehydro-C-nucleoside analogues of adenosine and inosine have been synthesized. When evaluated in cell culture experiments against human immunodeficiency virus, none of the tested compounds exhibited any significant antiviral effect, while two of them showed some cytotoxicity. 相似文献

In this work hemagglutinating activity (HA) was investigated in distinct Moringa oleifera tissue extracts. A new lectin from seeds (cMoL) was purified and characterized; hemagglutinating and coagulating activities were evaluated. HA was detected in 0.15 M NaCl extracts from flowers and rachis inflorescence (5%, w/v), seeds, leaves, fundamental tissue of stem and steam bark (10%, w/v). cMoL isolated after saline extraction and guar gel column chromatography was active at pH range 4.0–9.0 agglutinating erythrocytes from rabbit and human blood types. Extracts of tissues and cMoL activities were carbohydrate inhibited; azocasein and asialofetuin abolished cMoL HA. The lectin was thermostable at 100 °C during 7 h. Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis under reduced conditions revealed a main polypeptide band of 26.5 kDa; native basic cMoL was detected as a unique band. Seed lectin preparations and cMoL showed coagulant activity, similar to aluminium sulphate, the coagulant most widely used in water treatment. 相似文献
