Between August 2001 and May 2002, the prevalence and several epidemiological and clinical characteristics of pityriasis versicolor (PV) were studied in 902 individuals aged two months- 60 years, 426 females and 476 males, from a fishery community of Río Seco, a semiarid region in the state of Falcon, north-western Venezuela. The overall prevalence of the disease was 15.52% (140/902). The frequency of infection was higher in females (65.7% vs. 34.3%), children under one year of age and adolescents (27.9% y 32.1%, respectively), and dark skin (67.9%). The most commonly affected anatomical areas were the face (57.9%) and thorax (27.1%). The most important clinical features of the disease were: hypochromic (91.4%), multicentric (73.6%), pruritic (92.9%), fine scaled (80.7%) and irregularly shaped borders (91.4%). On the basis of these results, the possible risk factors on transmission dynamic and maintenance of the disease endemically is discussed. 相似文献

Demographic studies of endemic and threatened plant species are essential for establishing effective conservation strategies. This paper aims to determine the structure and dynamics of the only natural population reported for Zamia inermis. All individuals were mapped to determine the spatial structure and patterns of association between categories and sexes. Matrix analysis were conducted to determine the population dynamics based on three on-site visits. The population is distributed randomly, although seedlings were found to be aggregated at all scales, juveniles are aggregated in smaller radii up to 4.5 m and males at radii above 3.5 m. Seedlings and juveniles are associated with males over greater radii of 3 m, the dependence of adults from earlier categories and females is less than 1.5 m. The population growth rate confirms that the population is in decline (λ = 0.963 ± 0.011). Although few juveniles were identified and no seedling survival was observed in the field, also the amount of viable seeds per female cone is low. However, inhabitants of the region are cultivating the species by germinating seeds in backyard nurseries with 92 of 954 seeds reaching the juvenile category to date. It is clear that the population has lost its regenerative potential and is simply holding on to persistence of adults, this implies a great risk to the species. Effects of salinity (NaCl) and the carbon source mannitol (0–200 mM) on micropropagation of pineapple cv. MD2 were analyzed in temporary immersion bioreactors (TIBs). Shoot multiplication rate, shoot cluster fresh weight and levels of aldehydes, chlorophylls, carotenoids and phenolics were determined in the plant material. The content of soluble phenolics in the culture medium was also evaluated. NaCl or mannitol above concentrations of 50 mM decreased pineapple shoot multiplication and fresh weight significantly. Two hundred mM NaCl decreased multiplication rate by 71.5% and cluster fresh weight by 40.0%. NaCl increased 2.4 times the levels of other aldehydes; 1.4 times the soluble phenolics in shoots; and 1.4 times the phenolics excreted to the culture medium. On the other hand, mannitol decreased the multiplication rate and cluster fresh weight by about 60%. Mannitol increased the contents of chlorophyll b 1.4 times and soluble phenolics 2.1 times. Results indicated that pineapple cv. MD2 is more sensitive to NaCl than to mannitol. Multiplication rates indicate that a 50% reduction was obtained with 37.4 mM NaCl and 66.5 mM mannitol. These concentrations can be used to stress shoots during micropropagation in TIBs and screen for/detect somaclonal variants with an increased salinity or drought tolerance. 相似文献

We report on the clinical observation of a girl patient with few signs of cri-du-chat syndrome. The chromosomal analysis in
lymphocyte culture showed 46,XX,del(5)(p15.3) in 38% of cells. Psychological tests revealed motor, perceptive and visual-spatial
problems, as well as immaturity and emotional dependence. The phoniatric evaluation showed poor vocabulary, difficulty with
repeating words or numbers in sequence, and better receptive than expressive language. The spectrographic measurements showed
disturbance of fundamental frequency (F0) in vocal pronunciation. The anatomic findings of the laryngoscopic evaluation were normal, indicating that the voice and
speech problems were functional disorders. The present case revealed moderate clinical signs and vocal disturbance associated
with a low percentage of 5p-cells and the breakpoint at 5p15.3. The short terminal deletion with a possible loss of the critical
region for cat-like cry and the presence of a normal cell line, explain the cry not so typical at birth (weak but not high-pitched),

We have focused our interest on the tetrapyridoacridine ligand tetrapyrido[3,2-a:2',3'-c:3',2'-h: 2',3'-j]acridine (tpac), as a model system for the preparation of novel copper-based artificial nucleases. The complex of copper(II)-tpac cleaves supercoiled pUC18 plasmid DNA in an oxidative manner by photoactivation with visible light, exhibiting maximum cleaving efficiency at 1:2 metal-ligand stoichiometric ratio. Polar auxin transport (PAT) is necessary for the formation of adventitious roots in the base of leafy stem cuttings, as has been demonstrated in several studies in which the application of PAT inhibitors strongly inhibited the rooting of cuttings. However, unlike in the case of lateral roots, there is almost no information on the molecular mechanism that controls PAT in the formation of adventitious roots. A novel cDNA encoding an auxin influx carrier has been isolated and characterized from carnation (Dianthus caryophyllus) cuttings. The full length of DcAUX1 was obtained and the deduced aminoacid sequence revealed a high degree of identity with the corresponding auxin carrier proteins from several species. The expression of this gene depended on the organ, the carnation cultivar and the length of time cuttings had been stored in a cold chamber. As a rule, expression was higher in stem than in leaves, in the basal than in the first internode and in mature than in young leaves irrespective of the cultivar and the duration of the storage. This pattern of expression agrees with the results of a previous study showing that auxin from mature leaves was essential for rooting, while exogenous auxin applied to mature leaves was polarly transported in the stem and accumulated in the basal internode (the rooting zone). Variations in the expression observed during storage (depending of the cultivar) might be related to the variation in PAT and rooting reported in previous studies. 相似文献
