Incubation of Strelitzia juncea seeds in an oxygen atmosphereresulted in an increase in the G6PDH activity of crude embryoextracts on day one, while radicle protrusion started on dayfive. Similarly, 6PGDH activity increased over the first 4 dof incubation in oxygen. The ratio of 6PGDH/G6PDH was 3.0<x < 3.7 regardless of treatment or incubation period. Supplying oxygen per se to dormant seed and studying its effecton the activity of the two key pentose phosphate (PP) pathwayenzymes, appear to support Roberts' hypothesis that oxygen shortagerestricts PP pathway activity in dormant seeds. The pioneering research of Harold Flor on flax and the flax rust fungus culminated in his gene-for-gene hypothesis. It took nearly 50 years before the first fungal avirulence ( Avr ) gene in support of his hypothesis was cloned. Initially, fungal Avr genes were identified by reverse genetics and map-based cloning from model organisms, but, currently, the availability of many sequenced fungal genomes allows their cloning from additional fungi by a combination of comparative and functional genomics. It is believed that most Avr genes encode effectors that facilitate virulence by suppressing pathogen-associated molecular pattern-triggered immunity and induce effector-triggered immunity in plants containing cognate resistance proteins. In resistant plants, effectors are directly or indirectly recognized by cognate resistance proteins that reside either on the plasma membrane or inside the plant cell. Indirect recognition of an effector (also known as the guard model) implies that the virulence target of an effector in the host (the guardee) is guarded by the resistance protein (the guard) that senses manipulation of the guardee, leading to activation of effector-triggered immunity. In this article, we review the literature on fungal effectors and some pathogen-associated molecular patterns, including those of some fungi for which no gene-for-gene relationship has been established. 相似文献

The scarcity of liquid water in the hyperarid core of the Atacama Desert makes this region one of the most challenging environments for life on Earth. The low numbers of microbial cells in the soils suggest that within the Atacama Desert lies the dry limit for life on our planet. Here, we show that the Ca‐sulfate crusts of this hyperarid core are the habitats of lithobiontic micro‐organisms. This microporous, translucent substrate is colonized by epilithic lichens, as well as endolithic free‐living algae, fungal hyphae, cyanobacteria and non photosynthetic bacteria. We also report a novel type of endolithic community, “hypoendoliths”, colonizing the undermost layer of the crusts. The colonization of gypsum crusts within the hyperarid core appears to be controlled by the moisture regime. Our data shows that the threshold for colonization is crossed within the dry core, with abundant colonization in gypsum crusts at one study site, while crusts at a drier site are virtually devoid of life. We show that the cumulative time in 1 year of relative humidity (RH) above 60% is the best parameter to explain the difference in colonization between both sites. This is supported by controlled humidity experiments, where we show that colonies of endolithic cyanobacteria in the Ca‐sulfate crust undergo imbibition process at RH >60%. Assuming that life once arose on Mars, it is conceivable that Martian micro‐organisms sought refuge in similar isolated evaporite microenvironments during their last struggle for life as their planet turned arid. 相似文献

Isolation and characterization of microsatellite loci in tropical forage Stylosanthes capitata Vogel
Stylosanthes capitata is an important tropical pasture legume. Knowledge of genetic diversity and structure of S. capitata populations is of great importance for the conservation and germplasm management of this species. Thus, eight microsatellite markers were developed from an S. capitata-enriched library. They were characterized in 20 accessions from the germplasm collection of the Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa). The observed and expected heterozygosities ranged from 0.16 to 0.85 and from 0.40 to 0.85, respectively. These microsatellites are the first set of molecular markers from this species and will contribute towards studies of genetic diversity, conservation and breeding of S. capitata. 相似文献

Mitotic or meiotic chromosome studies are reported for 39 species or subspecies of Oxalis from South America belonging to 14 sections. Chromosome numbers of 34 of these taxa are reported for the first time. Diploids and polyploids with six different basic chromosome numbers x=5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 11 are described. Thirteen species of subgenus lhamnoxys were analysed and two new basic chromosome numbers were observed in diploid entities of this subgenus, x = 6 and x=9. The underground stem-bearing entities of Oxalis subgenus Oxalis studied (in sections Articulatae, Jonoxalis and Palmatifoliae) are mostly diploids and polyploids with a basic chromosome number x=7. Five species of section Carnosa are diploids with x = 9. In species of sections Rosea, Ortgieseae, Clematodes and Laxae the basic chromosome numbers x = 6, 7, 8 and 9 were observed. Groups of related species sharing the same chromosome number are discussed with the aim of improving the infrageneric delimitation of the genus. The basic chromosome number x=6 seems to be primitive in the genus and other basic chromosome numbers probably appeared several times in the course of chromosome evolution of Oxalis . 相似文献

In this contribution a new representative of the taxon Meidiama Marcus, 1946, Meidiama uruguayensis sp. nov. , from Uruguay, is described, as are six more new species, for which three new genera are proposed: Dreuxiola philippi gen. nov. sp. nov. , from the French subantarctic archipelago Kerguelen; Yorknia aprostatica gen. nov. sp. nov. ; Serrula byronensis gen. nov. sp. nov. ; Serrula maxillaria sp. nov. ; Serrula concharum sp. nov. ; and Serrula acuta sp. nov. , from eastern Australia and Tasmania. Arguments are presented to propose a new taxon to contain these new species, rather than include them in the Archimonocelididae Meixner, 1938 (of which Meidiama has been considered a member so far), as well as to remove the Calviriinae Martens & Curini‐Galletti from the Archimonocelididae to become a separate taxon Calviriidae. Possible autapomorphies for the three families are discussed.
