Background  

DAX1 (NR0B1), a member of the nuclear receptors super family, has been shown to be involved in the genetic sex determination and in gonadal differentiation in several vertebrate species. In the aquaculture fish European sea bass, Dicentrarchus labrax, and in the generality of fish species, the mechanisms of sex determination and differentiation have not been elucidated. The present study aimed at characterizing the European DAX1 gene and its developmental expression at the mRNA level.  相似文献

Background

Marine cleaning interactions in which cleaner fish or shrimps remove parasites from visiting 'client' reef fish are a textbook example of mutualism. However, there is yet no conclusive evidence that cleaning organisms significantly improve the health of their clients. We tested the stress response of wild caught individuals of two client species, Chromis dimidiata and Pseudanthias squamipinnis, that had either access to a cleaner wrasse Labroides dimidiatus, or to cleaner shrimps Stenopus hispidus and Periclimenes longicarpus, or no access to cleaning organisms.

Results

For both client species, we found an association between the presence of cleaner organisms and a reduction in the short term stress response of client fish to capture, transport and one hour confinement in small aquaria, as measured with cortisol levels.

Conclusion

It is conceivable that individuals who are more easily stressed than others pay a fitness cost in the long run. Thus, our data suggest that marine cleaning mutualisms are indeed mutualistic. More generally, measures of stress responses or basal levels may provide a useful tool to assess the impact of interspecific interactions on the partner species.  相似文献

Some aspects on the action of vegetable and animal oils and fatty acids on growth and protease synthesis of T. vulgaris were studied to interpret the stimulating effect of these substance. It was found that oil does not influence the hydrolysis of the substrate casein by the protease. However, the effect on the gas exchange during fermentation has a substantial importance. A specific protein—an inhibitor of Colletotrichum lindemuthianum protease—was isolated from kidney bean seeds in a homogeneous form. The purification procedure included gel filtration, isoelectric focusing and affinity chromatography on trypsin-Sepharose column. Two proteolytic enzymes, protease A and protease B, were isolated in homogeneous state from the cultural broth of the thermophilic actinomycete Micromonospora vulgaris 42. Their physicochemical properties were studied, i.e., molecular weight (50 000 for protease A and 30 000 for protease B), amino acid composition, N-terminal amino acids (phenylalanine for protease A and alanine for protease B). The 1.25-kb heterochromatic Stellate repeats of Drosophila melanogaster are capable of stably persisting in transgenic constructs and silencing the white reporter gene (mosaic position effect variegation). This system reveals an unusual form of silencing, which is insensitive to known modifiers of position effect variegation. The unusual form of silencing was studied with yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae, a simple eukaryotic model. To be transferred into yeast cells, the D. melanogaster Stellate repeats were cloned in the pYAC4 centromeric vector (CEN4, URA3, TRP1, HIS3). The HIS3 and/or URA3 genes could be inactive in plasmids consisting of pYAC4 and the Stellate insert in yeast cells. Deletion of D. melanogaster DNA from the plasmid was found to activate the URA3 and HIS3 genes. It was assumed that the genes were repressed rather than damaged in the presence of the Stellate repeats and that a new form of gene silencing was revealed in S. cerevisiae.  相似文献

Cu(II) complexes with 4,6-di(tert-butyl)-2-aminophenol (I) and 2-anilino-4,6-di(tert-butyl)phenol (II) have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analysis, TG/DTA, FT-IR, UV-vis, ESR, and conductance measurements. The compounds I and II can coordinate in their singly deprotonated forms and behave as bidentate O,N-coordinated ligands; their CuL(2) complexes are characterized by CuN(2)O(2) coordination modes and square planar geometry. In vitro antimicrobial screening against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, yeasts, and moulds indicated that the compound I and its Cu(II) complex were more active than Questiomycin B, the compound II, and its Cu(II) complex.  相似文献

The experimental study of the prophylactic efficacy of Triazaverin against the experimental form of the influenza virus A (H5N1) on albino mice intranasally infected with the influenza virus A/Chicken/Kurgan/Russia/02/05 vs. the reference drugs Tamiflu, Remantadin and Arbidol showed that in doses of 1 to 100 mg/kg it was efficient in the animal protection from death. The drug was also efficient in the urgent prophylaxis. Triazaverin effectively inhibited the influenza A virus multiplication in the lungs of the albino mice.  相似文献
