Stimulation of native microbial populations in soil by the addition of small amounts of secondary carbon sources (cosubstrates) and its effect on the degradation and theoretical mineralization of DDT [l,l,l-trichloro-2,2-bis(p-chlorophenyl)ethane] and its main metabolites, DDD and DDE, were evaluated. Microbial activity in soil polluted with DDT, DDE and DDD was increased by the presence of phenol, hexane and toluene as cosubstrates. The consumption of DDT was increased from 23 % in a control (without cosubstrate) to 67, 59 and 56 % in the presence of phenol, hexane and toluene, respectively. DDE was completely removed in all cases, and DDD removal was enhanced from 67 % in the control to ~86 % with all substrates tested, except for acetic acid and glucose substrates. In the latter cases, DDD removal was either inhibited or unchanged from the control. The optimal amount of added cosubstrate was observed to be between 0.64 and 2.6 mg C $ {\text{g}}^{ - 1}_{\text{dry soil}} $ . The CO2 produced was higher than the theoretical amount for complete cosubstrate mineralization indicating possible mineralization of DDT and its metabolites. Bacterial communities were evaluated by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis, which indicated that native soil and the untreated control presented a low bacterial diversity. The detected bacteria were related to soil microorganisms and microorganisms with known biodegradative potential. In the presence of toluene a bacterium related to Azoarcus, a genus that includes species capable of growing at the expense of aromatic compounds such as toluene and halobenzoates under denitrifying conditions, was detected.  相似文献

The effects of streptozotocin induced diabetes (50 mg/Kg) on the circadian rhythms in the excretion of sodium and potassium as well as their plasma concentration rhythms were investigated. Control (C) and diabetic (D) rats were studied during a light-dark (12h:12h) cycle and fed ad libitum. Statistically significant circadian rhythms were found for sodium and potassium excretion in C rats. The orthophases of both rhythms occurred in the dark phase, the potassium one occurring before that of sodium. In D rats there is increased excretion of both sodium and potassium with the rhythmicity maintained for sodium excretion only, which has an earlier orthophase than in the C rats. Plasma sodium and potassium concentrations showed a statistically significant circadian pattern in C rats, with orthophase in the light phase. This rhythmicity only appears in plasma potassium concentration for D rats, with orthophase at the end of the dark phase. The results in diabetic rats may suggest that the glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and/or tubular reabsorption rhythms are still contributing to the sodium excretory rhythm, and that the loss of the circadian rhythm in sodium plasma concentration has no influence on the sodium excretion rhythm. Nevertheless, the loss of the potassium excretion rhythm may suggest a disruption of the variations in the secretory process, as this excretion seems to be independent of the plasma potassium concentration rhythm, which is not lost in D rats.  相似文献

The mathematical and statistical advances in fitting stock assessment models enabled the emergence of the paradigm of “integrated analysis”, which fits all available data to a single model of population dynamics that traditionally has total catch as the only forcing function of the system. This approach, however, allowed us to include, in a flexible way, the effect of hydrological regime as an additional forcing function. We tried to achieve this flexibility by making the annual recruitment rates and spawning biomass adjustable to the attributes of the hydrological cycle data. Our models showed that these attributes are influential in the population dynamics of Brycon hilarii of the Northern Pantanal, and their inclusion in the models allowed best partial fits (which considered fits only to the data components length- and age-compositions, CPUE of juveniles and adults) than the Base-case (without hydrological attributes). The best partial fits where obtained when the attributes “delay of floods” and “intensity of floods” were forcing the spawning biomass and the annual recruitment respectively, indicating that these characteristics of the population may be influenced by specific attributes of the water level. The use of integrated modeling contributed with the advancement of population ecology knowledge of rheophilic fish. It is recommended that freshwater fisheries management be integrated into the hydrology management.  相似文献

Background and objectives

Secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) in CKD is associated with an increased risk for mortality, but definitive data showing that parathormone control decreases mortality is still lacking. This study aimed to compare the mortality of patients with severe SHPT submitted to parathyroidectomy(PTX) with those who did not have access to surgery.

Methods

This is a retrospective study in a cohort of 251 CKD patients with severe SHPT who were referred to a CKD-MBD Center for PTX from 2005 until 2012.

Results

Most of our patients had indication of PTX, but only 49% of them had access to this surgical procedure. After a mean follow-up of 23 months, 72 patients had died. Non-survivors were older; more often had diabetes, lower serum 25 vitamin D and mostly had not been submitted to surgery. The relative risk of death was lower in the PTX patients (0.428; 95% CI, 0.28 to 0.67; p<0.0001). After adjustments, mortality risk was dependent on age (1.04; 95% CI, 1.01 to 1.07; p = 0.002), 25 vitamin D (0.43; 95% CI, 0.24 to 0.81; p = 0.006) and no access to PTX (4.13; 95% CI, 2.16 to 7.88; p<0.0001). Results remained the same in a second model using the PTX date as the study start date for the PTX group.

Conclusions

Our data confirms the benefit of PTX on mortality in patients with severe SHPT. The high mortality encountered in our population is significant and urges the need to better treat these patients.  相似文献

From the leaves of Ageratina cylindrica, in addition to the described [(2S)‐2‐{4‐formyl‐5‐hydroxy‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]phenyl}oxiran‐2‐yl]methyl benzoate (cylindrinol A, 8 ), seven new thymol derivatives were isolated and named cylindrinols B – H ( 1 – 7 ). The structures of these compounds were established as (2‐{4‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]phenyl}oxiran‐2‐yl)methyl benzoate ( 1 ), (2‐{4‐formyl‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]phenyl}oxiran‐2‐yl)methyl benzoate ( 2 ), (2‐{4‐[(acetyloxy)methyl]‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]phenyl}oxiran‐2‐yl)methyl benzoate ( 3 ), [2‐(2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]‐4‐{[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]methyl}phenyl)oxiran‐2‐yl]methyl benzoate ( 4 ), [2‐(5‐hydroxy‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]‐4‐{[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]methyl}phenyl)oxiran‐2‐yl]methyl benzoate ( 5 ), 2‐{4‐(hydroxymethyl)‐2‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]phenyl}prop‐2‐en‐1‐yl benzoate ( 6 ), and 2‐hydroxy‐2‐[2‐hydroxy‐4‐(hydroxymethyl)‐phenyl]‐3‐[(2‐methylpropanoyl)oxy]propyl benzoate ( 7 ), by spectroscopic means. Compounds 1 showed moderate antiprotozoal activity on both protozoa. Compounds 4 and 5 showed selectivity on Giardia lamblia trophozoites. All isolated compounds were less active than two antiprotozoal drugs, metronidazole and emetine, used as positive controls. Compound 5 exhibited a high inhibitory effect on hyperpropulsive movement of the small intestine in rats; its effect was best than loperamide, antidiarrheal drug used as a positive control.  相似文献

Prodiplosis longifila Gagné (Diptera: Cecidomyiidae) is an insect pest that attacks various types of crops, including tomato, Solanum lycopersicum L. (Solanaceae), a vegetable with substantial economic significance worldwide. Prodiplosis longifila is a widely distributed pest in Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru, countries characterized by the presence of significant geographic barriers like the Andes Mountains. It has been reported that geographic barriers affect the dynamics and genetic differentiation of insect populations. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the diversity, genetic structure, and demographic history of P. longifila through the analysis of sequences within the mitochondrial region of cytochrome oxidase I (COI) and rDNA‐ITS2 in 27 populations located in Colombia and Ecuador. Analyses were performed on populations distributed in three geographic groups separated by the presence of the Andes Mountains. A total of 11 haplotypes were identified with the COI gene and only one haplotype in the rDNA‐ITS2 was found. Analyses of population structure and demographic history revealed that there is a structure associated with the Andes, which is reflected in an uneven distribution of the haplotype frequencies between regions, but even so, gene flow between populations was detected which produces low genetic differentiation. Because P. longifila has a short‐range dispersion that determines its territorial nature, it would be expected that other factors are producing the genetic exchange between populations. We suggest that the anthropogenic effect produced by farming practices, such as the use of seedlings as seed, which may carry P. longifila larvae, cause passive dispersal of pest throughout the Andes, particularly in Colombia.  相似文献
