The aim of this research was to determine whether all memory T cells have the same propensity to migrate to the joint in patients
with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Paired synovial fluid and peripheral blood mononuclear cell proliferative responses to
a panel of antigens were measured and the results correlated with a detailed set of laboratory and clinical data from 39 patients
with juvenile idiopathic arthritis. Two distinct patterns of proliferative response were found in the majority of patients:
a diverse pattern, in which synovial fluid responses were greater than peripheral blood responses for all antigens tested;
and a restricted pattern, in which peripheral blood responses to some antigens were more vigorous than those in the synovial
fluid compartment. The diverse pattern was generally found in patients with a high acute phase response, whereas patients
without elevated acute phase proteins were more likely to demonstrate a restricted pattern. We propose that an association
between the synovial fluid T cell repertoire and the acute phase response suggests that proinflammatory cytokines may influence
recruitment of memory T cells to an inflammatory site, independent of their antigen specificity. Additionally, increased responses
to enteric bacteria and the presence of αEβ7 T cells in synovial fluid may reflect accumulation of gut associated T cells
in the synovial compartment, even in the absence of an elevated acute phase response. This is the first report of an association

Background
Recombinant protein production is universally employed as a solution to obtain the milligram to gram quantities of a given protein required for applications as diverse as structural genomics and biopharmaceutical manufacture. Yeast is a well-established recombinant host cell for these purposes. Two trials of the isolation and enumeration of a given strain of Pseudomonas aeruginosa from water are reported. In each trial participants received concentrated samples from two batches, one with low and one with high counts, to be diluted to 500 ml in sterile distilled or deionized water and examined for Ps. aeruginosa by membrane filtration. Membranes were incubated at 37°C for 48 h on pads soaked in modified King's A broth (MKAB) and Unipath Pseudomonas Agar plus CFC supplement (PCFC). The first trial involved eight Public Health Laboratories (PHL) and the organizers provided media from single batches. The second trial, involving 50 PHL, examined the feasibility of a large scale external quality assessment (EQA) distribution. Participants were invited to use the same two media and their usual medium if different. Average counts were close to expected and the spread of results was comparable to that observed from the EQA scheme for indicator organisms. The nuclear DNAs from a number of angiosperm species were tested for hybridization to the RNAs contained in 70 S (chloroplastic) and 80 S (cytoplasmic) ribosomes. All of the DNAs contained regions complementary to RNAs from chloroplastic as well as cytoplasmic ribosomes. DNAs from closely related plants varied widely in their proportion of coding for these RNAs. About 0.15% of the DNAs from a number of different species of Nicotiana were found to be complementary to the RNAs of each kind of ribosome; however, DNAs from some other members of this genus had more than three times this proportion of coding for ribosomal RNAs. These and other data suggest that hybridization percentage for ribosomal RNA is not a familial or generic characteristic. 相似文献
