Retail organic (n = 198) and conventional (n = 61) chickens were analyzed. Most organic (76%) and conventional (74%) chickens were contaminated with campylobacters. Salmonellae were recovered from 61% of organic and 44% of conventional chickens. All Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium isolates from conventional chickens were resistant to five or more antimicrobials, whereas most S. enterica serovar Typhimurium isolates (79%) from organic chickens were susceptible to 17 antimicrobials tested. 相似文献

Centrins are members of the centrosome protein family, which is highly conserved during revolution. The homologous genes of centrin in many organisms had been cloned, but the sequences of the rat centrin genes were not reported yet in GenBank. We cloned the cDNA fragments of centrin-1, -2 and -3 from the rat testis by RT-PCR, and analyzed the homology of the deduced amino acid sequences. The expression characterization of centrin genes in rat spermato-genesis was carried out by semi-quantitative RT-PCR. The results show that the homology of the corresponding centrin proteins in human, mouse and rat is high. The expression of centrin-1 is testis-specific, spermatogenic cell-specific and developmental stage-related. Centrin-1 begins to be transcribed when the meiosis occurs, and its mRNA level reaches the peak in round spermatids. Centrin-2 and centrin-3 are highly expressed in spermatogonia and their mRNA level decreases markedly when meiosis occurs. These results suggest that centrin-1 may play roles in 相似文献

The biosynthesis of antimicrobial metabolites is controlled by the GacS/GacA two-component regulatory system in Pseudomonas species. The production of phenazine-1-carboxylic acid and pyoluteorin is differentially regulated by GacA in Pseudomonas sp. M18. Pyoluteorin was reduced to nondetectable level in culture of the gacA insertional mutant strain M18G grown in King's medium B broth, whereas phenazine-1-carboxylic acid production was increased 30-fold over that of the wild-type strain. Production of both antibiotics was restored to wild-type levels after complementation in trans with the wild-type gacA gene. Members of the RNase III family are found in all species examined with the exception of archaebacteria, where the functions of RNase III are carried out by the bulge-helix-bulge nuclease (BHB). In bacteria, RNase III contributes to the processing of many noncoding RNAs and directly cleaves several cellular and phage mRNAs. In eukaryotes, orthologs of RNase III participate in the biogenesis of many miRNAs and siRNAs, and this biogenesis initiates the degradation or translational repression of several mRNAs. However, the capacity of eukaryotic RNase IIIs to regulate gene expression by directly cleaving within the coding sequence of mRNAs remains speculative. Here we show that Rnt1p, a member of the RNase III family, selectively inhibits gene expression in baker's yeast by directly cleaving a stem-loop structure within the mRNA coding sequence. Analysis of mRNA expression upon the deletion of Rnt1p revealed an upregulation of the glucose-dependent repressor Mig2p. Mig2p mRNA became more stable upon the deletion of Rnt1p and resisted glucose-dependent degradation. In vitro, Rnt1p cleaved Mig2p mRNA and a silent mutation that disrupts Rnt1p signals blocked Mig2p mRNA degradation. Dipodoidea are a diverse rodent group whose earliest known record is from the Middle Eocene. The evolution and diversification of this superfamily have been documented by fossils and comparative morphology, but have not yet been studied from the perspective of molecular phylogeny. This study is the first attempt to reconstruct an extensive phylogeny of Dipodidae and estimate divergence times based on a nuclear gene coding for interphotoreceptor retinoid-binding protein. We found that there is a wide measure of agreement with the fossil record. Each of the three ecological groups of the extant Dipodoidea (sicistines, zapodines, and jerboas) has its distinctive distribution; the distribution patterns have been shaped by the dispersal events. The key events of paleogeographic distribution coincided with major paleoenvironmental events in the Cenozoic. The first important diversification phase occurred during the period from the Oligocene to Early Miocene, when global climate underwent major changes beginning with the Eocene/Oligocene boundary. The second adaptive radiation occurred within jerboas and was associated with the expansion of open habitat starting with the late Middle Miocene. Recent studies have demonstrated that hydrogen sulfide (H2S) produced through the activity of l -cysteine desulfhydrase (DES1) is an important gaseous signaling molecule in plants that could participate in abscisic acid (ABA)-induced stomatal closure. However, the coupling of the DES1/H2S signaling pathways to guard cell movement has not been thoroughly elucidated. The results presented here provide genetic evidence for a physiologically relevant signaling pathway that governs guard cell in situ DES1/H2S function in stomatal closure. We discovered that ABA-activated DES1 produces H2S in guard cells. The impaired guard cell ABA phenotype of the des1 mutant can be fully complemented when DES1/H2S function has been specifically rescued in guard cells and epidermal cells, but not mesophyll cells. This research further characterized DES1/H2S function in the regulation of LONG HYPOCOTYL1 (HY1, a member of the heme oxygenase family) signaling. ABA-induced DES1 expression and H2S production are hyper-activated in the hy1 mutant, both of which can be fully abolished by the addition of H2S scavenger. Impaired guard cell ABA phenotype of des1/hy1 can be restored by H2S donors. Taken together, this research indicated that guard cell in situ DES1 function is involved in ABA-induced stomatal closure, which also acts as a pivotal hub in regulating HY1 signaling. 相似文献
