Summary Under a general model the genetic heritability is 0.33 for IgA, 0.34 for IgG and 0.12 for IgM, in a Brazilian population with Chagas' disease. Cultural heritability is much smaller. The relation of coronary artery disease to plasma lipoproteins was examined in 104 men aged 35-65 years undergoing coronary angiography for suspected myocardial ischaemia. A score reflecting the number, degree, and length of stenoses in seven major coronary arteries was assigned to each angiogram. Lipid concentrations in lipoprotein subfractions were measured after preparative ultracentrifugation; plasma apolipoprotein concentrations were measured by electroimmunoassay. Men with high coronary scores tended to have lower plasma high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol concentrations and higher low-density lipoprotein (density 1.019-1.063 g/ml) cholesterol concentrations than subjects of similar age with low coronary scores (p approximately equal to 0.1). The strongest relation, however, was with the cholesterol concentration in the HDL2 subfraction (density 1.063-1.125 g/ml) of HDL, which averaged 44% lower in the severely affected patients (p less than 0.005). No associations were found between the coronary score and HDL3 cholesterol, the cholesterol content of lipoproteins of density less than 1.019 g/ml, plasma triglyceride, or the concentrations of apolipoproteins AI, AII, and E. The high coronary scores associated with low HDL2 concentrations reflected an increase in the number of both partial and complete stenoses distributed throughout the coronary tree. In contrast the sizes of the lesions and the proportion producing complete occlusion were unrelated to HDL2.  相似文献

Photosynthetic carboxylating enzymes and the effects of light and temperature on 14CO2 efflux in two species of gymnosperm leaves were studied. The activity of RuBP carboxylase was high and that of PEP carboxylase was very low when compared to C4 plants. The CO2 compensation point was high. 14CO2 efflux was greater in light than in darkness and the ratio (L/D) increased with increase in temperature and light intensity. The inhibitors of glycolate metabolism showed decreased 14CO2 evolution in light while dark respiration was unaffected. It is concluded that both Cycas circinalis, L. and Cycas beddomei Dyer are C3 plants.  相似文献

Callus cultures were established from the scutellum, scutellar node and radicle region of immature embryos of rye and octoploid triticale on modified Murashige-Skoog basal medium supplemented with various growth regulators. 2, 4-D, 2, 4, 5-T and 2, 4, 5-Cl, POP were found suitable for initiation and maintenance of callus cultures. Cytokinins had no or inhibitory effect on callus induction and growth. On basal medium containing 5 mg/l of 2,4,5-Cl3 POP, 16% of triticale and 17% of rye primary cultures exhibited shoot bud regeneration after 3–4 weeks. Transfer of such cultures to basal medium supplemented with zeatin or zeatin in combination with IAA further promoted shoot elongation and plantlet formation. Plantlets were rooted on basal medium containing 1 mg/l NAA and were eventually transferred to soil. Chlorophyll variants were observed in about 6% of triticale cultures.  相似文献

A procedure for the assay of immobilized tannase with Polyacrylamide gel, collagen and Duolite-S-762 as matrices is described. It is based on the spectrophotometric determination of gallic acid formed by the enzymatic hydrolysis of tannic acid. The kinetic parameters of the enzymatic reaction have been studied and an assay procedure has been formulated. This method appears to be much more accurate than those reported earlier.  相似文献

Lysosome formation was induced in cells of the renal medulla by feeding rats on a K+-deficient diet. The role of the endoplasmic reticulum in the production of acid phosphatase, a typical lysosomal enzyme, was examined. Lysosomal and microsomal fractions were prepared for study by differential centrifugation of homogenates of renal papilla and inner stripe of red medulla. Acid phosphatase activity in the microsomal fraction was distinguished from the activity in the lysosomal fraction in normal tissue by differences in pH optima, tartrate inhibition, distribution of multiple forms after polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis and detergent-sensitivity. During progressive K+ depletion, acid phosphatase activity in both microsomal and lysosomal fractions of the tissue increased 3-fold. In the lysosomes, K+ depletion was associated with the appearance of a new band of acid phosphatase. The neuraminidase-sensitivity of this band on polyacrylamide-gel electrophoresis indicated that the enzyme protein had been modified by the addition of sialic acid residues. K+ depletion also altered the lysosomal enzyme so that thiol compounds were able to stimulate its activity.  相似文献

1. Cell-free extracts of Arthrobacter synephrinum catalyse the oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxy-phenylacetate. 2. The product of oxidation was characterized as 2-hydroxy-5-carboxymethylmuconate semialdehyde from its chemical behaviour as well as from nuclear-magnetic-resonance spectra. 3. A 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetate 2,3-dioxygenase (EC 1.13.11.15) was partially purified from A. synephrinum. 4. The enzyme had a Km of 25 micrometer towards its substrate and exhibited typical Michaelis-Menten kinetics. 5. The enzyme also catalysed the oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxymandelate and 3,4-dihydroxyphenylpropionate, at reaction rates of 0.5 and 0.04 respectively of that for 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetate. 6. The enzyme was sensitive to treatment with thiol-specific reagents. 7. The molecular weight of the enzyme as determined by Sephadex G-200 chromatography was approx. 282000.  相似文献

The sulphogalactosylglycerolipid of rat brain is closely associated with the process of myelination, as demonstrated by the following observations. 1. The lipid is barely detectable in rat brain before 10 days of age, accumulates rapidly between age 10 and 25 days, and remains relatively constant in amount (between 0.3 and 0.4mumol per brain) thereafter into adult life. 2. The activity of adenosine 3'-phosphate 5'-sulphatophosphate-galactosyldiacylglycerol sulphotransferase is almost absent before 10 days of age, attains a maximum at age 20 days, and slowly decreases thereafter with increasing age. This developmental pattern correlates well with that of other myelin-specific metabolites. 3. Both the concentration of the sulphogalactosylglycerolipid and the activity of sulphotransferase are greatly decreased in the non-myelinating jimpy mouse. 4. The myelin fraction of rat brain contains most of the sulphogalactosylglycerolipid. The lipid occurs in a diacyl and an alkylacyl form. Determinations of the relative amount of each type in brain showed about a 1:1 mixture in both 21-day-old and adult rats. Rats injected with H(2) (35)SO(4) at 20 days of age lost (35)S from the diacyl form at a higher rate than from the alkylacyl compound over a 21-day period. These data suggest that the diacyl form has a higher turnover than the alkylacyl derivative. The percentage of the total sulpholipid content of brain contributed by the sulphogalactosylglycerolipid is 16% in 21-day-old rats and 8.4% in adult rats.  相似文献
