Intraperitoneal infection of mice, subcutaneously immunized with acetone vaccines of various antigenic composition, with the microbes of hybrid salmonellae strains of murine and typhoid fever caused development of infectious process approaching natural infection. A significant elevation of the intensity of immunity was provided by preparations containing serologically identical O-antigen in infection with O-strains, or Vi-antigen in infection with Vi-strains. For the formation of animal resistance to infection it was necessary to immunize the mice with vaccines containing homologous H- and O-antigens (in infection with O-strains) and H-, O- and Vi-antigens (in infection with Vi-strains). Immunization with killed vaccines with a full-value antigenic structure provided effective protection of mice from doses approaching LD50. 相似文献

In a three-hour bioassay, we tested the palatability and feeding preferences of Uresiphita maorialis (kōwhai moth) for Sophora tetraptera, Sophora microphylla and Sophora prostrata. Palatability tests showed no differences among the Sophora species. Feeding preferences, on the other hand, showed that S. tetraptera and S. microphylla leaves are preferred over S. prostrata leaves. Our results support our field observations in Wellington city parks and gardens showing that S. tetraptera and S. microphylla plants frequently have higher densities of larvae than S. prostrata. 相似文献

The interactions between E- and Z-isomers of 3-O-methoxyimino-pregn-4-ene-20-one and its 17α-hydroxy derivative and transcortin from human blood were investigated. The substitution of the progesterone 3-oxo group for a 3-O-methoxyimino group was shown to diminish the affinity of the steroid for transcortin by approximately one order of magnitude irrespective of the substituent’s orientation. The data suggests that progesterone derivatives substituted thereby must have higher bioavailability compared to progesterone and must not significantly affect the biodynamics of glucocorticoid in vivo. 相似文献

A convenient and efficient method for three-dimensional immobilizing oligonucleotides on glass was developed using oligonucleotide derivatives bearing a polyamine linker (PA-oligo conjugates). Polyamine (polylysine, poly(lysine, phenylalanine), polyethyleneimine) residues stipulate durable fixation of such conjugates to the glass surface with a high yield (90-95%). Competition of a number of progesterone 16,17-cycloalkane derivatives with 3H-labeled ligands for the binding sites of rat uterine progesterone receptor, uterine pentaranophilin, and blood serum pentaranophilin was studied. We found that the selective ligands for the progesterone receptor are progesterone, 16,17-cyclopropanoprogesterone, and 16,17-cyclopent-3-enoprogesterone and the selective ligands for serum pentaranophilin are 6-methyl-16,17-cyclohexanopregna-1,4-diene-3,20-dione and 3-hydroxy-16,17-cyclohexanopregn-5-en-20-one. No selective ligands for the uterine pentaranophilin were found. The majority of substituents in rings A, B, and D we studied decreased the affinity of ligands for all the three proteins. The substitution of the 5-3-hydroxy grouping for the 4-3-keto grouping exerted the strongest negative effect in the case of the progesterone receptor and the uterine pentaranophilin, whereas the introduction of the 3,4-dimethyl grouping strongly inhibited the ligand affinity for the uterine pentaranophilin. The extent and even the direction of the effect of a substituent on the affinity of ligands for the proteins substantially depended on the presence of other substituents in the steroid molecules. Mechanosensitive channels play an essential role in the regulation of turgor pressure in bacteria. In Escherichia coli, there are multiple mechanosensitive channels that have been characterized genetically: MscL, YggB and KefA. In this report, we describe the cloning of the kefA gene, the organization of the KefA protein and the phenotype of a missense mutation, kefA, which affects the KefA mechanosensitive channel. The altered function of the channel is manifest through increased sensitivity to K+ during growth at low osmolarity and complete inhibition of growth in media containing high K+ concentrations (0.6 M) in the presence of betaine or proline. Growth in high Na+ medium (0.6 M NaCl plus 20 mM K+) is normal. Analysis of the cytoplasmic pools shows that the mutant cannot regulate the K+ content of the cytoplasm when grown in high K+ medium. However, regulation of pools of amino acids is essentially normal and the mutant can accumulate high pools of proline during growth inhibition. The mutant shows increased sensitivity to acid hypo-osmotic shock (transition from neutral to acid pH combined with a reduction in osmolarity). The data are consistent with abnormal regulation of KefA in the presence of high K+ concentrations and either betaine or proline. 相似文献

We have recently found that matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) are targets for T-cell and B-cell reactivity in experimental
arthritis. In the present article, we investigate whether modulation of MMP-specific T-cell responses could influence the
course of adjuvant arthritis (AA). Lewis rats were treated nasally with MMP peptides prior to or after AA induction. Administration
of the MMP-10 or the MMP-16 peptide prior to AA induction reduced the arthritic symptoms. In contrast, administration of the
MMP-10 peptide after AA induction aggravated the arthritic symptoms. The present study shows the possible usefulness of MMP
peptides for immunotherapy. However, a clear understanding of proper timing of peptide administration is crucial for the development

Sodium salt of (20R)-3,4-dihydroxycholest-5-ene-21-yl sulfate and disodium salts of (20R)-4-hydroxycholest-5-ene-3,21-diyl disulfate, (20R)-24-methylcholest-5,24(28)-diene-3,21-diyl disulfate, (20R)-24-methyl-5-cholest-24(28)-ene-3,21-diyl disulfate, (20R)-cholest-5-ene-3,21-diyl disulfate, (20R)-5-cholestane-3,21-diyl disulfate, and (20R)-3-hydroxycholest-5-ene-2,21-diyl disulfate were isolated from the far eastern starfish Diplopteraster multipes and characterized. These compounds differ structurally from sulfated polyhydroxysteroids in other starfish species. At the same time, they are typical secondary metabolites of Ophiuroidea and have some structural features characteristic of the ophiuroid-isolated steroids, namely the 3-hydroxy (or 3-sulfoxy) and 21-sulfoxy groups. These data support the opinion of some taxonomists that starfishes and ophiuroids are phylogeneteically related classes and are closer to each other than to other classes of the Echinodermata phylum. 相似文献
