Petasiger Dietz, 1909 is revised, and a key to and lists of the records and hosts of the 18 recognised species are presented. The recognised species are: P. exaeretus Dietz, 1909, P. australis Johnston & Angel, 1941, P. combesi Zamparo, Overstreet & Brooks, 2005, P. floridus Premvati, 1968, P. grandivesicularis Ishii, 1935, P. islandicus Kostadinova & Skirnisson, 2007, P. johnstoni n. sp., P. megacanthus (Kotlán, 1922), P. minutissimus Gogate, 1934, P. neocomense Fuhrmann, 1927, P. nitidus Linton, 1928, P. novemdecim Lutz, 1928, P. oschmarini Kostadinova & Gibson, 1998, P. phalacrocoracis (Yamaguti, 1939), P. pseudoneocomense Bravo-Hollis, 1969, P. pungens (Linstow, 1894), P. soochowensis Ku, Chiu, Li & Zhu, 1977 and P. variospinosus (Odhner, 1910). Seven of these species are redescribed on the basis of type and newly collected material. P. laricola Ku, Chiu, Li & Zhu, 1977, Echinochasmus fotedari Chishti & Mir, 1989 and P. neocomense of Cankovi?, Kazi? & Milka (1983) are considered synonyms of P. pungens; P. longicirratus Ku, 1938, P. skrjabini Bashkirova, 1941 and P. nitidus of Chen et al. (1985) synonyms of P. neocomense; P. caribbensis Nassi, 1980 a synonym of P. novemdecim; and P. tientsinensis Ku, Chiu, Li & Zhu, 1977 a synonym of P. exaeretus. P. johnstoni n. sp. is described from Tachybaptus ruficollis novaehollandiae in Australia. It is readily distinguished from the most closely-related P. grandivesicularis Ishii, 1935 and P. australis Johnston & Angel, 1941 by the smaller size of the body and angle collar spines and differences in most other metrical characters. Species attributed to Petasiger which are here considered species inquirendae are: P. antigonus Nigam, 1944 sp. inq., P. chandleri Abdel-Malek, 1952 sp. inq., P. jubilarum Elperina in Skrjabin, Petrov & Bashkirova, 1947 sp. inq., P. nicolli Pande, 1939 sp. inq. and P. spasskyi Oshmarin in Skrjabin, Petrov & Bashkirova, 1947 sp. inq.; and Echinoparyphium inopinatum (Baer, 1959) n. comb. is a species previously attributed to Petasiger.  相似文献

Six species of digeneans, including three new host records, are described from the bogue Boops boops off the Spanish NE Atlantic and the Mediterranean coasts. The species involved are: Robphildollfusium martinezgomezi López-Román, Gijón-Botella, Kim & Vilca-Choque, 1992, Magnibursatus caudofilamentosa (Reimer, 1971) Gibson & K?ie, 1991, Lepocreadium album Stossich, 1890, Steringotrema pagelli (van Beneden, 1871) Odhner, 1911, Tetrochetus coryphaenae Yamaguti, 1934 and Stephanostomum euzeti Bartoli & Bray, 2004 (metacercaria). B. boops is a new host for 11 metazoan parasites (six digeneans, three acanthocephalans, one copepod and one isopod) recovered in this study. These are reported and incorporated into a complete checklist of the metazoan parasites of B. boops throughout its distributional range. It comprises summarised information for 67 species in 260 host-parasite records and includes the name of the parasite species, the locality of the host, and the author and date of the published record. The taxonomy is updated and annotations are made on the validity of the records and synonymies.  相似文献

The chaetotaxy of two types of cercariae found in naturally infected Planorbis planorbis in a brackish water lake in Bulgaria is described. The comparison of the sensory patterns shows the distinct species status of the cercariae of P. grandivesicularis and Petasiger sp. The morphology of the cercaria of Petasiger sp. is described and compared with that of known large-tailed Petasiger cercariae from the Palaearctic. It is suggested that the unidentified species of cercaria is probably a larval stage of P. pungens.  相似文献

Metacercariae of two species of Posthodiplostomum Dubois, 1936 (Digenea: Diplostomidae) were subjected to morphological and molecular studies: P. brevicaudatum (von Nordmann, 1832) from Gasterosteus aculeatus (L.) (Gasterosteiformes: Gasterosteidae), Bulgaria (morphology, cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and Perca fluviatilis L. (Perciformes: Percidae), Czech Republic (morphology, cox1, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and 28S); and P. centrarchi Hoffman, 1958 from Lepomis gibbosus (L.) (Perciformes: Centrarchidae), Bulgaria (morphology, cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2) and Slovakia (cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2). In addition, cercariae of P. cuticola (von Nordmann, 1832) from Planorbis planorbis (L.) (Mollusca: Planorbidae), Lithuania (morphology and cox1) and metacercariae of Ornithodiplostomum scardinii (Schulman in Dubinin, 1952) from Scardinius erythrophthalmus (L.) (Cypriniformes: Cyprinidae), Czech Republic, were examined (morphology, cox1, ITS1-5.8S-ITS2 and 28S). These represent the first molecular data for species of Posthodiplostomum and Ornithodiplostomum Dubois, 1936 from the Palaearctic. Phylogenetic analyses based on cox1 and ITS1-5.8S-ITS2, using O. scardinii as the outgroup and including the three newly-sequenced Posthodiplostomum spp. from Europe and eight published unidentified (presumably species-level) lineages of Posthodiplostomum from Canada confirmed the distinct status of the three European species (contrary to the generally accepted opinion that only P. brevicaudatum and P. cuticola occur in the Palaearctic). The subspecies Posthodiplostomum minimum centrarchi Hoffmann, 1958, originally described from North America, is elevated to the species level as Posthodiplostomum centrarchi Hoffman, 1958. The undescribed “Posthodiplostomum sp. 3” of Locke et al. (2010) from centrarchid fishes in Canada has identical sequences with the European isolates of P. centrarchi and is recognised as belonging to the same species. The latter parasite, occurring in the alien pumpkinseed sunfish Lepomis gibbosus in Europe, is also supposed to be alien for this continent. It is speculated that it colonised Europe long ago and is currently widespread (recorded in Bulgaria, Slovakia and Spain); based on the cox1 sequence of an adult digenean isolate from the Ebro Delta, Spain, only the grey heron (Ardea cinerea L.) (Ciconiiformes: Ardeidae) is known to be its definitive host in Europe.  相似文献

Recent molecular phylogenetic studies on fish tapeworms of the genus Caryophyllaeus Gmelin, 1790 (Cestoda: Caryophyllidea), parasites of cyprinid fishes in the Palaearctic Region, have revealed unexpected phenotypic plasticity that seems to be related to definitive hosts. In the present paper, Caryophyllaeus brachycollis Janiszewska, 1953 is redescribed and its two morphotypes are circumscribed on the basis of newly-collected specimens. Morphotype 1 from barbels [Barbus spp. including the type-host Barbus barbus (L.); Barbinae] and chubs (Squalius spp.; Leuciscinae) is characterised by a more robust body with spatulate scolex, which is only slightly wider than a very short neck region, and the anterior position of the testes and vitelline follicles, which begin immediately posterior to the scolex. Specimens of Morphotype 2 from breams (Abramis spp., Ballerus spp. and Blicca spp.; Abraminae), which have been previously misidentifed as Caryophyllaeus laticeps (Pallas, 1781), possess a more slender body with a flabellate scolex, which is much wider than a long neck, and the first testes begin at a considerable distance posterior to the first vitelline follicles. Despite conspicuous differences in the scolex morphology and the anterior extent of the testes and vitelline follicles, both morphotypes are identical in the morphology of the posterior end of the body, in particular that of the cirrus-sac, which is large, thick-walled, elongate-pyriform, and contains a long cirrus, and in the distribution of the vitelline follicles, which surround medially vas deferens near the cirrus-sac. A specimen of Morphotype 1 from B. barbus from the Argens River, France, is designated as neotype of C. brachycollis. The presence of phenotypic plasticity in morphological characteristics previously used for differentiation of species of Caryophyllaeus may confound species identification, which is crucial for biodiversity, ecological and evolutionary studies. To avoid these potential problems, combination of morphological and molecular data is strongly recommended.  相似文献

Selection of a specific microbial partner by the host is an all-important process. It guarantees the persistence of highly specific symbioses throughout host generations. The cuticle of the marine nematode Laxus oneistus is covered by a single phylotype of sulfur-oxidizing bacteria. They are embedded in a layer of host-secreted mucus containing the mannose-binding protein Mermaid. This Ca2+-dependent lectin mediates symbiont aggregation and attachment to the nematode. Here, we show that Stilbonema majum—a symbiotic nematode co-occurring with L. oneistus in shallow water sediment—is covered by bacteria phylogenetically distinct to those covering L. oneistus. Mermaid cDNA analysis revealed extensive protein sequence variability in both the nematode species. We expressed three recombinant Mermaid isoforms, which based on the structural predictions display the most different carbohydrate recognition domains (CRDs). We show that the three CRDs (DNT, DDA and GDA types) possess different affinities for L. oneistus and S. majum symbionts. In particular, the GDA type, exclusively expressed by S. majum, displays highest agglutination activity towards its symbionts and lowest towards its L. oneistus symbionts. Moreover, incubation of L. oneistus in the GDA type does not result in complete symbiont detachment, whereas incubation in the other types does. This indicates that the presence of particular Mermaid isoforms on the nematode surface has a role in the attachment of specific symbionts. This is the first report of the functional role of sequence variability in a microbe-associated molecular patterns receptor in a beneficial association.  相似文献

A comparative morphometric analysis was conducted on two European species of Echinostoma in order to examine the degree of the variability in the metrical characteristics of the adults and to assess their value in discriminating species. Adult E. miyagawai and E. revolutum, obtained experimentally, were compared using univariate and multivariate statistical analyses of 35 and 25 metrical characters, respectively. All subsets of worms of different ages represented homogeneous samples with respect to their morphometric characteristics; however, univariate analyses revealed significant differences in 22 and 23 variables between the corresponding age subsets of the two species, and it was found that the different allometric growth patterns contribute to this. The variables, body width at the posterior border of the ventral sucker, pharynx length and width, ovary length, testes length and width and length of the pre-ovarian region, exhibited isometric or positive allometric growth in E. miyagawai and negative allometry in E. revolutum. A cluster analysis based on 61 specimens and 25 variables separated E. revolutum and E. miyagawai unambiguously, producing an exact ordering of the specimens with respect to their identity and age. A forward stepwise discriminant analysis identified five variables (body width at the posterior border of ventral sucker, head collar width, length of oesophagus, width of ventral sucker and length of the pre-ovarian region) which yielded a 100% accurate classification of the two species. We suggest, therefore, that the morphometric characteristics of the adult worms should be used in studies attempting the identification of species or isolates of Echinostoma spp. More comparative data need to be gathered in order that the species boundaries within the revolutum group be defined more accurately.  相似文献

This paper presents the first documented record of four species of Saturnius Manter, 1969 in Liza haematocheila (Temminck & Schlegel) in its invasive Pontic range. S. papernai Overstreet, 1977, S. dimitrovi Blasco-Costa, Pankov, Gibson, Balbuena, Raga, Sarabeev & Kostadinova, 2006, S. minutus Blasco-Costa, Pankov, Gibson, Balbuena, Raga, Sarabeev & Kostadinova, 2006 and Saturnius sp. are described and compared with existing data by means of multivariate morphometric analysis. The morphological and morphometric similarities between the specimens of Saturnius sp. from L. haematocheila and a small form of S. papernai from L. aurata indicate the possible existence of another, cryptic species. Although having acquired at least three species of Saturnius since its establishment in the Black Sea region, there is no evidence that a Pacific congener has been introduced with this fish. This is the first report of S. minutus from the Black Sea.  相似文献
